Kavitha intensifies political activity, plans protest on June 4 against notice to KCR over Kaleshwaram fiasco
HYDERABAD Intensifying her political activity after making her 'discontent' against a few key leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) clear, party MLC and president of Telangana Jagruthi K. Kavitha announced a protest (deeksha) on June 4, against a notice to former Chief Minister and her father K. Chandrasekhar Rao by the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) on the Kaleshwaram project row. She inaugurated the new office of Telangana Jagruthi near her residence at Nandi Nagar, Banjara Hills (shifted from Ashok Nagar) on Saturday. 'KCR had ruled Telangana for over nine years keeping the interests of the State in mind and it is unfortunate that a person (A. Revanth Reddy), who had never said 'Jai Telangana' (slogan hailing Telangana) in his life has become the Chief Minister,' she said. She sought to know whether notices were issued to KCR for irrigating lakhs of acres with Kaleshwaram water or for introducing innovative schemes such as Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima. The protest on June 4 would be held at Indira Park. Interestingly, BRS has not planned any such protest so far. Stating that a person who had never paid tributes to martyrs, had no moral right to be the Chief Minister of Telangana, she demanded that the government rename the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme in the name of either Srikant Chary or Kaloji Narayana Rao or P.V. Narasimha Rao, since Rajiv Gandhi had no connection with Telangana. What's CM's stand on Banakacherla On the plans of Andhra Pradesh to divert Godavari water to Krishna and Penna basins in the name of Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project, undermining the riparian rights of Telangana, she alleged that Mr. Revanth Reddy had not spoken a word about it so far since he was indebted politically to AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Seeking to know why Mr. Revanth Reddy had gone so voiceless on the issues when neighbouring AP was using all its might to harm the rights of Telangana, Ms. Kavitha expressed doubts whether he was working for the interests of AP. The Centre had proposed Godavari-Cauvery interlinking from Inchampalli to deny the rightful share to Telangana against the proposal of then Chief Minister KCR to take it from Thupakulagudem, that too after meeting the present and future needs of Telangana. She demanded that Mr. Revanth Reddy make a clear statement on the issue on June 2 (Telangana Formation Day), and call for a meeting of the Apex Council to discuss it.

Harish slams Telangana govt over hydel project in Himachal
Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao on Friday slammed the Congress for investing Rs 6,200 crore in a hydel power project in Himachal Pradesh through TG Genco, while failing to implement basic welfare schemes in Telangana. He accused the Revanth Reddy govt of betraying the people of Telangana by prioritising a risky, out-of-state venture over the welfare schemes it had promised. Harish Rao demanded deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka to release a white paper explaining the rationale behind the investment and called for a discussion in the Telangana assembly. In a statement, he questioned the basis of Telangana's MoU with the Himachal Pradesh govt, which was signed without a Detailed Project Report (DPR) or TG Genco board approval. "The state has already paid Rs 26 crore as an upfront premium and is set to pay another Rs 26 crore, raising serious concerns about financial transparency. The govt owes the people answers to critical questions — Why is Telangana investing in a 510 MW project that was abandoned by major players such as Moser Baer and NTPC? Why pursue a project deemed unviable for two decades?" he said. The BRS leader said the state govt had failed to fund critical schemes in state, including farmer loan waiver, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, Asara pensions, Mahalakshmi, student fee reimbursements, and employee pensions, all while claiming a lack of funds or loans. "How can a govt that says it cannot secure loans justify spending Rs 6,200 crore in another state?" he questioned.

BRS holds govt. responsible for heat-stroke deaths of farmers waiting for disposal of paddy
HYDERABAD Senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former minister T. Harish Rao has held the Congress government responsible for the increasing number of heat-stroke (sunstroke) deaths of farmers while guarding their harvested paddy, waiting for procurement by the government. Terming them deaths due to government negligence, the BRS leader said the farmers were being made to wait for weeks to dispose of their produce at the procurement centres. The process was going slowly due to the delay in shifting the paddy stocks from the procurement centres to the rice mills. He demanded that the government pay ex gratia of ₹25 lakh each to the families concerned. He listed out some of the farmers' deaths due to heat-stroke, waiting at their harvested paddy heaps, with the latest being that of G. Kishan at Pochampally in the Mahabubabad district. He also cited the examples of such deaths in Jagitial, Mahabubabad, Jangaon and other districts. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he claimed that the procurement of paddy had not crossed 40 lakh tonnes even in the third week of May, against the government's promise to procure 70 lakh tonnes. The farmers were not getting the amount for their produce even 10 days after disposal, and about ₹4,000 crore payments were due for paddy procured so far. The farmers did not get anything out of ₹512 crore bonus this season. He observed that the government was getting its priorities wrong as instead of going round the procurement centres, the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues were busy going round the venue of the Miss World pageant. The Chief Minister did not find time to review agriculture even once so far, Mr. Harish Rao said. The BRS leader ridiculed Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka's statement that payment of Rythu Bharosa would go on round the year forgetting the promise of the party that it would be paid well in advance of the commencement of every agricultural season. Even landholders up to 3 acres did not receive the support completely so far and the promise of enhancement of amount to ₹7,500 per acre per season was also not kept. He sought to know why AICC leader Rahul Gandhi was silent on the promises made as part of the Warangal Rythu Declaration as except for partial implementation of a few, a majority of them remain unfulfilled so far. He also faulted the government for not paying the premium for Rythu Bima due from February.

T to unveil 2 initiatives for farmers today; 1 by Centre, other by state
1 2 Hyderabad: Farmer ID project , initiated by the central govt, is set to be launched in the state on Monday. Each farmer will be assigned an 11-digit unique ID, through which their land type, cultivation practices, and personal details will be digitally recorded by the govt. With the 'Farmer ID', they would be able to access all cultivation details in a single click. The unique ID would be mandatory for accessing central govt schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi , Soil Health Card and Fasal Bima Yojana. However, the state agriculture department clarified that the 'Farmer ID' was not required for state schemes such as Rythu Bharosa and Rythu Bima. Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo The 11-digit 'Farmer ID' would include information such as the farmer's name, Aadhaar, mobile number, land ownership passbook details, land type (e.g., red soil, black soil, wet, dry), survey numbers, and information regarding crops cultivated. Agricultural extension officers (AEOs) have already received training to carry out this initiative. The AEOs would begin collecting these details from farmers across the state and record them in a special app developed by the agriculture department. Once the details are entered into the app, an OTP (one-time password) will be sent to the farmer's mobile. After entering the OTP in the app, the 11-digit 'Farmer ID' would be generated. In the event of natural disasters, entering the ID would provide immediate access to the farmer's cultivation details. This initiative eliminates the need for repeated document submissions and paperwork. According to Rythu Bharosa data, there were over 70 lakh farmers in the state, with approximately 32 lakh benefiting from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Meanwhile, as part of the state's 'Scientists at the Farmer's Doorstep' programme, 50 teams, each consisting of four scientists, would visit 1,200 villages – one village a week over the next six weeks. The teams would prepare farmers for the 2025 monsoon season. Nodal officers from the agriculture department would be appointed to oversee this programme. The state govt is implementing the programme in collaboration with scientists from Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University to educate the farming community on agricultural matters.
