Ukraine informed US of large-scale attack on Russian airfields in advance, says Axios
Axios has reported that Ukraine informed the United States in advance of its Security Service (SSU) operation that resulted in the destruction of dozens of Russian aircraft. Background: On 1 June, Russia was hit by a series of strikes on at least four airfields. Sources told Ukrainska Pravda this was an SSU special operation that resulted in damage to approximately 40 aircraft, particularly strategic bombers. An Ukrainska Pravda source within the SSU said that this operation had been in preparation for over a year and a half. As part of the operation, the Ukrainian special service first smuggled first-person view drones into Russia, followed later by mobile wooden crates used to conceal the drones. "At the right moment, the roofs of the crates were remotely opened and the drones flew out to target Russian bombers," the source stated. Finland says two Russian military aircraft suspected of violating its airspace
HELSINKI, May 23 (Reuters) - Two Russian military aircraft are suspected of having violated Finnish airspace on Friday, Finland's defence ministry said in a statement. The incident occurred off the coast of Porvoo in southern Finland, the ministry added. "We take the suspected territorial violation seriously and an investigation is ongoing," Minister of Defence Antti Hakkanen said in the statement. The Finnish Border Guard is investigating the incident and will provide more detailed information at a later time, he added.

Polish Air Forces intercepted Russian SU-24 aircraft, minister says
WARSAW, May 23 (Reuters) - A Russian SU-24 aircraft was performing dangerous manoeuvres on Thursday evening and was intercepted by Polish Air Forces, Minister of National Defence Wladysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Friday, without giving further details. He added that the order to intercept the aircraft was issued by the joint operational command for NATO allied forces in Europe and the Polish jets located the aircraft, intercepted it and effectively deterred it.

Britain intercepts Russian aircraft over Baltic Sea

(EPA Images pic) LONDON : Britain said today two of its fighter jets had intercepted Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea close to Nato alliance airspace in separate incidents on Tuesday and Thursday. The Typhoon fighters were scrambled to intercept a Russian Ilyushin Il-20M 'Coot-A' intelligence aircraft on Tuesday, Britain's ministry of defence said in a statement. Two days later, two Typhoons intercepted an unknown aircraft leaving Kaliningrad airspace, it said. Minister for the armed forces Luke Pollard said with Russian aggression growing and security threats on the rise, Britain was stepping up to reassure its allies, deter adversaries and protect its national security. 'This mission shows our ability to operate side by side with Nato's newest member Sweden and to defend the alliance's airspace wherever and whenever needed, keeping us safe at home and strong abroad,' he said in a statement. There was no immediate reaction from Russia.
