SAA chairman David Ngu revealed that the 15-month project located at Jalan Alan here carries a total estimated cost of RM6.5 million. Ngu expressed relief upon receiving a RM200,000 donation from a charitable organisation based in Peninsular Malaysia. 'We are still very far off financially. That's why I constantly seek financial help,' Ngu told a press conference here today. According to him, one of SAA's founding members, Wong Ching Yong, had approached him and asked if there was any way that he could assist. Ngu explained that he had conveyed the urgency of the funding shortfall to Wong and detailed previous efforts that had not yielded promising results. 'He (Wong) suggested that I write a letter to a charitable body in Peninsular and not long after, we received a reply confirming a contribution of RM200,000. 'We are extremely grateful for their generosity. It is the largest single donation received so far,' he said, while thanking Wong for his assistance. It was learnt that the charitable body contributing the RM200,000 donation is the Lee Foundation States of Malaya. Ngu also revealed that Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang, who is also Pelawan assemblyman, has pledged RM500,000 from his Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation for road and drainage infrastructure. Meanwhile, Wong disclosed his prior involvement as organising chairman for SAA's annual food fair fundraising campaign from 2000 to 2020, giving him insight into the association's long-standing financial challenges. 'Sibu folks have always been generous in stepping forward to donate. Currently, SAA is constructing a new facility specifically for young adults with autism,' said Wong, who also serves as the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Dudong branch chairman. 'Back in 2000, they were all children. Now they have grown up and need a facility that can help them acquire skills for independent living, especially when their parents are no longer around. 'This is one of the primary purposes of the new building,' he said. Wong added that while RM700,000 has been raised, the funding gap remains wide, and more contributions are urgently needed from the public. Ngu noted that the current facility houses around 60 children aged up to 12, while the upcoming building – now nearing completion – is intended to accommodate up to 200 young adults, depending on staff availability. He added that the new building will provide vocational training, including farming activities, basic food preparation, and life skills for its residents. He further stated that Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah will officiate the roof-topping ceremony on August 18. The project is reportedly ahead of schedule. 'Initially, the project was scheduled for completion in May, 2026. However, based on the latest update from the contractor, it is expected to be completed by the end of this year,' said Ngu. When completed, the three-storey facility will include offices and administration space on the ground floor, classrooms on the first floor, and therapy session rooms on the third floor. Also present at the press conference was SUPP Dudong advisor Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck. David Ngu new building shortfall Sibu Autistic Association

Jalan Kuching Ranger Depo drainage system to get RM300,000 upgrade
Yap (second right) hands over the LoA to the contractor's representative. KUCHING (July 11): The drainage system at Jalan Kuching Ranger Depo, Mile 7 here will get an RM300,000 upgrade. When handing over the letter of award (LoA) to the contractor today, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the upgrading comes under his 2023 Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation. It will involve constructing around 300 metres of reinforced concrete drains measuring 1.2 metres wide and between 1.2 and 1.5 metres deep. 'The drainage upgrade is urgently needed to address repeated flash flooding problems affecting the area in front of the Kota Sentosa Library, Tadika Dewan Perniagaan Batu Tujuh, and the Seventh Mile Community Association Hall. 'For years, heavy rainfall has caused overflows that disrupted daily activities, endangered road users, and created inconvenience for the public,' Yap said in a press statement following a site visit with Public Works Department (JKR) officers. He said the project is also necessary due to visible signs of soil erosion along the roadside, which could further undermine road stability and safety if not addressed. Construction work is scheduled to begin immediately and expected to be completed by the middle of November. According to Yap, the project will solve the Mile 7 area's long-standing drainage and flooding issues. 'This project is part of my ongoing commitment to listen to residents' complaints and act decisively to improve public safety and quality of life. I take every report from the community seriously and I will continue working closely with JKR, local leaders, and residents to ensure that infrastructure issues are properly addressed,' he said. He stressed the successful implementation of such projects reflects the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government's focus on practical solutions rather than empty promises. 'As your representative, I will always be ready to hear your concerns and work together towards sustainable improvements in Kota Sentosa. I encourage all residents to continue engaging with my service centre so that no issue, big or small, goes unnoticed,' he added. drainage system Jalan Kuching Ranger Depo lead Mile 7 Wilfred Yap

