New UPI guidelines related to pre-sanctioned credit lines to come into force from Aug 31 onwards
If you are a frequent user of UPI, it is recommended to stay abreast of the changes made in the digital payment ecosystem. NPCI, which runs UPI, issued a circular dated July 10 introducing some new guidelines with regards to pre-sanctioned credit lines. Before that, let us first understand some background. In September 2023, NPCI issued a circular allowing the pre-sanctioned credit lines to be enabled on UPI (Unified Payments Interface). Earlier only savings accounts, overdraft accounts, prepaid wallets and Rupay credit cards could be linked. But later, the scope of UPI was broadened to include credit lines as a funding account as well. Under that facility, payments made through a pre-sanctioned credit line issued by a scheduled commercial bank to individuals with prior consent of the individual customer are enabled for transactions using the UPI system. Now the latest circular dated July 10, 2025 has incorporated more changes to the earlier facility. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said in the circular that the customer experience to be made consistent across interest bearing credit lines and end use of such pre-sanctioned credit lines being linked to UPI will be aligned with the purpose for which loan was granted. I. Issuers will stipulate terms and conditions of use of such credit lines. The issuer will also ensure compliance of use of such credit lines. The issuer will also ensure compliance with extant regulatory guidelines, Bank policy, legal requirements, and the defined purpose of such interest bearing credit line offering. II. Issuer will approve or decline transactions initiated via UPI as per extant regulatory guidelines, and defined purpose of the credit. III. All UPI member banks, sub members, PSPs (payment service providers) and the third party app providers will enable additional MCCs for transactions through interest bearing account types. The circular signed by Kunal Kalawatia, chief of products, NPCI, reads that all UPI member banks, sub members, PSPs, credit line issuers and third party app providers are instructed to implement these changes before Aug 31, 2025. Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card: Earn 3% cashback on UPI—Is it worth it?
UPI transactions make life easy as they are cashless, quick, and convenient. What if you can get 3% cashback on these UPI transactions? It will be the icing on the cake, right? The Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card offers 3% cashback on UPI transactions. Let us look at the features and benefits of this credit card and whether it is a good card to have. The Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card is a co-branded credit card from Axis Bank and supermoney from Flipkart. The credit card is offered on the Rupay platform and can be used for UPI transactions. The Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card offers 3% cashback on QR transactions done on/through the supermoney platform. So, if you are someone who uses UPI a lot, this card can help you save some money through cashbacks. All other qualifying spends are eligible for a 1% cashback. The total cashback that can be earned in a monthly statement cycle is capped at Rs. 500. So, if a cardholder does all eligible scan and pay UPI transactions, on spending Rs. 16,667, the maximum cashback of Rs. 500 will be reached. The other benefits of the card include: Fuel surcharge waiver Exclusive cashback offers on merchants like Ola, Myntra, MakeMyTrip, etc. The Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card does not provide any reward points for any transaction. The cashback earned in a monthly billing cycle will be credited in the next billing cycle, 3 days prior to the statement generation date. For example, suppose the statement generation date is the 15th of the month. So, the cashback earned for the May billing cycle will be credited on 12th June. The cashback will be calculated based on the spends done during the statement period minus any returns or refunds during the same period. If the purchase or transaction is returned, cancelled, or reversed post the statement generation date, the cashback toward such transactions will be debited on the date of such purchase or transaction reversal. In the case of conversion of a transaction to EMI at a later date, cashback earned on such a transaction will be reversed during the same billing cycle as EMI conversion. The spends on the following categories will not earn any cashback: Repayments Fuel transactions Jewellery Cash withdrawal Wallet loading Insurance premium payments Education-related payments Government services Rental transactions EMI transactions Purchases converted to EMI post facto The Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card is a lifetime free credit card. There is no joining fee or annual renewal fee. The primary purpose of this credit card is for UPI transactions. However, the customer will get the physical card free, which can be used for other offline transactions to earn 1% cashback. There are some credit cards that offer up to 2% cashback on UPI transactions. The Yes Bank Klick Rupay Credit Card offers up to 5% cashback. The cashback is applicable for cardmembers who have the Kiwi Neon membership (annual fee Rs. 999 + Taxes). The cashback starts from 2% for UPI scan and pay transactions done through the Kiwi App. On achieving various spend-based milestones, the cashback increases as follows: 3% cashback on eligible spends of Rs. 