Minister lays foundation for project works worth ₹4.22 crore in Salem
Tourism Minister R. Rajendran laid the foundation stone for works worth ₹4.22 crore and participated in the ground breaking ceremony for laying roads under the Chief Minister's Rural Road Development Scheme in eight places in Omalur Panchayat Union on Friday.
At the function, Mr. Rajendran said roads were to be laid from Vellalapatti to Gopinathapuram via Nalukkalpalam and in Sakkarapatti village at ₹2.16 crore. Likewise, roads were to be laid from the Mankuppai panchayat office to Raja Thottam and from Mankuppai to Perumal Kovil Mandapam at ₹61 lakh. Similarly, roads were to be laid from Mokkarayankadu to Crusher and Kottamettupattti to Poolavari at ₹83.63 crore and from Kuppanur to Amarakunthi in Sikkampatti village at ₹25.94 lakh.
Stating that 5,644 development works worth ₹344 crore were implemented in the Omalur panchayat union in the last four years, the Minister said that under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme, 121 beneficiaries received ₹3.75 crore and 267 beneficiaries received ₹1.57 crore under the Rural Buildings Maintenance and Renovation Scheme.
Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, works worth ₹248 crore and under the panchayat union general funds, 397 scheme works worth ₹11.42 crore were carried out. Under the Chief Minister's Rural Road Development Scheme, roads worth ₹6.78 crore were laid in 18 places in the Omalur panchayat union, the Minister added.
In the function, District Collector R. Brindha Devi and officials participated.
