Video emerges of drunken man being kicked out of MCG after confronting Seven Network and SEN radio's Andy Maher
Video has emerged of a drunken spectator being kicked out of the MCG after confronting TV and radio personality Andy Maher on Saturday.
The co-host of Seven Network's The Front Bar and SEN radio's Run Home was watching the Carlton Blues defeat the Melbourne Demons from the MCC members section when a visibly intoxicated man stumbled up the stairs to speak to him.
Little can be heard of what was said as the man stood over a visibly annoyed Maher while a blonde female appears to encourage the unknown male to return to his seat.
While the majority of nearby fans can be heard calling for security to 'get him out', at least one bystander appears to encourage the drunken man to 'lay in to him'.
The two-minute-long video shows MCG security personnel come down to intervene in the confrontation.
One security guard was quick to position himself between Maher and the unknown spectator.
The security personnel appeared to encourage the man to leave while Maher, who was attending the game with his three daughters, attempts to continue watching the game.
After unsuccessfully convincing the man to leave of his own accord, security can be seen physically removing the man.
Seemingly confused with what has occurred, the man can be heard saying 'this is unbelievable'.
Maher told the Herald Sun he hadn't had any interaction with the man until he came and stood over him.
'It was the last three minutes of the game and I noticed there were two blokes who were pretty pissed,' Maher said.
He said he heard another media personality, comedian Dave Hughes, tell the pair they had 'crossed a line' with what they had said and they should 'take it back' and apologise.
'Then this bloke looked up at me and saw me sitting there and I said, 'Mate, just shoosh'. That was it,' he said.
'Then he came over to me and said, 'Andrew Maher, I know you. You will listen to me'. He was pissed and wouldn't sit down so then he got chucked out.'
Maher said he was trying to make sure his family were OK during the confrontation, stating they were a 'bit freaked out' by what had occurred.
He said this incident wasn't the first time drunken fans had been an issue when he attended the footy with his family.
He said it was however 'troubling' that it occurred in the MCC members – a section known for its strict dress code that requires men to wear collared shirts, bans woman wearing 'revealing tops' and footwear ranging from thongs to gumboots.
