Aspiring Eagle Scout renovates Midstate Veterans Park

(WHTM) — Dozens lined up the streets surrounding Boiling Springs Veterans Park in Cumberland County Sunday for their annual Memorial Day parade. In the parade there were Veterans, emergency vehicles, and performances by local school marching bands. 'It's just a lot of work and you got to push through,' said Bennett Rudge, a middle school drummer. Memorial service held at Fort Indiantown Gap What's a lot of work for Rudge isn't necessarily the school, but his Eagle Scout project. 'Eagle is the highest rank in scouts, and it gives me a patch and it's also the highest honor,' he explained. 'So, after I finish the paperwork, I'll get to go do a special ceremony, Eagle ceremony.' Rudge told abc27 News he started his project about a year ago. 'Well, first I had to install lights and painted and sand down the gun [statue],' he said. 'And then I made a sign over there that we've installed just like a few days ago.' He had no shortage of help either. 'Really a community effort of all sorts of different people,' said his dad, Brian Rudge. 'Maybe 10 or 12 scouts, sisters and brothers, cousins, neighbors. He really didn't want to screw things up, you know, as far as, like, some of the little historical markings and things. So, trying to find the right people, even some he one of the days there were some people called in sick and some of the neighbors just rallied together and like, hey, can anyone come help out?' It's been a busy year for Rudge – and his helpers – balancing this project with school and other activities. His dad – who was also an Eagle Scout, says he is proud of his son. But this is a special moment where he could just put some of the skills and energy and excitement that he has into something that can benefit the community.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Herefordshire complete double for week in NCCA Trophy

HEREFORDSHIRE rounded off an excellent week by securing an East-of-England double with a 35-run win over Suffolk in the NCCA Trophy 50-over competition. Earlier in the week, Herefordshire had beaten Suffolk's near neighbours Norfolk by five wickets at Brockhampton. As in the win against Norfolk, Herefordshire owed much to Ollie Walker who again top-scored with 66 as well as picking up a couple of wickets, one with a stupendous reaction caught-and-bowled. But this was far from a one-man show as every member of the Herefordshire side contributed significantly to a memorable victory over a team which had won its previous two group matches. Herefordshire, however, had made far from an exemplary start, slipping to 47-3 in the early stages despite a lively 30 from opener Sinel Gunarathne. Walker then came in at number five and, with the help of a composed 28 from Alex Hinkley, took the score to 123 before the fourth wicket fell. Luke Tulacz then dominated a fifth-wicket stand of 60 with Walker, contributing 42 off just 30 balls with eight fours and a six. A third Herefordshire-born player, Ollie Langford was next to play his part with 21 off 20 balls, including two fours and a six, on his debut. Although both Walker and Langford were dismissed with the score at 213, that was far from the end of the fireworks as Luke Powell, 17 off 17 balls, and James Rudge helped the scoreboard rattle along. Rudge was last out after smashing 57 off 28 balls with six fours and four sixes as Herefordshire posted a formidable 292. Suffolk started briskly with 60 on the board before the first wicket fell in the ninth over. But Herefordshire's spinners Imaad Mahmood (3-46) and skipper Matt Pardoe (4-55) kept things tight as well as picking up wickets regularly. And with Walker (2-47) and Rudge (1-46) also collecting victims, Herefordshire dismissed the home side for 257with just over four overs to spare. Herefordshire will now have a weekend off before turning their attention to the NCCA T20 competition. Wiltshire are the visitors to Eastnor CC on Sunday, May 25, for a double match, with the first starting at 11am. Next month Herefordshire travel to Dorset in the same competition before welcoming Devon to Eastnor on June 29.