Lee orders immediate inspection of Kampung Tudan 3 road widening project
Lee (second left) inspects the ongoing Kampung Tudan 3 road widening project. Also seen in the picture are Peter (second right), Chong (left) and Hiung (right). MIRI (July 7): Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin has directed an immediate and comprehensive inspection of the ongoing Kampung Tudan 3 road widening project following public complaints regarding the quality and safety standards of the construction. Lee, who is also the Senadin assemblyman, personally inspected the site on Friday, July 4, after receiving feedback from residents expressing concern that the stone base in the widened areas may not meet the specified construction standards. 'Any non-compliance issue must be addressed before proceeding with the laying of the premix,' said Lee in a statement, following the site visit. He was accompanied by Miri City Council (MCC) engineer Peter Ukin, MCC councillor Hiung Chien Yii, and community leader Kapitan Chong Ah Muk. Lee instructed the engineer to carry out a thorough inspection of the stone base to verify the contractor's compliance with the required technical specifications. The Kampung Tudan 3 to Kampung Cina road widening project is being implemented under the Senadin constituency Rural Transformation Project (RTP). Lee also emphasised the proper use of construction waste for earth-filling works, requiring that only specified materials be used in compliance with environmental and structural standards. To avoid similar issues in future projects, Lee urged MCC to assign dedicated technical staff to regularly verify that construction standards and specifications are strictly adhered to. During the same visit, Lee and his team also inspected several completed road resurfacing projects in Tudan, including Lorong Harmoni with a total road length of 2,060 metres, and Lorong Perdana, covering 2,082 metres. The completed works at both locations were found to be satisfactory. kampung tudan lead Lee Kim Shin road upgrades

Kota Sentosa dental unit gets new boiler, returns to full functionality
Yap (second right) is seen when inspecting the newly-installed boiler. KUCHING (June 25): The Kota Sentosa Health Clinic Dental Unit received a new wall-mounted water boiler yesterday. The dental team at the clinic had informed Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap that the previous water boiler had malfunctioned, causing significant inconvenience and delays, particularly in the making of dentures for patients. 'I was informed that patients requiring dentures were being affected due to the faulty equipment. 'As their elected representative, it is my duty to assist where and when I can to ensure essential healthcare services continue smoothly,' said Yap, who is Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa chairman. The absence of a functioning boiler had forced staff to resort to boiling water using kettles – an inefficient and time-consuming workaround that affected the speed and hygiene of the denture fabrication process. The new boiler ensures that the dental unit can now return to full functionality, with a reliable and continuous supply of hot water critical for cleaning, wax processing, and other denture-making procedures. Yap (third left) hands over the letter for the Seventh Mile Community Association Hall car park upgrade. Separately today, Yap visited the site of the Seventh Mile Community Association Hall for the official handover of the Letter of Award to the contractor for resurfacing works at the hall's car park. The RM30,000 project, funded under Yap's Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation, will be implemented by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP). 'The resurfaced parking area will greatly improve accessibility and convenience for family members and visitors who gather to pay their final respects to departed loved ones,' said Yap. 'Many residents rely on the hall for such solemn occasions, particularly when their own homes are not suitable for religious or customary rites.' He said Sarawak Energy Berhad, through its operational and retail arm Syarikat Sesco Berhad (Sesco), had recently installed 68 new street lights across 15 locations in the constituency. 'The 15 locations are Jalan Segubang, Kampung Rantau Panjang, Jalan Moyan Segah, Jalan Moyan Indah, Kim Shak, Sin San Tu B, Jalan Desa Wira, Jalan RPR Batu Kawah, Jalan Batu Kawah, Kampung Stapok, Jalan Segedup, Jalan Highfield, Kampung Sinar Budi Lama, Jalan Sungai Tapang Ulu and Jalan Rantau Panjang. 'The project, funded under my Rural Transformation Project (RTP), involved a total investment of RM83,846,' said the Batu Kawah assemblyman in a statement today. Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said priority will be given to locations with existing utility poles, high-traffic zones and road bends deemed hazardous. For areas without electricity infrastructure but with pressing needs, alternative arrangements will be made, he said. 'Street lighting has long been a fundamental need voiced by Batu Kawah residents. Since being elected as their representative in 2016, I have consistently raised this issue with the Premier of Sarawak. 'I am grateful that the Premier understands the grassroots needs and has extended his full support, both in principle and funding, demonstrating the Sarawak government's genuine commitment to improving the quality of life for Sarawakians,' he said. Dr Sim encouraged residents to continue playing an active role as the 'eyes and ears' of the community by sharing constructive suggestions or reporting any local issues, adding that a safer and brighter Batu Kawah is a goal that can only be achieved by working together.
