Dodgers formally activate Clayton Kershaw for season debut

May 18 - The Los Angeles Dodgers activated star left-hander Clayton Kershaw from the 60-day injured list Saturday in time for him to make his season debut that night against the Los Angeles Angels. The three-time National League Cy Young Award winner and 2014 NL MVP has been sidelined all season recovering from offseason surgery to repair meniscus damage in his left knee and a ruptured plantar plate in his left big toe. The 37-year-old Kershaw made just seven starts last season due to injuries. He went 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA. Kershaw is a stellar 10-2 with a 1.99 ERA in 16 career starts against the Angels. Overall, the 10-time All-Star is 212-94 with a 2.50 ERA and 2,968 strikeouts in 432 appearances (429 starts) over 17 seasons, all with the Dodgers. Los Angeles optioned right-hander Ryan Loutos to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 26-year-old allowed two runs and three hits in one inning during Friday's 6-2 loss to the Angels in his first appearance with the Dodgers. Los Angeles also transferred left-hander Blake Snell (shoulder) to the 60-day IL to open up a 40-man roster spot for Kershaw. --Field Level Media
