New cheese plant in Boherbue marks €15m investment in rural Cork

The new plant is owned by Ingredient Solutions Ltd., one of Ireland's leading cheese solution providers, and sits on a 7-acre site in Boherbue, close to the company's existing plant. Founded in 2000, the company now exports to over 40 countries. Around four times larger than the current site and with five production lines, the new plant will enable the company to scale from 12,000 to 27,000 tonnes of produce annually, with future expansion potential to 35,000 tonnes, according to Managing Director Gary Davies. With the company currently employing around 100 people, Davies predicted that number will rise by around 50 workers over the next eight to ten years. 'We've built this facility not just to meet today's needs, but to secure our ability to innovate and grow in the years ahead,' he said. Speaking at the opening, Davies said: 'It's a proud day for our staff, our community, and for Ian Galletly, our founder, whose vision brought Ingredient Solutions to life 25 years ago. This facility is the result of his dream—backed by Rupp, AIB, and Enterprise Ireland—and designed to grow with us into the future.' The ribbon-cutting event was attended by government representatives, industry leaders, and local stakeholders, including John Broekmans, CEO of Rupp (Ingredient Solutions' Austrian-based parent company); Cllr Joe Carroll, Lord Mayor of Cork; Cork North-West TD Michael Moynihan, and Cllr Bernard Moynihan, while Fr. Jim Kennelly blessed the facility. The Rupp CEO highlighted the company's long-term commitment to the locality: 'This factory is more than bricks and stainless steel. It's a promise—to our employees, our customers, and to Boherbue. We are here for the long term. Together, we are building not just cheese, but a future.' Broekmans acknowledged the deep ties between Rupp and Ingredient Solutions since the 2022 acquisition, calling the new facility 'a continuation of the legacy we've built together. This moment represents not just a new chapter for our company, but it's also a renewed commitment to the community that has stood by us for twenty-five years." Cllr Moynihan spoke about the long journey to the opening of the new plant, recalling early planning meetings, community backing, and the essential role of Boherbue Co-Op: 'This factory will export to over 70 countries and generate €100 million in export trade. But more importantly, it's an investment in people—in jobs, in families, and in the future of rural Ireland. Boherbue has always punched above its weight, and today, we take our place on the world stage.' The Kanturk-Mallow Councillor said the recent upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant in Boherbue paved the way to securing the new cheese plant. "The crucial, crucial thing to make this plant happen today was because we had the €9 million-wastewater treatment plant. It's a fantastic investment in Boherbue for housing, for shops, for development, for everything." The upgrade, which was carried out by Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Cork County Council, modernised and improved the performance and capacity of the plant and has improved the quality of treated wastewater discharged into the Brogeen River, a protected conservation area and home to the freshwater pearl mussel. ADVERTISEMENT Learn more Mayor of County Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll, also underlined the importance of the local infrastructure in his words at the opening. "This is a day of celebration not only for Ingredient Solutions but for the entire local community. Cork County Council has been proud to support this development, particularly through our investment in the nine-million-euro upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant here in Boherbue. This critical infrastructure paved the way for growth like we're seeing today, enabling businesses to expand, create jobs and contribute to the local community." Michael Moynihan, Fianna Fail TD for Cork North-West and Minister of State at the Department of Education and Youth, said: 'This is not just a local success story—it's a strategic investment in the future of food production in Ireland and beyond. As the global population grows, Ireland must lead in producing sustainable, high-quality food. This facility proves rural communities like Boherbue are more than ready to meet that challenge.' Production at the new plant is scheduled to begin in July and will consolidate Ingredient Solutions' growing reputation as a global leader in cheese manufacturing. The company has also launched a refreshed version of Ingredient Solutions' Yellow Road brand—named after the English translation of 'Boherbue'—targeting new markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

