Bangladeshi model arrested in Kolkata with fake Aadhar, other Indian documents
Based on specific input, the anti-rowdy squad of Kolkata Police arrested a Bangladeshi woman for illegally residing in India. The accused has been identified as Shanta Pal (28), a resident of Barisal in Bangladesh. She was arrested from her rented apartment in the Jadavpur area. An Aadhaar card, voter card and a ration card have also been recovered from her.'Based on a specific complaint, we registered this case and during the course of the investigation we have arrested a woman who is a Bangladeshi citizen. She is in police custody now. Investigation is underway,' said Rupesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Kolkata Police to India to the police, during the prolonged search at her rented place, several Bangladeshi passports issued in her name, an employee card of Regent Airways (Bangladesh), an admit card of secondary education in Dhaka, two Aadhar cards registered in different addresses, an Indian voter/Epic card and Ration card, all of different addresses were found and seized. According to police, the woman rented the house in late 2024 along with a woman was produced before a city court on Wednesday and has been sent to police custody till August the interrogation, Shanta Paul could not give any satisfactory answer to the police, following which she was arrested. She couldn't produce any valid visa for her stay in India and is presently being questioned about how she managed to get hold of the Aadhaar, Voter and Ration cards. Out of the two Aadhaar cards recovered from her possession, one has a Kolkata address while the other has a Burdwan police are currently communicating with the UIDAI to enquire how an Aadhaar card was approved her. The detectives are also communicating with the National Election Commission and the Food Department of West Bengal to enquire about how she got the voter card and the ration to sources, the accused worked as an actress in Bangladesh. She also worked as an anchor on several TV channels and shows in Bangladesh and reportedly participated in multiple beauty contests there.- Ends

3-hr search at school after bomb hoax
Kolkata: An email threatening that bombs were planted at a reputable south Kolkata English medium girls' school on Thursday morning led cops to rush to the school to carry out searches. The threat was declared a hoax after the search, which lasted over three hours. The police team, comprising the bomb squad of the detective department and the Shakespeare Sarani Police, claimed they did not carry out any evacuation to avoid panic. "We went from class to class and completed the necessary search," said a police officer. Both the Kolkata Police Special Task Force and the detective department began an investigation into the origin of the email. Joint CP (Crime & Traffic) Rupesh Kumar confirmed the threat mail but refused to share the police response to the same. The principal of the school said: "I got an email at 6 am and informed my seniors. They asked me to inform Shakespeare Sarani PS. The police came immediately, and the bomb squad was there along with sniffer dogs. They did a thorough combing exercise, and everything was over by 1 pm. Nothing was found, and no classes got disrupted."

Day after clashes on Kolkata outskirts: 40 arrested, 7 FIRs registered
At least 40 people have been arrested and seven FIRs have been registered within 24 hours of the clashes that broke out in the Rabindranagar area of Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district, and soon spread to the adjacent Nadiyal area in Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon. Five policemen, including a woman cop, were injured in the clashes that broke out over a dispute regarding the spot of a Muslim fruit vendor's cart and the planting of a Tulsi plant near a temple in the Rabindranagar area. While 28 people were arrested by police in South 24 Parganas district, 12 were arrested by the Kolkata Police. DIG (Presidency Range) Akash Magharia said, 'So far, three cases have been filed and 28 people arrested by the West Bengal Police.' Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime, Kolkata) Rupesh Kumar said: 'A total of four FIRs have been registered at the Nadiyal police station based on complaints from police personnel. Twelve people were arrested by the Kolkata Police last (Wednesday) night.' The West Bengal Police, in a statement on X, confirmed the coordinated action, saying, 'None of those who have indulged in violence will be spared.' 'The situation is now peaceful and under control. Prohibitory orders under 163 BNSS have been imposed in the Rabindranagar PS area in the interest of peace. Representatives of all political parties or groups are advised not to visit the area till 163 BNSS is in place,' it said. The authorities have also appealed for calm and urged citizens to refrain from spreading misinformation on social media. 'Those attempting to incite unrest will be dealt with strictly, in accordance with the law,' the police said. Earlier in the day, police stopped state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar from going to Maheshtala. Majumdar then went to Kalighat to protest outside Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence along with supporters. He was detained, and later released. Sweety Kumari Police on Thursday said they have seized explosives in Budge Budge area, near Rabindranagar where clashes took place a day ago. Police said they arrested five people while they were carrying materials used in bomb-making and are investigating whether it was linked to the clash. Superintendent of Police (Diamond Harbour) Rahul Goswami said: 'Around 8:45 pm yesterday (Wednesday), acting on intelligence inputs, the police intercepted three bikes and recovered a large cache of explosive materials. These included substantial quantities of sodium powder, over 10 kg of aluminium powder, phosphorus dust, red sulphur, and iron dust — all used in making crude bombs.' 'Five arrests have been made in connection with the seizure', the SP said, adding one of them — Nabin Chandra Roy — has admitted, during the questioning, that he is an active RSS and BJP worker. 'On the day of Ram Navami, he was seen at the Bata More, where a verbal altercation occurred over the rally route and barricades. 7 cases filed, 40 arrested after clashes on outskirts of Kolkata
A total of seven cases have been registered and 40 individuals arrested in 24 hours after violent clashes broke out in the Rabindranagar area of South 24 Parganas district and the adjacent Nadiyal area. The unrest broke out on Tuesday afternoon over a dispute regarding the location of a shop and the planting of a Tulsi plant. Protesters hurled bricks at police personnel, and isolated incidents of vandalism were reported. Police resorted to force to disperse the crowd. DIG Presidency Range Akash Magharia said, 'So far, three cases have been filed and 28 individuals arrested by the West Bengal Police,' while Kolkata Police also took action in the Nadiyal area. Joint CP (Crime) Rupesh Kumar stated: 'A total of four cases have been registered at Nadiyal police station based on complaints from police personnel. Twelve individuals were arrested by Kolkata Police last night.' 'At around 8:45 pm yesterday, acting on intelligence inputs, the police intercepted three bikes and recovered a large cache of explosive materials.
