Russian FM Sergey Lavrov discusses importance of Moscow-Beijing ties with Chinese FM Wang Yi
Kuala Lumpur, July 10 (UNI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi at the ASEAN summit in Malaysia, said that the ever-evolving global landscape and the accompanying geopolitical complexities worldwide, require further collaboration between Russia and China, reports state media TASS. Speaking with Wang Yi at the sidelines of the summit, Lavrov said 'This meeting further confirms the global reach and strategic nature of our relations. 'These ties are all the more essential against the backdrop of complex and highly dynamic global developments, which necessitate our continuous dialogue in the spirit of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation, as instructed by our leaders.' Currently in Kuala Lumpur, the Russian FM also met with his Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Hasan and discussed the prospect of further enhancement of bilateral ties with Malaysia, and strategic cooperation between Moscow and ASEAN nations. The Russian diplomat is also slated to take part in a Russia-ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting and in the meetings of the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Forum for security, as well as hold separate meetings with officials from several South East Asian countries.

Lavrov-Rubio meeting in Kuala Lumpur being worked out
KUALA LUMPUR — A meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Kuala Lumpur on the sidelines of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) events is being worked out, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told RIA Novosti. 'I confirm: such a meeting is being worked out,' Zakharova said in response to a relevant question. Lavrov has arrived here to participate in ministerial meetings on July 10-11. According to Zakharova, Lavrov is also expected to hold a number of bilateral meetings with Asian partners on the sidelines of the ASEAN events. A meeting between Lavrov and Rubio is scheduled for 10:00 GMT on Thursday, according to the US State Department schedule. Lavrov will participate in the meetings at the level of foreign ministers in three formats: Russia-ASEAN, the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the ASEAN Regional Security Forum (ARF). Among permanent participants of EAS there are not only ASEAN countries, but also their dialogue partners, including China, Russia and the United States. ASEAN was founded in 1967. It unites 10 countries of Southeast Asia – Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.