Cork food firm Ingredient Solutions opens new €15m cheese production facility

Cheese processing firm Ingredient Solutions is aiming to push turnover beyond €130m and begin recruiting new staff with the opening of a new €15m production facility in Co Cork. Ingredient Solutions opened 25 years ago, on the site of the old Boherbue Creamery in Duhallow. A quarter of century later, the company is preparing to move production into its new state-of-the-art seven-acre plant 200m away, as it looks to export to 70 countries. Turnover at Ingredient Solutions has now reached €65m annually, making 14,000 tonnes of cheese products. 'With the opening of the new plant, we are now looking to double that turnover over the coming years,' said chief executive Gary Davies. Ingredient Solutions provides cheese ingredients and products across many sectors of the food industry, with cheese products made in Boherbue on supermarket shelves across Ireland and the UK, and products used in the food industry right across the world. The cheese produced includes everything from grated and sliced cheeses to pizza toppings and vegan alternatives, with the bulk of the cheese used in production sourced locally. The cheese is sold globally in the food trade under the 'Yellow Road' brand, with the name coming from the English translation of Boherbue. In May 2022, Australian private cheese firm Rupp bought out Ingredient Solutions but Rupp has continued to invest in the Duhallow plant. Rupp Board members Laura Rupp, John Broekmans, Mathias Gattermayer, Daniel Marte, Stefan Walter, and Ingredient Solutions managing director Gary Davies. The new facility opened on Tuesday and production will begin there next month, boosting capacity, exports, and long-term employment in the Duhallow region. It includes 5,000 square metres of production and storage space, increasing chilled capacity to over 1,600 pallets and enabling the company to scale from 12,000 to 27,000 tonnes annually, with future expansion potential to 35,000 tonnes. 'We've truly outgrown our original facility in terms of capacity. We've built this new facility not just to meet today's needs, but to secure our ability to innovate and grow in the years ahead,' Mr Davies told the Irish Examiner. Mr Davies said that from a company started by founder Ian Galletly with five employees in the year 2000, Ingredient Solutions now employs close to 100 people in Duhallow, North Cork, with plans to recruit around 50 new staff in the next eight years. The event was attended by government representatives, industry leaders, and local stakeholders, including John Broekmans, chief executive of Ingredient Solutions' Austrian-based parent company Rupp, Mayor of Co Cork Cllr Joe Carroll, Minister of State Michael Moynihan TD, Cllr Bernard Moynihan, and Fr Jim Kennelly, who offered a blessing of the facility. 'This is not just a local success story — it's a strategic investment in the future of food production in Ireland and beyond," said Deputy Moynihan. "As the global population grows, Ireland must lead in producing sustainable, high-quality food. This facility proves rural communities like Boherbue are more than ready to meet that challenge.' "Ian Galletly arrived here 25 years ago with a dream, and he delivered. What was once a shed is now a world-class production site."

The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland Turn to Epson Projection for Six Performance Venues

