Notre Dame DL Rylie Mills get taken by the Seattle Seahawks and social media reacts

Notre Dame DL Rylie Mills get taken by the Seattle Seahawks and social media reacts Even coming off an injury, the Seattle Seahawks thought enough of Notre Dame defensive lineman Rylie Mills to take him in the NFL draft with the No. 142 overall pick of the fifth round. The senior had a huge final year in South Bend, registering 7.5 sacks and playing with great fundamentals at his position. It was a huge loss for the Irish when he was lost during the College Football Playoff run, but Mills did enough to get drafted. It was a great moment for him, as he accomplished one of his biggest dreams. Social media was sure happy for Mills to get selected, all seemingly shared the same thoughts, and here are some of the best reactions. Rylie Mills announcement coming from Germany Another member of the 2024 Notre Dame team gets picked, making Mills the fourth of this draft. More will come, but this moment had to be special for him. Marcus Freeman Before Freeman took over the head coaching position, he was Mills defensive coordinator and the trust was built then. The two have plenty of great memories together and Freeman knows the best is yet to come for Mills. A value pick for Seattle As long as Mills can recovery fully from his ACL injury, he's going to outperform his draft slot. Since it happened so late in the season, there is some potential that he won't be ready when fall camp starts, but he's worth the risk. Really interesting? It goes to show you that sometimes listening to the outside noise just isn't a good idea, and this seems to be the case with Mills. Even with the injury, he most likely did very well with his interviews with teams, showing that he's a value in the locker room as well. This clears up Mills' injury questions Not sure enough people saw Dugar's post, as it seems very much like Mills could be ready for the season to start. That would be great news for both parties, and most likely played a part in Seattle picking him. Mills has versatility During his Notre Dame career, Mills played all along the defensive line, and he has the skill set to do the same in the NFL. The Seahawks most likely will bring him along a bit slower than others, but he could end up getting snaps on the inside and outside.

Seahawks trade back with Browns, capping off mad flurry of activity in 5th round

Seahawks trade back with Browns, capping off mad flurry of activity in 5th round If you're like me, your head is probably still spinning from the flurry of trades the Seattle Seahawks have just completed in the 4th and 5th rounds of the 2025 NFL draft. Things kicked off right before Seattle's original 4th round selection, No. 137 overall, which they gave to the New England Patriots in exchange for No. 238 overall in the 7th round. Then the Seahawks trade quarterback Sam Howell to the Minnesota Vikings and swapped 5th round picks to move up to No. 142 overall. With that selection, they chose Notre Dame defensive tackle Rylie Mills. But they weren't done there, as Seattle then traded No. 144 overall to the Cleveland Browns. The Seahawks received pick No. 192 overall, which is a 6th rounder. Seattle was not originally slated to be in the 6th round today. We can all take a deep breath and relax... for now. General manager John Schneider and his team clearly ate their Wheaties today. Interestingly enough, the pick the Seahawks gave to Cleveland was then used by the Browns to select quarterback Shedeur Sanders, ending his shocking and unprecedented fall from grace in this draft.

Notre Dame defensive lineman goes in fifth round of 2025 NFL Draft

Notre Dame defensive lineman goes in fifth round of 2025 NFL Draft Rylie Mills is headed to the Seattle Seahawks. Rylie Mills, a defensive lineman for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, is heading to the NFL. Mills has been picked by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2025 NFL draft. Mills is the fourth player chosen in the fifth round, and 142nd pick overall. The Lake Bluff, IL native had 7.5 sacks in 2024, and he had 37 tackles, 19 of which were solo. His five seasons in South Bend came to an end in the first round of the College Football Playoff against Indiana, when he suffered a knee injury. He likely fell a bit in the draft due to the injury, but Mills still has the chance to be a force in the NFL, especially if he's recovered fully. Congrats to Rylie Mills! Seahawks draft Notre Dame defensive DT Rylie Mills at No. 142 overall

Seahawks draft Notre Dame defensive DT Rylie Mills at No. 142 overall The Seattle Seahawks addressed their defensive line at the top of the fifth round by selecting Notre Dame defensive tackle Rylie Mills at No. 142 overall. Originally, this selection was held by the Minnesota Vikings, but the Seahawks traded quarterback Sam Howell (as well as swapping their fifth rounder, No. 172) for the right to move up for Mills. Seattle's defense took a tremendous leap forward in 2024 under first year head coach Mike Macdonald, and now they will be trying to build on successes from last season. There's no such thing as adding too much defensive line help, and the Seahawks believe Rylie Mills fits this description. Mills spent all five years of his collegiate career with the Fighting Irish, slowly working his way up from being a backup to a full-fledged starter and team captain. Mills started all 13 games in 2023 and played in 13 games for Notre Dame in 2024, but missed the final three playoff games - including the National Championship against Ohio State - due to a knee injury. In his career, Mills recorded 131 total tackles (26 of which were for a loss) and 17 sacks. Here is what Mills' official NFL draft profile has to say about him:

Notre Dame star awaits NFL Draft shot despite ACL injury cutting season short

Forgotten former Notre Dame star Rylie Mills is heading into this week's 2025 NFL Draft full of optimism despite still being on the road to recovery from his season-ending injury in December. The defensive lineman finished his collegiate career with 131 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 17 sacks in 62 games for the Fighting Irish as he brought an end to an impressive career in South Bend last season, playing an important role in helping Marcus Freeman's side reach the College Football Playoff. However, disaster struck during Notre Dame's first round tie with Indiana on December 21, 2024, with Mills tearing his ACL in the midst of the 27-17 win and missing the following three games as a result , playing no part as the Irish defeated Georgia and Penn State to advance to the National Championship game. Having been out of action for the past four months, the 23-year-old is now hoping and praying that someone is still willing to take a chance on him . That's because, aside from the obvious with regards to his injury, Mills has been unable to work out at the Combine or Pro Days, instead watching from the sidelines as his competition made the most of showing NFL decision makers exactly why they should draft them. In Mills' case, he has to hope his film speaks for itself. "It's not my favorite part," Mills told Irish Sports Daily about being unable to demonstrate his skills at the workouts. "I think it's tough having to watch everyone else compete. That competitive part of me is really on fire right now. I want to get out there. I have a great support system. The best part is I go back to my tape and I can look at that, which has been helpful." With the realization that he couldn't flex his athletic prowess, Mills dove headfirst into the strategic aspects of the sport, pouring hours into defensive analysis and benefitting from the insights shared by former Notre Dame linebacker Jack Kiser, with whom he collaborated closely to master the intricacies of coverages and schemes. "It was great," Mills shared enthusiastically. "I got to show what I knew. Shoutout to Jack for helping me with the coverage. I was able to go up and draw up some stuff. It ultimately helped me understand the game better. I had this free time doing rehab and interview prep, so it helped me get a better understanding and feel more confident." Although unable to participate, Mills was present at Notre Dame's Pro Day last month to cheer on his former teammates, soaking in the camaraderie and in what was very likely their last collective appearance on the field. "It's fun," Mills beamed. "It's great seeing everyone together. For me, it's a celebration of everyone's hard work during the season. They got to compete and show what they've done." As the week unfolds, Mills anxiously anticipates the location where his professional saga will unfold while steadfastly pursuing his rehabilitation objectives. "I'm just starting to run," he shared. "All I do is walk. I walk six miles a day now. I'm out there Forrest Gumping it. If I can get running, that'd be great."
