Mysuru MP seeks indigenous sports academies in Mysuru, Kodagu

MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has urged the Union government to establish dedicated sports academies for indigenous games in the Mysuru-Kodagu region of Karnataka, highlighting the need to preserve and promote traditional sporting practices. Raising the matter under Rule 377 in Parliament, Mr. Yaduveer said Mysuru and Kodagu have a rich sporting heritage ranging from Vajra Musti wrestling and Mallakhamba in Mysuru to the globally renowned hockey tradition of Kodagu, along with Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, and yoga-based fitness disciplines that are deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of the region. 'These sports are not only part of our history but also integral to our identity and community life,' he added. He pointed out that the absence of structured training facilities, scientific coaching, and dedicated infrastructure to these indigenous sports has led to a steady decline in youth participation. Establishing specialised sports academies with modern infrastructure, trained coaches, and talent identification programmes, he said, would help revive these traditions, nurture local talent, and prepare athletes for national and international competitions. 'I urge the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to immediately sanction and establish regional sports academies in Mysore and Kodagu dedicated to indigenous games, integrating them into the Khelo India framework and ensuring sustained funding and promotion,' Mr. Yaduveer appealed.

State poised to lead India's quantum technology push: Raichur MP

Bengaluru: Karnataka is ready to play a leading role in shaping India's quantum technology land-scape, Raichur MP G. Kumar Naik told the Lok Sabha on Monday while welcoming the Centre's decision to invest in the National Quantum Mission (NQM). Speaking under Rule 377, Naik stressed the need for better coordination, a clear im-plementation roadmap, and cooperative federalism to ensure that the mission delivers measurable outcomes. Drawing lessons from India's semiconductor programme, he warned against the risk of ambitious projects stalling despite large budget allocations. Naik highlighted Karnataka's early strides in the sector, including the announcement of a Rs1,000-crore Quantum Fund — the first of its kind in the country — and a compre-hensive vision for quantum technology development under Chief Minister Siddara-maiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He credited State Science and Technology Minister N.S. Boseraju for conceptualising and executing the inaugural Quantum India Summit 2025 in Bengaluru, which brought together Nobel Laureates, global experts, industry leaders, and researchers. Key state initiatives include a dedicated Quantum Research Park and Q-City, Fabline, quantum coursework in over 20 colleges, and a strong startup ecosystem. Karnataka produces more than 91,000 quantum-relevant graduates annually, second only to the EU, Naik said. Boseraju added that the success of the national mission depends on the State and Centre working 'hand-in-hand' with shared vision, strategic coordination, and sus-tained investment in talent and infrastructure.

State withholding Ayushman Bharat for Over-70s, says MP

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta on Monday told the Lok Sabha that Karnataka's refusal to fund its share of the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has left senior citizens in the state without free healthcare. Speaking under Rule 377, Chowta said the scheme, launched last year by the Narendra Modi government, provides citizens aged 70 and above with cashless hospital treatment up toRs5 lakh annually. 'The Karnataka government's refusal to contribute 40% of the cost has effectively stalled its rollout in the state, depriving lakhs of elderly people of critical, life-saving care,' he said. In the Mangaluru region alone, Chowta noted, about 80,000 senior citizens are unable to access the benefit. He urged the Union government to act swiftly to protect the health rights of Karnataka's elderly and ensure that the state implements the popular scheme in full.

MP report card: Oppn stalling House proceedings as they don't have any issue to raise: Jugal Kishore Sharma

Serving third consecutive term as BJP MP from Jammu Lok Sabha constituency, 62-year-old Jugal Kishore Sharma had defeated Congress candidate and former minister, Raman Bhalla. Serving third consecutive term as BJP MP from Jammu Lok Sabha constituency, 62-year-old Jugal Kishore Sharma had defeated Congress candidate and former minister, Raman the 18th Lok Sabha completed its first year, here's a look at the MP's performance in the lower house of the Parliament and his plans for his constituency. (Sourced) Sharma polled 6,87,588 votes with a vote share of 52.8% against Bhalla's 5,52,090 votes with a vote share of 42.4%. In 2014, the BJP leader had defeated Madan Lal Sharma, a two-time Congress MP, by nearly 2.57 lakh votes. As the 18th Lok Sabha completed its first year, here's a look at the MP's performance in the lower house of the Parliament and his plans for his constituency. How would you describe your first-year experience? So far, very satisfying. Being an elected representative, I get a chance to serve my people. Not everyone gets the opportunity to serve society. I am trying to live up to the expectations of my people. What was the high point of the year for you personally and your party in the House? We succeeded in getting big projects for Jammu. We got the national highway project and are now trying to get it completed on time. Making the Samba-Mansar-Kishanpur Manwal-Udhampur road a four-lane highway was a long-pending demand of the people. We have succeeded in it and a DPR is being prepared. Similarly, Jammu railway station is being redeveloped from three platforms to eight. Though seven platforms in total were approved, we are discussing the eighth also. The work is on to make it an ultra modern railway station equipped with latest technologies like escalators, lifts, waiting halls, electronic stairs, and overhead bridges. There shall be two entries to the station from Trikuta Nagar side and from the Narwal side. Soon work on the modal station at Katra will be set in motion. The delay is happening because of a file stuck with the state secretariat. An agreement has to be made between National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) and the UT government. Are you satisfied with the number of sittings of the Lok Sabha? Not at all because of the unnecessary and frequent disruptions by the Opposition, especially Congress. They are stalling the proceedings of the Parliament because they don't have any issue. We hope Congress realises the futility of disruptions they cause over special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls because the issue pertains to the election commission. Due to the disruptions, MPs are not able to raise the issues of the people. What is the most effective way to raise issues of public importance in the House? We have been given the authority under Rule 377 and Zero Hour where we can draw immediate attention of the House and the government to the issues of people ensuring that their concerns are addressed timely. What constituency-specific issues were raised by you and what are your plans ahead? I am extremely happy that the Vande Bharat train now runs between Katra and Srinagar. It was a historic milestone and a big achievement for the people of J&K. Though Vande Bharat presently shuttles between Katra and Srinagar, by the end of September it will start operating from Jammu to Srinagar. I am also striving to ensure maximum benefits of central schemes to the people of border areas.

Capt. Chowta wants Karnataka government to be part of Ayushman Bharat

Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MP for Dakshina Kannada, on Monday raised the issue of denial of Ayushman Bharat Yojana healthcare benefits to senior citizens in the age group of 70-plus in Karnataka, in the Lok Sabha. Raising the issue under Rule 377, Capt. Chowta highlighted that the Karnataka government has refused to contribute its 40% share under the scheme. This decision has left lakhs of elderly citizens without access to healthcare facilities, many of whom depend on the scheme for life-saving treatment. Mangaluru has a senior citizen population of around 80,000 belonging to the 70-plus category who are currently missing out on the insurance cover of ₹5 lakh per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation under the scheme, he said. Capt. Chowta said the move runs contrary to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched Ayushman Bharat to ensure universal health coverage and financial protection for the most vulnerable sections of society. He urged the Union government to take immediate steps to safeguard the healthcare rights of Karnataka's senior citizens and to direct the State government to fulfil its obligations under the initiative.