50,000 + 1 domestic airport lounge access 4% cashback on eligible spends of Rs. 1,00,000 + 1 domestic airport lounge access 5% cashback on eligible spends of Rs. 1,50,000 + 1 domestic airport lounge access All the above milestone spends must be done in the Kiwi Neon annual membership period to earn up to 5% cashback. So, the Yes Bank Klick Rupay Credit Card provides up to 5% cashback on UPI transactions, which is better than the 3% cashback provided by the Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card. However, it involves the Kiwi Neon annual membership fee of Rs. 999 + Taxes. Also, the cashback starts at 2% and increases as the cardmember achieves the various spend-based milestones. On the other hand, the Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card does not involve any fees as it is lifetime free. Also, the card provides a flat 3% cashback on all eligible transactions without any spend-based milestones. Do you do a lot of UPI transactions to pay various merchants for purchase of various goods or to avail various services? If yes, you may consider the Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card. UPI transactions usually don't give any benefits, except under some limited-time offers or credit cards. So, if the Axis Bank Supermoney Rupay Credit Card is giving a 3% cashback on UPI transactions, it is a big benefit. Also, the cashback benefit comes without any additional costs as the credit card is lifetime free. Gopal Gidwani is a freelance personal finance content writer with 15+ years of experience. Stone temple, first IIT overseas campus: 4 recent milestones for Indian community in UAE
With nearly 4 million members, the Indian community forms the largest expatriate population in the UAE. Hailing from diverse backgrounds and cultures, the people of the subcontinent have left a mark on UAE – from areas like business and education, to food and music. As India celebrates its 76th Republic Day today, here is a look at some of the firsts for the Indian community, UAE, and the broader region over the last year. Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. Rupay In February 2024, UAE saw the launch of a new domestic payment card called Jaywan. In a collaboration across borders, the card was built on India's digital RuPay credit and debit card stack. During the launch, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented President Sheikh Mohamed with a personalised card, who then used it to make a transaction. With all UAE residents expected to have a Jaywan card in two years for the domestic market, co-badged cards would also be issued, in partnership with Mastercard and Visa to meet travellers' needs for foreign markets. UAE cards can also be used in India, while RuPay cards issued in India can be used in the Emirates. These transactions will also be carried out in the local currency. Middle East's first stone temple In early 2024, Abu Dhabi saw the construction of the BAPS Hindu Mandir, the emirate's only Hindu temple. The intricately-carved traditional structure is also Middle East's first stone temple. The plot of land for the temple was allocated by President Sheikh Mohamed, who also selected the traditional plan, saying: "If you're building a temple, it should look like a temple", according to Brahmaviharidas Swami, who headed the iconic project. The temple was hand-carved in thousands of pink sandstone and white marble, according to the ancient Hindu 'Shilpa shastras' – Sanskrit scriptures of architecture and sculpture. With no entry fee, the temple is open to people of all religions and faiths. The temple is open six days a week from 9am to 8pm and will remain closed for visitors on Monday. Visitors need to register through the official website to gain entry. First visit of Indian Prime Minister after 34 years After over 3 decades, an Indian Prime Minister set foot onto UAE soil when Narendra Modi visited the Emirates in 2015, 34 years after Indira Gandhi's visit in 1981. In an earlier interview with Khaleej Times, the leader said that the prolonged gap in visits to UAE was unintentional, and hailed the "deep historical links and unmatched level of familiarity" between the two countries. Modi described the UAE as a 'Mini-India' and "a paradise built up in a desert with unmatched vision and remarkable skill." The Indian leader was received by Sheikh Mohamed, who was then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. Since that first visit in 2015, Modi has been to the Emirates multiple times and forged deep bonds with the UAE President, who he often fondly refers to as his "brother". First overseas campus The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Delhi) opened the doors to its first international campus in September 2024. Located in Abu Dhabi, the IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi campus offered two bachelor's programmes – B. Tech. in computer science and engineering, and B. Tech. in energy engineering for the academic year 2024-2025. The institute is open to Indians residing in the UAE, Emiratis, and international students, based on entrance examinations. The inauguration of the campus was attended by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. In October 2024, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that the first overseas campus of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) is expected to open in Dubai in early 2025. The campus will function from the India Pavilion at the Expo City in Dubai, offering short and medium-term training programmes as well as research opportunities.
