OSU professor to explain the evolution of medicine in Marion talk
A free community lecture on drug design will take place in Marion on July 8.
Ohio State University Professor Ryan Yoder will present 'The Evolution of Drug Design: From Remedies to Rationality' at 5:30 p.m. at Bucci's Italian Scratch Kitchen. The event is part of the Buckeye Talks on Tap lecture series sponsored by The Ohio State University at Marion, according to an annoucement.
Yoder's presentation will explore the history of drug design, detailing how medicines have evolved from ancient remedies to modern therapies. He will discuss the shift from chance discoveries to systematic, science-based approaches in drug development. The lecture also will cover how advancements in technology, research methods, and regulations have influenced the creation and testing of medicines.
Yoder earned his Ph.D. in organic/computation chemistry from The Ohio State University in 2013. He teaches organic chemistry and mentors undergraduate research at the Ohio State Marion campus. His research focuses on drug design for cancer therapies, molecular modeling against toxic organophosphorus nerve agents, and innovative teaching methods in chemical education.
Buckeye Talks on Tap occurs on the second Tuesday of each month at Bucci's Italian Scratch Kitchen, 320 W. Center St., Marion. The series is modeled after the Science Café concept, which promotes engaging discussions between academic experts and the community in relaxed settings.
The lecture series aims to connect Ohio State faculty and community experts with local residents on various topics, including health and wellness, environmental issues, and engineering. The goal is to foster open discussions about subjects relevant to the Marion area.
Attendees are encouraged to enjoy food and drinks during the lecture. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for ordering, with the lecture starting at 5:30 p.m. A question-and-answer session will follow at 6 p.m. Participants will have a chance to win a door prize and enter a monthly drawing for a $500 tuition voucher to The Ohio State University at Marion.