Epson's Interchangeable Lens Laser Projectors Prove Essential for Meeting Diverse Content Needs LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., March 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) is a premier, state-of-the-art facility with six performance venues, supporting over 1,200 events a year. Fostering creativity, education and performance, The Clarice houses the School of Music; School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies; The Clarice's own artistic platform for visiting artists, Clarice Presents; and the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library. As a hub for artistic innovation, projection plays a vital role in illuminating the center's events, productions, educational courses, and communal spaces. Each show and event are very different, demanding a variety of projection solutions along with unique installation challenges and requirements. Epson's extensive lineup of interchangeable lens laser projectors has been crucial for meeting the diverse projection needs across multiple venues. "Our team handles all the tech in-house, and I'm a big fan of Epson's versatile lineup and wide range of lens options," said Zach Rupp, projections coordinator, The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. "Every project has its own unique scope of work, and being able to use the same projectors, with lenses that can be used between models, has been crucial. The projectors' level of adaptability and ability to completely change production with a simple lens swap has been invaluable as we manage so many different types of venues and events." The Clarice has used Epson projectors in multiple ways for many different productions. From using nine Epson projectors to light up the stage for an opera production with projected subtitles, to students working with the projectors in the immersive media design education program, to deploying 16 projectors to transform an entire lobby for its recent NextNOW Fest 2024. Epson's versatile lineup has allowed the center to meet the diverse display needs of everyone. NextNOW Fest ProjectionIn its eleventh year, the annual NextNOW Fest 2024 – an inspiring arts experience that celebrates imagination, creativity and community – took place in early September at The Clarice. A signature event in the University of Maryland's Arts for All initiative, Rupp and his team used 14 Epson large venue laser projectors to cover nearly 2,000 square feet of space in the center's Grand Pavilion, a central hub for its six performance venues. Lighting up nearly every surface in the multi-level lobby, scenes of abstract free-flowing color and form, to marketing content and a live camera feed took over the space, displaying eye-popping color and exquisite detail that wowed guests upon arrival. Rupp and his team created and delivered the content using a combination of the projector's built-in curved surface mapping tools, along with blending and stacking techniques and third-party management software, including WATCHOUT 6 multi-display software. The projectors were networked together, allowing for remote access and a convenient set-and-forget solution. Some of the projectors were stacked on top of one another in Epson's projector stacking frame to increase brightness and provide redundancy. This also provided flexible stacking and peace of mind during installation and handling. "The entryway blew attendees away right from the start," Rupp said. "It truly set the stage for what to expect at the rest of the festival." Interchangeable Lenses for Diverse ApplicationsAs an established brand and leader in the projector industry, Epson also works with several equipment rental and staging companies such as 4Wall to offer end users greater flexibility, whether they need a temporary rental or a lens swap based on specific projector requirements. "4Wall has been a fantastic partner for Epson rentals, allowing us to own what we need and supplement our collection with rentals," said Jeff Reckeweg, technology shop manager, The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. "Owning and renting within the Epson projector and interchangeable lens ecosystem has been both convenient and cost-effective." Epson projectors provide unmatched creative possibilities and audience experiences with state-of-the-art technology, delivering exceptional color output and durability. Featuring a single lens family that supports a wide range of projectors from 6,000 to 20,000 lumens1 from ultra-short-throw to long-throw. Advanced projection technology combined with motorized lenses enables a wide range of lens shift capabilities for added installation flexibility. "At Epson, we prioritize outstanding image quality and reliability while offering tools that make projector installations easier," said Ramzi Shakra, senior product manager, Epson America, Inc. "The feedback we receive from end users is extremely important to us as it plays a crucial role in shaping our product development and improvements. It's great to see The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center taking full advantage of Epson's flexible lineup and versatile lens options." Southwest Kansas reservoir staff preparing for another busy outdoor recreation season

A boy takes a photo of a flock of birds as they fly Feb. 2, 2025, over HorseThief Reservoir. Park staff are preparing for busy spring and summer seasons. (AJ Dome for Kansas Reflector) HODGEMAN COUNTY — As a southwest Kansas native, Audrey Rupp gets excited by lakes and reservoirs. 'It's not something we see a lot,' Rupp said partially in jest. Rupp is in her fourth year serving as park manager for HorseThief Reservoir in Hodgeman County, 11 miles west of the rural community of Jetmore and within an hour's drive of Dodge City and Garden City. She also manages the HorseThief Reservoir Benefit District, including a volunteer board that oversees park operations. The dam, boat ramps, restrooms and roads around the reservoir were completed in fall 2009, and the 450-acre reservoir filled to 50% capacity using just rainfall in spring 2010. Rupp, who graduated from high school in Greeley County in 2009, first learned of the opportunities at HorseThief while attending college. 'I went to an event called Camp Wild Woman — that was an all-women's weekend where we could try anything outdoors,' Rupp said. 'I thought, 'Oh my gosh, this is amazing.' I never personally knew anything about the reservoir until that event, and now I manage it, so it's come full circle.' The HTR Benefit District and board of directors were established in 2004, but the conversation about creating a recreational body of water in the Hodgeman County area had been circulating since the 1930s. In the 1960s, the Pawnee Watershed District was formed, and according to a statement from former park manager Troy Brown on the park website, it's the largest watershed district in the U.S. at more than 1.5 million acres across nine counties. Brown wrote that discussions became serious in the mid-1990s with Department of Wildlife and Parks employees about developing a reservoir in southwest Kansas. Then-manager of the Pawnee Watershed District, Ron Allen, met with Brown, who managed Cedar Bluff Reservoir at the time, to talk about how to construct a recreational park. Voters in Ford, Finney, Gray and Hodgeman counties approved a bond issue in 2004 to fund the project. Once the reservoir filled halfway in 2010, the benefit district board chose to open the park on a limited basis for fishers and boaters. Camping spots opened in 2012. The reservoir reached capacity on July 1, 2016, according to Brown. Even through several years of drought conditions, Rupp said the water level has stayed somewhat consistent since then. 'That's something I never stop hearing: 'I never thought that lake would fill with water.' Last year it looked kind of bleak, we had docks that weren't even touching water. This year we're full again,' Rupp said. Rupp is currently working on adding several amenities to the park, which already includes a large event building and several yurts, or round tent-like structures, that people can reserve. She's also organizing a raffle prize drawing where people can purchase tickets for $25 to raise funds for a kayak rental kiosk that is coming soon. 'It's like a vending machine for kayaks,' Rupp said. 'It can accommodate a range of kayak types.' The drawing ends with a winner chosen March 21. Information can be found on the HorseThief Reservoir website. The park is open year-round, and Rupp said now is the time for maintenance and improvements around the park. She and her staff, two full-time employees and a few seasonal workers, are also preparing for the park's first big event in April. Formerly the Plow Day BBQ Contest, the event has been rebranded this year as Smoke on the Water. Rupp said it will feature a barbecue competition, antique tractor and car show, pedal pulls and youth train rides, yard games and more. The free event is on April 26. Rupp said Memorial Day weekend kicks off the park's busy season, as camping spots are quickly reserved. This year park staff are hosting a Memorial Day Luau with a traditional pig roast. July 4 will feature a large fireworks show over the reservoir. Labor Day weekend will see the return of the annual HorseThief Kite Festival. 'Some of the kites are the length of a football field,' Rupp said. 'It's wild.' Rupp said she's also working on constructing a trail system for hikers and horseback riders around the perimeter of the reservoir using the state's Trail in a Box program. The Kansas Trails Council offers three to five trailers full of tools like shovels and weed whackers for people to use at no cost to build their own trail systems. Rupp said she just needs 'a nice day' to open the trailers and get to work.

Former Penguins Forward Has High Praise For New Canucks Defenseman

A former Pittsburgh Penguins forward and current NHL TV analyst had a lot of good things to say about a recently traded blue liner. Defenseman Marcus Pettersson - traded from the Penguins to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday, along with forward Drew O'Connor, for a package involving a first-round pick - earned some high praise from former Penguins forward Mike Rupp in his appearance on NHL Network. "Marcus Pettersson, for me, he's a Jaccob Slavin-like," Rupp said. "I think he is a top-five defensive defenseman in the league, and any team and all teams, I think, have been calling [Penguins GM and POHO] Kyle Dubas and talking to him over the last, probably, year-plus about Marcus Pettersson. "I think you win with guys like that. He'll be missed in Pittsburgh, but they did what they had to do in this situation. They got a good one in Vancouver." "I think [Marcus Pettersson] is a top five defensive defenseman in the league."@Rupper17 thinks Marcus Pettersson will be a big piece for the @Canucks moving forward.#Canucks | #NHLNow — NHL Network (@NHLNetwork) February 4, 2025 Pettersson, 28, was traded to Pittsburgh during the 2018-19 season from the Anaheim Ducks. It took him a few years to develop, but he soldified himself as a top-four defenseman in the Penguins lineup over the last three seasons. He and O'Connor were traded to Vancouver on Friday for defenseman Vincent Desharnais, forward Danton Heinen, and the conditional first-round pick that the Canucks received from the New York Rangers when they dealt J.T. Miller earlier that same day. The 6-foot-5, 175-lb. defenseman is known for his long reach and defensive acumen. However, he had been enduring a down year defensively in 2024-25 in a Penguins' system that struggles to prevent goals-against. He has also shown some flashes of two-way upside in recent seasons, as he has largely been paired with Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang, both offensive defensemen. Pettersson has 17 goals and 151 points in 492 NHL games. Marcus Pettersson - Minnesota Wild (2) — NHL Goal Videos (@NHLGoalVideos) December 4, 2024 Do you agree with Rupp's assessment?
