School huts painted ahead of sixth form opening in Guernsey
A school that is more than 50 years old is having a splash of colour added to it as it prepares to reopen as a sixth form. Former high school La Mare de Carteret closed its doors to students this year, but will officially open again as a temporary sixth form in to its outdoor huts are now being made, including the painting of subject themed murals, as they are made fit for purpose for the A-Level and IB Diploma subject Ryan Dawe, said: "It is a slightly older school, so we just hope brightening up the place will have a positive reaction, like they want to come down here, they want to be part of this community and part of this campus."
Coffee and Create are helping to work on the murals which will be based on the subject taught there, including performing arts, sports, psychology and sociology. Psychology teacher at the sixth form centre, Helen Watson, said: "I think for young people to feel that they matter, that they're important and valued, there has to be effort that goes on from the adults around them."This will help foster positive relationships with them."
