#SHOWBIZ: Rozita Rohaizad honoured with Anugerah Seniwati Negara
KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran singer and actress Rozita Rohaizad has been presented with the Anugerah Seniwati Negara 2025 (National Artiste Award 2025) by the Dewan Perniagaan Datuk Dato Malaysia (DPDDM). The daughter of the late screen legend Mariani Ismail expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the association's gesture, describing it as a fitting tribute to all veteran artistes. "Thank you so much, DPDDM. It's my first major award, and I'm genuinely surprised to have received it," Rozita told Harian Metro in an interview yesterday. Rozita, who was attending a graduation ceremony for acting students organised by Cinta Events & Entertainment when she received the accolade, was recognised for her significant contributions to promoting Malaysian music on the global stage. The singer, renowned for her hit song "Bila Ku Merindu", highlighted that the award signifies the deep appreciation many Malaysians have for the sacrifices made by veteran singers and actors, particularly those less familiar to the current generation. "All of us worked tirelessly on our music, dramas, and films without expecting huge rewards. May the current generation of arts enthusiasts remember our dedication and truly value our work," she said.

Kota Kinabalu: The Asean Women's Conference on Best Practices 2025 (AWCoBP 2025) will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on August 16, bringing together participants from five Asean countries to exchange best practices and strengthen regional women's empowerment. President of the Sabah Women's Small and Medium Industry Association (IKSnita) Datuk Dayang Khatijah Datu Bachtiyal, said the event is expected to draw around 500 women from various sectors across Asean. She said the conference will focus on accelerating collective action and closing data gaps through the sharing of experiences, solutions and success stories in areas such as entrepreneurship, leadership and social impact. 'AWCoBP 2025 is the only annual interdisciplinary platform of its kind. We are gathering women from diverse backgrounds to share insights and build holistic solutions to the challenges women face today,' she said. She said this after paying a courtesy call on the wife of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Tuesday. Dayang Khatijah, who was accompanied by Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sabah Rector Associate Professor Dr Rozita Mohammed, said the visit was also to formally invite Toh Puan to officiate the conference. The one-day event will run from 8am to 5pm and include an exhibition, cultural performances, and interactive sessions designed to highlight the achievements and lived experiences of women throughout Asean. 'This is not just another event. It's a key moment to celebrate progress, connect changemakers and reinforce women's agendas at both the state and regional levels,' she said. She said the conference is designed to ensure best practices are shared equitably and strategically and is expected to be one of the most impactful women-focused platforms in the region this year. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? #SHOWBIZ: Aliff Syukri reunited with mother after family rift
KUALA LUMPUR: Cosmetics entrepreneur and singer Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri recently reunited with his mother, Rozita Ibrahim (affectionately known as Bonda), following a period of family tension. In a TikTok post yesterday, he wrote: "Syukri and the other children love Mum forever." Aliff revealed that he had consciously avoided interfering in Rozita's life, particularly after her recent remarriage. "It's been a while since I last saw my mother. Since this issue became heated, I chose to remain silent and stay away. "Moreover, I didn't want to intrude on the new chapter in her life. But fate intervened, and we met at my child's school sports day. Coincidentally, my younger sibling also attends the same school." "I couldn't avoid the encounter, so I embraced it," he said. Aliff added that the meeting with Rozita cleared up any misunderstandings and dispelled the negative speculation from netizens who had suggested a strained relationship. He also expressed his gratitude to those who had offered prayers for his family's well-being. "This reunion has resolved everything, and any lingering emotions have been set aside," Aliff said. "There's no such thing as a perfect family. As children, we often have to be the ones to yield, to exercise patience, and to remain composed." "Praise be to God, this has a happy ending, thank you. I truly appreciate your continued prayers for our family's happiness," he said. The video accompanying the post shows Aliff, accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Shahida, and their children, shaking hands and embracing Rozita. The family's discord had previously surfaced when Rozita's sister-in-law, actress Rebecca Nur Al Islam, criticised Shahida's remarks and labeled her a "stupid" and "foul-mouthed" woman for commenting on her mother-in-law on social media. Following the exchange, Rozita publicly defended Shahida, describing her as the best daughter-in-law and a close confidante. Rebecca later deleted all social media posts related to the matter, following advice from her brother, who is Rozita's husband. Rozita had earlier confirmed her marriage to Khairul in March, after sharing a photo of them together while performing Umrah.

#SHOWBIZ: Rebecca didn't borrow RM1.5mil from me, says Aliff Syukri's mom
KUALA LUMPUR: Entrepreneur and mother of Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri, Rozita Ibrahim, has come forward to provide an explanation regarding allegations that her sister-in-law and actress, Datin Rebecca Nur Al-Islam, borrowed RM1.5 million from her. The explanation was made by Rozita, affectionately known as Bonda, via her Instagram. "I want to intervene to clear up the speculation regarding Rebecca. She did not borrow RM1.5 million. "I had no business dealings with her before or after marrying my husband. "My only business is with my husband involving unfinished work," she wrote. According to Rozita, it was difficult for her to voice out, but she hoped that her explanation would clarify the situation. "I hope that God will show me the path of goodness." "As the head of the family, of course my children and family are an honour that I cherish for as much as I can. "All humans are not exempt from God's tests. Tests are part of life and life also has tests. "No one can escape God's tests, but how do we maintain our piety towards God," she wrote. According to Rozita, no family can run away from problems, but hopes that God will be pleased and give them wisdom. "May God be pleased and give us all wisdom, to learn to continue living a more blessed life. "What is sincere is very heavy, what is heated and chaotic is lust," she wrote again. Earlier, there was speculation that Rebecca had borrowed money from her sister-in-law. However, the actress denied the allegations, even swearing on the names of her late father and mother. Rebecca claimed that the accusations arose after Rozita's family held a live broadcast session and made the issue a form of content. She said she had sought an explanation from her brother and was informed that Rozita had promised to clear the air. The family conflict began to heat up after Rebecca criticised a statement made by Datin Seri Nur Shahida Mohd Rashid, who is also the wife of Aliff, for accusing her of being a crazed publicity-hungry individual.
