What To Know Citing people with knowledge of the talks, Reuters reported on Thursday that Vietnam's Public Security Ministry has agreed to acquire two helicopters from Lockheed Martin as Vietnamese pilots have been training with the U.S. defense giant's S-92 helicopters. According to Lockheed Martin, this type of helicopter is capable of performing a range of missions, including offshore energy transport, search and rescue, and airline operations. A total of 28 countries operate the S-92 helicopter for both civilian and military purposes. In response to a Newsweek request for comment, Lockheed Martin said questions regarding Vietnam's defense purchasing deliberations or decisions should be directed to the Vietnamese government. The U.S.-based defense analysis website 19FortyFive reported in April—citing sources—that Vietnam is expected to buy 24 F-16 fighter jets, also manufactured by Lockheed Martin, to supplement its combat aircraft fleet, which is composed mainly of Russian jets. Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) shares are trading higher on Friday. Lockheed's Sikorsky disclosed a long-term deal with Bristow Group, Inc. (NYSE:VTOL) to enhance support for Bristow's S-92 helicopter fleet. This agreement will provide improved support for Bristow's more than 60 S-92 aircraft. These aircraft are used in crucial sectors like offshore energy and search and rescue (SAR) worldwide. The long-term package includes Sikorsky's Total Assurance Program (TAP), which offers Bristow predictable aftermarket support for its S-92 fleet, minimizing the risk of unexpected costs. : The TAP package provides Bristow's global fleet with Power-by-the-Hour (PBH) for offshore energy and SAR helicopters, covers over 90% of replacement parts, offers enhanced global support via Sikorsky's FSL/FSR network, and grants access to the Sikorsky360 customer portal for parts, service, and aircraft data. On Tuesday, the company reported a 4% year-over-year increase in net sales to $18 billion, beating the consensus of $17.8 billion. It clocked a GAAP EPS of $7.28, beating the consensus of $6.32. As of March 31, Lockheed Martin had cash and cash equivalent of $1.80 billion. (NYSE: VTOL), the global leader in innovative and sustainable vertical flight solutions, today announced a long-term agreement to provide enhanced support for Bristow's S-92® helicopter fleet. This agreement deepens the decades-long collaboration between the two companies and provides enhanced support for Bristow's more than 60 S-92 aircraft operating in key markets around the world, including offshore energy and search and rescue (SAR). The long-term package extending into the next decade includes Sikorsky's Total Assurance Program (TAP), which provides Bristow with continued aftermarket support to operate its S-92 fleet within a known budget, reducing the risk of unplanned costs. This agreement reflects Sikorsky's continued commitment to the commercial market and investment in the S-92 platform, which is well-positioned to support the increasing demands of deepwater operations. Sikorsky recently unveiled the S-92 Phase IV main gearbox featuring an auxiliary lubrication system that automatically engages in the event of primary oil pressure loss, eliminating the need for immediate landing and allowing operators to safely reach their destination. This revolutionary solution has been validated through more than 800 hours of rigorous testing, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification is anticipated in 2025. Sikorsky also increased scheduled inspection intervals for the S-92 helicopter and offered a one-time life extension for specific main gearbox housings. These enhancements eliminate more than a full year of downtime caused by inspections and allow operators to safely keep their aircraft in service and generating revenues longer. The earned life credit is up to 1,200 hours / 3,600 ground-air-ground cycles, representing an additional 12 to 18 months for an average S-92 offshore oil operator and more than 24 months for others.
