New perimeter fence boosts safety at SK Agama Bintulu, says rep
Pang engages with a group of pupils during his visit to the school field. BINTULU (July 31): The completion of a new perimeter fence around the multipurpose field at Sekolah Kebangsaan Agama Bintulu marks a significant step in enhancing the safety and recreational environment for its pupils, said Johnny Pang. The Tanjong Batu assemblyman noted that the fencing now allows pupils to engage in outdoor activities with greater peace of mind, reducing the risk of balls straying beyond the field and minimising safety concerns. Pang, who visited the school yesterday alongside officers from the Public Works Department (JKR), inspected the completed project and engaged with the school management to discuss additional needs. 'This school has served our community for nearly three decades, and many of its facilities are showing signs of wear. 'I remain committed to supporting upgrades through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP),' he said. He added that the next development phase, namely the cement paving of the central courtyard, will begin soon to provide a more spacious and functional area for school activities. Pang also highlighted plans for additional upgrades, including the installation of anti-slip tiles and construction of covered walkways, to improve overall safety and comfort for both pupils and teachers. johnny pang lead perimeter fence SK Agama Bintulu

Rep: Nation's first RC powerboat pond being planned in Machan
Allan Siden Gramong SIBU (July 29): The first remote-control (RC) powerboat pond in the country is being planned in Machan, said Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong. According to him, his side is now in the process of surveying land for the RM700,000 project site, adding that the old 'tamu' (farmers and jungle produce market) area could be it. 'We are also still finding a consultant for this project as it is the first of its kind in the country. 'The main purpose of building the pond is for the convenience of RC powerboat racers and enthusiasts. 'We are aware that they have to find unused ponds for their activities. 'Besides that, I believe the new pond would enliven the old 'tamu' area with the presence of those involved in RC power-boating,' he told reporters when met after officiating at the closing of the Sibu International Remote Control Powerboat Race River Challenge 2025 here last Sunday. Allan added that the project would funded under the Machan state constituency's Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) grant. The assemblyman also planned to have trading stalls and entertainment at the pond. 'We hope this plan could materialise in two years' time. 'Still, this also depends on the implementing agency,' he pointed out. Allan Siden Gramong lead Machan RC powerboats

Call to give rural S'wak school-leavers a chance at Universiti Teknologi Petronas
Julaihi delivers his speech. — Photo by Chimon Upon SEBUYAU (July 27): Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), a subsidiary of Petronas, has been encouraged to facilitate higher education opportunities at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) for rural school-leavers, particularly from SMK Sebuyau, to help nurture local talent and bridge the rural-urban education gap. Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunications, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, who is also Sebuyau assemblyman, said many rural youths possessed the potential and talent to excel if given access to quality education in a supportive learning environment. 'I strongly hope that Petronas will give special consideration to SPM school leavers here by opening the door for them to pursue their studies at UTP soon,' he told a press conference after officiating the Petronas Powering Knowledge: MLNG Bestari Outreach Programme handing over ceremony at SMK Sebuyau yesterday. He emphasised that such opportunities would allow rural students to experience the same educational environment and facilities as their urban counterparts, offering them a fair platform to succeed. 'They just need the space and support. I believe they can succeed and attain excellent results,' he said. Julaihi said with access to higher education, Sarawak could nurture more local engineering talent to serve in Petronas, the state government, or other players in the oil and gas sector including Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros). 'Therefore, I hope Petronas will respond positively and look into expanding higher education access for rural youth in Sarawak.' Meanwhile, he expressed appreciation for Petronas's contribution through its subsidiary, MLNG, to SMK Sebuyau, particularly in upgrading the school's facilities. He said SMK Sebuyau remains one of the older schools in the area and is in urgent need of a complete replacement. 'I've contributed canopies for the school's use, but they're still insufficient given the growing number of students,' he said, adding that assistance was also channelled under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to construct a new community hall. Julaihi revealed that the current student population at SMK Sebuyau has reached 936. 'With such a large number, I'm truly grateful for Petronas MLNG's support. 'Without facility limitations, this school could probably accommodate even more students,' he said. Julaihi Narawi mlng school-leavers Universiti Teknologi Petronas

Grassroots leaders must understand govt initiatives to better serve rural communities, says Telang Usan rep
Dennis (seated centre) with other guests and participants commemorate the event with a group photo. MIRI (July 25): Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau has called on grassroots leaders to develop a clear understanding of government initiatives implemented in their areas. He said by doing so, they will be better positioned to support and explain these efforts to the people, thus reinforcing public trust and encouraging active participation in the state's development agenda ― particularly rural and remote communities. 'I urge the leaders ― including community leaders, village chiefs, and members of the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) ― to fully understand what government initiatives are. These refer to any plans or programmes intended to bring benefits to the people,' he said. Dennis was speaking to reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony of the MyDesa Leadership Course for the Orang Ulu community from Telang Usan district and the Long Bedian sub-district, held today. According to him, one of the key initiatives currently being championed by the Sarawak government is the carbon trading programme ― which aims to tap into the state's vast forest resources as a new source of economic value. 'In addition to conserving forests, the initiative will also provide economic returns and job opportunities for the people,' he said. However, Dennis also cautioned that there are certain quarters attempting to stir unrest by urging locals to reject these government-backed efforts. 'That is why it is important for our grassroots leaders to truly understand these programmes. If they don't understand, they should reach out to us for clarification,' he added. Dennis further urged community leaders to strengthen grassroots support for the Sarawak leadership under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. He noted that through Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), numerous development projects have been delivered to Baram under mechanisms such as the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), Highland Development Agency (HDA), Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda), and others. In addition, he advised grassroots leaders to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, emphasising that they will play a crucial role in shaping the future of their communities. 'They face significant challenges, but I urge them to take a long-term approach in all that they do,' he said. Dennis also reminded village chiefs to update their village profiles with the District Office and the Telang Usan constituency service centre to streamline applications and requests. 'They should familiarize themselves with the procedures to apply for project funding from both state and federal agencies,' he stressed. The MyDesa Leadership Course, organized by the Sarawak branch of the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA), ran for three days beginning July 23 at Dynasty Hotel. A total of 103 participants took part, comprising JKKK chairpersons, secretaries, and two bureau representatives, nominated by the District Office. The course aimed to strengthen participants' leadership capacity, improve governance in village-level administration, and equip them with practical knowledge to plan, implement, and report initiatives more effectively. Also present were Sarawak INFRA head Annie Liaw, Senior Assistant Director (Administration Unit) of Sarawak Premier's Department Azmi Usup, Long Bedian sub-district administrative officer Nancy Abau, and Pemanca Nawan Luhat.
