When was ice cream invented? It's more complicated than you think.
The origins of ice cream are surprisingly mysterious. Here's what to know about the dessert's history.
Halo Top is celebrating the International Day of Happiness on March 20 and the launch of eight new flavors by giving away 80,000 pints of its "too good to be true" ice cream.
"Halo Top is opening the freezer aisle doors to anyone who thinks this new, light yet indulgent ice cream, bursting with irresistible combinations, is too good to be true," the brand said in a news release Tuesday. "To prove them wrong, they're offering 80,000 free pints."
The brand, which was founded in 2012 "to deliver premium desserts that people can feel good about," said it is "ready to take on its skeptics" in celebration of International Happiness Day, adding it "confidently" stands "behind its new formula, which is also a good source of protein" and boasts "half the calories of other leading brands."
Each Halo Top ice-cream pint contains only 490 calories, Halo Top said, adding its latest "craveable innovation, the first-ever indulgent light ice cream packed with mix-ins in every bite, takes aim specifically at people who doubt that light ice cream can be as delicious as traditional options."
"Halo Top has always been about giving ice cream lovers everything they crave – all the rich, creamy indulgence of traditional ice cream without compromise," Halo Top's Director of Brand Marketing Ryan Roznowski said in a statement.
"These new pints take that to an entirely new level by packing mix-ins into every single bite, while still being half the calories of other brands out there," Roznowski added.
Halo Top said the brand personally reached out to vocal critics online and has offered them a first taste but will not reveal who those "skeptics" are because "this isn't a paid partnership or promotion."
What are the new Halo Top flavors?
Halo Top's new flavors, "each crafted to offer layers of texture and taste," include:
