Marking an improvement, 204 students clear NEET examination in 2025
In the NEET-UG examination results which were released on June 14, of the total 411 students from government and government-aided schools who appeared for the examination, 204 students has passed the examination.
As per official data, 260 students from government schools and 151 students from government-aided schools took the entrance examination this year.
Of them, 204 students, secured scores above 113, which was fixed as a cut-off score.
S. Vennila Devi, NEET Madurai revenue district coordinator, said that, unlike last year when only a crash course was conducted for 40 days, this year, schools themselves conducted regular classes throughout the year.
This has marked a significant improvement in the performance of students, as the students had enough time to prepare for the entrance examination alongside their board exams, she added.
Though the total number of government and government-aided students who took the examination this year has gone down by about 100, the results were encouraging as the eligible students last year were 192 and it is 204 this year, she stated.
Last year, eight students secured admission for MBBS and two for BDS, she said.
'Though we are not sure about this year, based on students' marks and cut-offs, we expect at least 10 students to get into medical colleges,' Ms. Vennila Devi noted.
Aligning with the overall NEET performance trend, in Madurai too, it was the second attempters who have mostly passed the examination, she pointed out.
R. Kannika, a student of government model girls higher secondary school, who passed out of school in 2024, and has cleared NEET in her second attempt by scoring 539 marks this year, said that she took a year break to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.
Even when her NEET score was 520 last year, she was eligible only for private colleges, but, due to the fee structures of those colleges, she decided to go for another try aiming for government medical college.
'As my father is a work man in a private company in Madurai, he cannot afford to pay ₹10 lakh fee, so, I was confident that I would crack if I tried one more time,' she added.
Another student, R. Priyanka of the same school, a second attempter, said that her score in the previous year was 252 and after undergoing coaching for a year, she has scored 466 this year.

Knowing her lifelong dream, she said her father supported her through his meagre earnings to take a year off and prepare for the NEET examination.
'My teachers said that as I am eligible for the 7.5% reservation I would secure a medical seat this year,' she added.
During an event at government model girls higher secondary school, Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P. Moorthy distributed laptops to six students who cleared NEET and one students cleared Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
The students were Kannika (539), Jaga Sreema (522), Priyanka (466), Shivani (414), Sruthi (350), Ragavi (310) and Rishavarthini who cleared JEE and CLAT.
