East Texas plumbers report uptick in frozen, burst pipes

CANTON, Texas (KETK) – With compounding days of cold weather across East Texas and even some new record lows, local plumbers are feeling the effects and working at their max to respond to all calls. 'It keeps everybody always busy whenever it comes around,' Rub-A-Dub Plumbing technician Jordan Sanchez said. 'Plumber's dread when this time comes around because it usually means long hours.' Sanchez said this week's cold weather has him answering calls all over East Texas. 'Today I saw I had a pipe burst in a gentlemen's bathroom and it flooded the bathroom,' Sanchez said. Rub-A-Dub Plumbing says when temperatures reach the freeze mark or below for more than 24 hours, it can lead to a mess with your pipes. How to prepare for cold weather in East Texas 'When it's over 24 hours of below freezing temperatures, that's when you really have to take precautions,' manager at Rub-A-Dub Plumbing Adrienne McDonald said. People should take precautions such as covering outdoor faucets and opening drawers under sink to let warm air circulate to keep the water from freezing inside. Because they say this is not only keeping them busy but is affecting many East Texans. 'We are very busy and we're trying to get to everybody,' McDonald said. 'Unfortunately, we don't have the manpower to get to everyone as often as quickly as possible. So, I hate that. But you also do what we can to try to save the day for as many people as possible.' People an emergency at home Rub-A-Dub Plumbing said they'll be there to help to keep your pipes in good condition. 'Call us any time,' Sanchez said. Rub-A-Dub's number is 903-350-0412.
