Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss still looking to strengthen squad
Glencairn have made a trio of signings in the last week, but want to add Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss Joe Pryce is still looking to add to his squad, after making a trio of signings. Glencairn snapped up striker Josh Gemmell from Lowland League club Caledonian Braves and goalkeeper Blair Lochhead from Ashfield, while fellow keeper Ryan Truesdale comes in on loan from St Cadoc's. Goalkeeper Kieran McDougall has left the club after a year, as a result. Lochhead started, while Gemmell replaced Ryan McManus in 69 minutes and nearly scored late on. Truesdale remained on the bench. Pryce said: 'We managed to get in Josh Gemmell, who came on and looked lively. Their keeper pulled off a really good save from Josh, otherwise he would have snatched the winner for us. 'I'm sure Josh will be a real asset for us. 'Danny Smith, who we got in from Sauchie as well, looked very good on Saturday. 'We had to get some goalkeepers in and we're delighted to get Blair and Ryan in, two real quality goalkeepers, both of them. 'Blair is our signing, while Ryan is on loan, and we're really grateful to St Cadoc's for loaning him out to us. 'They're two lads who have played in the Premier Division, they know it, and they add a bit of stability to the back line, and we're very fortunate to have them both. 'We would like a couple more in, but I'm more interested in the right type and quality of player, rather than the numbers. 'We're starting the season with 17 signed players, and will just go from there. If we manage to pick up another one or two in the next three or four weeks, and if we can't, so be it.' Glencairn turn their attention to a visit to Hurlford United on Saturday, as they face up to another giant of the junior game. Pryce said: 'That's another really tough game, they're a seasoned Premier League club, previous winners of the competition on a few occasions as well. 'We're starting the campaign with two away games, but it's just the way it works out. 'It's going to be a really tough task for us, but it's one we'll look forward to. We've got to look forward to every game in this division, because we worked so hard to get out of the First Division. 'That's what you want, to be playing against the best teams.'

Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss is looking to strengthen
The club are preparing for life in the West of Scotland Premier Division Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss Joe Pryce expects to add a goalkeeper after signing striker Josh Gemmell from Caledonian Braves. The 20-year-old, who signed on Tuesday morning, and is a graduate of Morton's youth set-up, was one of two trialists who played in Saturday's friendly at Glenrothes to mark the 50th anniversary of the sides meeting in the Scottish Junior Cup final. Glenrothes won 1-0 on both occasions, and was the final warm-up as Glens kick off their West of Scotland Premier Division campaign at Drumchapel United on Saturday. Pryce said: 'The reason they were trialists is purely because the forms hadn't gone through yet, but these boys will be joining us, that's for sure. 'At this time of year everything takes a bit longer, because everybody's putting paperwork in at the same time. 'But we had five of the under-20s up with us, helping us out. We had a few players missing through work commitments and holidays, but we made sure we participated in that celebration, because it was important. 'It was more about the occasion than the game, about celebrating the players from 50 years ago from both sets of clubs. 'The minute they invited us up, we were always going to go. It was a good day, the piper piping the old players onto the pitch, the Provost Jim Leishman being there – it was a terrific day, a great occasion, and something we're very proud to be part of. ' Pryce expects a fierce challenge from a Drumchapel side he reckons will be challenging for the title this season. He said: 'Pre-season has been excellent and we're ready for a really tough game on Saturday. 'Drumchapel are a good side, you can see some of the signings they've made, and they've added real quality to their team. 'They finished well last season in the top half of the table, and they'll be looking to go better than that. They're aiming for the top spot, and with the players they've signed, they should be. 'We're as prepared as we're going to be. We could have done with a few more bodies in the door, but they've got to be the right type. 'If we need to wait three or four weeks into the season to get them in, that's what we'll do. • Glencairn lost 3-1 in a friendly against Queen's Park under-19s at the Spiders' Lochinch training facility, with Ants Maguire getting the visitors' goal.

Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss left with rebuild job after summer exodus, but has 'added quality'
Joe Pryce is confident that he has strengthened his squad ahead of their return to the West of Scotland Premier Division A summer exodus has left Rutherglen Glencairn with a big turnaround as they prepare for life in the West of Scotland Premier Division. Co-boss Joe Pryce says he has the nucleus of his squad, but admits he's surprised by how many players left at the end of a promotion-winning season, including goalkeeper Chris White. But Pryce is confident that he has brought in quality players, which the club expects to start announcing in the coming days. 'We lost quite a few of last season's squad, it's almost in double figures, now, that have moved on,' said Pryce. 'It's a big turnaround for us. 'But the nucleus of the squad – eight or nine players – is still there, so we're looking to build around that. 'We're not going to have a huge squad, probably around 18 or 19. 'The players we're bringing in are certainly going to add quality. We've got a bit of youth, and a bit of experience. We're looking to add good legs in the midfield, to help us out. 'We need a new goalkeeper, because ours moved on, but these are things we're working on, and they're not easy to get in, because we're a bit picky. 'We want to make sure we get the right ones in, that's why we're taking our time, but I'm in no doubts that we'll get there, and we will be ready for the first game of the season.' Glens have been priced out of the market for some players, indicating what they will be up against next term. Pryce said: 'The finance that is being offered by other clubs is quite simply ludicrous, for our level, but it's what they're paying. 'I don't blame the players at all – if somebody is silly enough to offer you that kind of finance, take it. 'We've just got to look after ourselves, in that respect. We have our set budget, we'll work within that, and we'll make sure we're competitive in that top division.' Glencairn have announced three pre-season friendlies, starting at Thorn Athletic on Wednesday, July 9, Petershill on July 12, and Glenrothes on Saturday, July 19, the 50th anniversary of their Scottish Junior Cup final. Pryce said: 'There's no reason for them all being away from home, it's just those are the dates available. 'We have a couple of bounce games in-between as well, to help us out.'

Rutherglen Glencairn boss' 'upgrade' as he eyes summer signings
Joe Pryce reckons at least seven new faces will arrive for next season Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss Joe Pryce says he will be making an upgrade when he's able to announce 'at least seven' new faces for next season. Pryce and co-boss Billy Ogilvie have been working hard to rebuild their squad for next season in the West of Scotland Premier Division, having gained promotion last season. Pryce said: 'There's nothing we can officially do until people are out of contract on June 30. 'We're working hard behind the scenes, trying to get players in. 'We have two over the line at the moment, we're waiting on another three or four, and there are a few other boys who are coming in. 'It's all looking good at the moment, and if the players that we're after decide to come and join us, then we certainly know we're going to get an upgrade on the players that have moved on. 'The guys who have moved on were good players for us, did really well, but moving into the Premier League you've got to look to upgrade your squad, and be able to cope with that, which is what we're doing. 'In total, I would imagine there are going to be at least seven new players. Seven have moved on, so there will be at least seven coming in. 'If we start the league a couple down then so be it, I'm not fussed about having 20 players to start the campaign. We'll pick it up as we go from there. We're not going to rush in and sign players just for numbers, every player who comes in is going to need to be able to cope in the Premier Division, and contribute.' Glencairn have been drawn at home to Easterhouse in the Strathclyde Demolition Cup second round, while Pryce tries to secure summer friendlies. 'Four or five' friendlies are scheduled, although the dates have yet to be firmed up, with a possible switch of teams on July 5 and 12. But they will travel to Glenrothes on July 19 to mark the 50th anniversary of the sides meeting in the 1975 Scottish Junior Cup final, with any player who featured on the day welcome to attend.

Rutherglen Glencairn will cope with top flight test, says boss
Joe Pryce's side have been promoted to the West of Scotland Premier Division and he insists they can make an impact Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss Joe Pryce says his side aren't just going to make up the numbers in the West of Scotland Premier Division. The Glens co-boss says players don't want to operate with 10 men behind the ball and can showcase their talents in the top flight. He said: 'It's the Premier Division and we're going in against teams like Johnstone Burgh, who won the Scottish Cup on Sunday, Auchinleck, Cumnock, Pollok – the big hitters just keep coming and first and foremost we've got to make sure we can compete. 'But we want to do more than compete, we want to go in and play in the Premier Division and not just make up the numbers. 'We don't just want to go and have 10 men behind the ball, kicking it the way we're facing, footballers don't want to play that way, they want to showcase their talents. 'We won't build that way, we're going to go in and play the way we want. We know we're going to have to defend, and properly, but we still want to go up and play. We'll be a success, or we'll fail, but we'll do it our way.' Pryce has started looking ahead to next season and is on the verge of signing three defenders, though won't name them at this stage. However, Roan Fitzpatrick, Jack McIlveen and Allan Woodhouse have departed the club. Pryce said: We've spoken to quite a few, but it's that difficult part where players are just leaving clubs, want to see what else is there for them. 'We've been concentrating on our own players, making sure the ones we want to stay are tied up, but we have certainly been active in speaking to players. 'We know our targets, we know what we're looking for, and we're just waiting on players getting back to us. 'We've managed to get two centre-backs tied up at the minute, ready for next season, and we're speaking to another one. 'We lost Roan and Woody out the midfield, who are moving on, and Jack McIlveen has moved on to St Roch's as well. 'We were disappointed to lose those three, because we wanted to take them with us, but they've made their choice, that's up to them and we wish them all the best. They were a big part of what we achieved this year.' Pryce added: 'There are a couple of players that we've still to speak to, in terms of our own group, who won't be here next season, but it's quite slow and difficult. 'The financial landscape of the Premier League is way above First Division, so that's something we're adjusting to. But we are where we are, we're certainly not going to put the club in any trouble, trying to pay wages that we can't afford. 'We see other what clubs have done, and the perilous state they find themselves in, but that won't happen at Glencairn.'
