Beware! Ignoring The ‘No Sex' Rule After Turkey Hair Transplant Can Lead To This Risk

The boy from Wales flew to Turkey to get his hair transplant done for free. Medical surgeries often come with some precautions to follow post-treatment. The Turkish hair transplant procedure also has a list of rules that should be avoided for a specific period. However, a 24-year-old influencer has recently ended up breaking one of the rules, resulting in a swollen face. As per Daily Star, Ruben Owen, who recently had his Turkish hair transplant, was advised to avoid any strenuous activities that could lead to sweating. This meant that he could neither sunbathe nor work out or have sex for two weeks. Flouting the 'no sex rule' led to his face blowing up like a balloon. Talking to the daily, he said, 'I wake up and my head's blown up like a balloon—face puffed, scalp tight, and it looked like I'd been stung by 100 bees." The boy from Wales flew to Turkey to get his hair transplant done for free. Reportedly, this was some kind of barter collaboration where Owen had to do clinic modelling in exchange. While the surgery was successful, his mistake during the post-surgery phase led him to one of the biggest troubles as soon as he came back to Wales. 'I didn't quite listen about the sex part," he admitted. Waking up to a swollen face scared Owen, who feared getting an STI. He immediately used Google to see if his symptoms matched with any STI. However, after figuring out what had really happened, he immediately regretted ignoring the doctors' advice. He was relieved after being told that the swelling would go down eventually. 'I looked like something out of a film. It was something else," the influencer added. It took seven days for the swelling to settle down. Ruben decided to get the transplant done at the age of 22, worrying about his receding hairline. He flew out to Turkey in November 2022, which cost him nearly $1,078 (£800) for his round-trip flights. He was back to Wales within a day of the procedure. Turkey has become a popular destination for individuals to get cut-rate cosmetic procedures. The cheap prices might sound attractive to many but may lead to high risks in a few cases if there are complications. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Gwynedd man's head 'blew up like balloon' after 'ignoring hair transplant sex advice'

A Gwynedd social media influencer claims his head swelled "like a balloon" after ignoring advice to abstain from sex following a hair transplant in Turkey. Ruben Owen says he was left frantically searching for STI symptoms online after he chose to ignore the aftercare instructions following his hair restoration surgery. The 24-year-old, from Abersoch, had undergone the procedure in hopes of restoring his thinning hair and was advised against high-intensity activities, including sex, sunbathing, and exercise, to prevent sweating and complications for at least two weeks. However, Ruben's decision to flout the specialist's guidance not to engage in sexual activity resulted in him waking up with a swollen face and a tight scalp. According to online medical advice, activities that raise heart rate and blood pressure can cause freshly healed incisions to reopen, while sweating may aggravate the transplant site and heighten infection risks, reports the Manchester Evening News. The initial panic led Ruben to consider he might have an STI, but he quickly realised it was due to the hair transplant. It took one week for the facial swell to go down, he said. He said: "I wake up and my head's blown up like a balloon - face puffed, scalp tight, and it looked like I'd been stung by 100 bees. No joke, I thought I'd caught something. I was actually googling STI symptoms and panicking. "Turns out it was just my own fault for going too hard too soon - definitely learned my lesson the weird way. The left hand side was bigger than anything to the point it didn't even look like I had been punched - it genuinely looked like my face was going to explode." Ruben says he flew to Turkey on November 2022 at the age of 22 to undertake the popular hair treatment. He said he was having concerns with his hair line and was offered the procedure for free in return for a modelling session for the clinic. In total he spent £800 for the flights to and from Turkey and returned to Wales the day after the procedure was done. Hair transplant surgeons generally recommend abstaining from sexual activity for at least seven days post-procedure. But Ruben claims he decided "not to listen" to his surgeons. He said: "I was doing some modelling work for their social media so I got the deal for a really good price. It all went ok they went through the after care things of what you are not meant to do. "I didn't quite listen about the sex part and because of that my face just went quite enormous. I had sex the night time. Woke up the next day and my head was just absolutely massive. When I woke up I was like 'oh my god what is going on, is it an STI?'. "I was quite panicking to be honest. I went to Google and was worried for a bit." He said his face ballooned on the left side of his head. His normal head size only came back one week after the transplant surgery, he claimed. Ruben said: "I was told there was nothing to worry about too much and that it should go down which it did eventually because I was going to go to A&E. I looked like something out of a film - it was something else." He said he learnt the lesson "the hard way" but it is now motive for a laugh with his friends. He said: "It is one of those stories that still gets brought up, and to me it is too good not to share. This is one of them things that I look back on now and it was really stupid I hadn't listened but it was really funny."

Horny hair transplant patient says his head ‘blew up like a balloon' after ignoring a surprising post-surgery rule: ‘Too hard too soon'

It's a hairy situation. An influencer says his head 'blew up like a balloon' after he violated the 'no-sex rule' after undergoing a hair transplant in Turkey. '[I] woke up the next day and my head was just absolutely massive,' Ruben Owen, 24, told South West News Service about the supersize side effect. Advertisement The cranial complication occurred in 2022 after the Wales-based social media influencer flew to the Anatolian nation at the age of 22 to get his lost locks surgically restored. 3 'I looked like something out of a film — it was something else,' Ruben Owen recalled. Ruben Owen / SWNS The content creator was reportedly concerned with his hairline and was offered the op free of charge provided he did some modelling for the clinic in question. Advertisement Amazed over the seemingly bang-ing deal, Owen flew to Turkey, underwent the procedure and returned to Wales the next day — a pilgrimage that cost him just over $1,000 round trip. All seemed to go swimmingly until the Welshman ignored surgeons' advice to abstain from hanky-panky for seven days post-op. Dome reforestation experts warn that partaking in sexual activities too soon can cause increased blood pressure, reopen incisions, and cause infections, among other complications. 'I didn't quite listen about the sex part,' said Owen, who reportedly made whoopie that very night. Advertisement 3 Owen had been offered the surgery for free in exchange for modeling for the clinic. Ruben Owen / SWNS 3 'I didn't quite listen about the sex part and because of that my face just went quite enormous,' said Owen, whose swelling took a week to recede. Ruben Owen / SWNS Unfortunately, this decision literally blew up in his face as the next morning he awoke with an 'enormous' noggin. 'I wake up and my head's blown up like a balloon — face puffed, scalp tight, and it looked like I'd been stung by 100 bees,' lamented Owen. 'The left-hand side was bigger than anything to the point it didn't even look like I had been punched — it genuinely looked like my face was going to explode.' Advertisement He was initially concerned he had contracted a sexually-transmitted disease, but then realized it was his fault for 'going too hard too soon.' Thankfully, doctors informed him that his puffed noodle was nothing to worry about and that the swelling would go down in about a week, which it thankfully did. Owen said he definitely learned his lesson the 'weird way,' but now sees the funny side of his accidental noggin augmentation. 'It is one of those stories that still gets brought up, and to me it is too good not to share,' he said. 'This is one of them things that I look back on now and it was really stupid I hadn't listened but it was really funny.' Owen emerged relatively unscathed compared to other horror stories out of Turkey, which has become a mecca for those looking to go under the knife on the cheap. Last month, influencer Ana Bárbara Buhr Buldrini, 31, died after undergoing several cosmetic procedures, including breast augmentation and liposuction at a hospital in Istanbul. She had reportedly signed up for the surgeries in return for promoting the facility on her social media.