Walker hits unbeaten century to seal Herefordshire win

Ollie Walker strokes one of 13 boundaries in his impressive centuries (Image: Submitted) OLLIE Walker's brilliant unbeaten 108 steered Herefordshire to their first NCCA Trophy 50 over competition success of the season with a five-wicket victory against Norfolk at Brockhampton. Walker combined some of his trademark savage hitting with some graceful strokeplay and solid defence to hit five sixes and eight fours in his 97-ball innings. Walker's innings completed an excellent day as he had returned 4-52 with the ball in Norfolk's innings. Luke Tulacz hit a better than run-a-ball 29 in a fifth wicket stand of 65 with Walker. Meanwhile, Alex Hinkley was then an excellent foil for Walker as he compiled an unbeaten 40 in an unbroken county record sixth-wicket stand of 107 for the sixth wicket. After Norfolk won the toss and elected to bat first, Benjamin Wilcox (59) and Alfie Cooper (55) posting half-centuries for the visitors, who posted a useful total. But Taylor Cornall (2-45) and Imaad Mahmood (1-36) also took wickets as Herefordshire restricted their target to 247. Although Herefordshire lost Ollie Cox early in their reply, Cornall (40), skipper Matt Pardoe (12) and Ben Chapman-Lilley (10) took the Herefordshire total to 76-4 before Walker, Tulacz and Hinley completed the run chase. Earlier in the weekend Herefordshire went down by 60 runs to Staffordshire at West Bromwich Dartmouth in the NCCA Trophy 50-over competition. But the defeat would have been far more comprehensive but for one of James Rudge's sparkling cameos which saw the all-rounder batter six sixes and four fours in a 38-ball 62. Rudge was joined in a record-breaking last-wicket stand of 68 with Adam Hines who largely watched from the non-striker's end but also contributed an unbeaten four. The previous record of 59, set by Nick Davies and Paul Humphries against Shropshire at Luctonians, had stood for 24 years since 2001. Rudge's all-round efforts bookended the day as he picked up the first two Staffordshire wickets, bowling open Callum Hawkins and having Liam Banks caught behind by Luke Powell, after Herefordshire had won the toss and elected to bowl first. But Staffordshire's strong middle order, led by skipper James Kettleborough (105), continued to rack up the runs. The home side looked set for a very big score when they reached 227-4, but some fine spin bowling by Taylor Cornall (5-39), aided by a spectacular one-stump-to-aim-at run out by Ben Chapman-Lilley to remove the dangerous Matthew Morris for 49, helped to dismiss the hosts for 275. Cornall (24) and Ollie Cox (21) scored quickly when Herefordshire got their reply under way. With Chapman-Lilley (42) and Ollie Walker (27) well entrenched, Herefordshire reached the halfway mark in their innings past the 100-mark, with only three wickets down were and well in touch with the target. But both were dismissed in quick succession and wickets tumbled to leave Herefordshire languishing on 147-9 before Rudge's late fireworks. Herefordshire now head for Sudbury on Sunday to take on Suffolk in their final group game, but are unlikely to progress to the knockout stages.

Newport drug dealer had Rolex watch and Armani shoes

Kane Rudge, 28, from Newport was enjoying a 'lavish lifestyle' on the back of selling cocaine and cannabis across South Wales. He was caught when police linked him to a drugs line, prosecutor Rose Glanville said. Newport Crown Court heard how the defendant was seen on CCTV topping up one of the phones used by drug dealers. Detectives also gathered Snapchat evidence of his involvement in sending out text bombs to potential customers and discussing business with fellow criminals. When police raided his home on Yewberry Lane two months ago, they found 25g of cocaine worth around £2,500 on the street. Also seized was 137.5g of cannabis valued at £1,710 and nearly £6,000 cash. The Armani shoes he had were worth £650 and the Dior trainers £645. Rudge pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine, possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession with intent to supply cannabis and possession of criminal property. The offences occurred between September 12, 2024 and March 14. Rudge has previous convictions for robbery and possession with intent to supply cannabis for which he has served jail time. Clare Wilks representing him said in mitigation: 'This was unsophisticated offending. 'The defendant has struggled with heavy use of cannabis over a number of years. 'He was spending £100 a day on cannabis alone at one point and was using cocaine on a recreational basis.' She said he was drug-free since being remanded in custody. Judge Carl Harrison told Rudge: 'You were plainly enjoying a lavish lifestyle. 'These offences are aggravated by your previous convictions which have now escalated from dealing class B drugs to supplying those at class A.' The defendant was jailed for four years and told he would serve half of that sentence before being released from custody on licence. He is set to face a proceeds of crime hearing later this year on August 28.
