Saints dominate tournaments with triple gold wins
Saints' sports teams have once again showcased their talent and determination, bringing home three gold medals and one silver from the recent SACSSA tournaments held in May.
Netball Triumphs Across the Board
The junior netball teams delivered outstanding performances at the SACSSA Junior Netball Tournament on Saturday, 31 May. The u/9 team claimed gold in a tense 4-3 final against Westville, showing remarkable composure, teamwork, and grit under pressure. Their victory is a credit to Coaches Ivan, Claudio, and Wame, whose guidance and dedication have been instrumental in developing the young players.
Not to be outdone, the u/11 netball team also impressed, earning silver after a series of hard-fought matches that demonstrated their skill and sportsmanship.
Meanwhile, a historic win came earlier in the month for our High School u/17 netball team at the SACSSA Senior Netball Tournament on Saturday, 17 May. For the first time in Saints' history, the u/17s secured the gold medal after a thrilling 8-7 final win over Rabboni. The match was clinched in dramatic fashion with a last-second save by goalkeeper Gigi Padi. Saints Sports Coordinator Claudio Lucas praised the team's disciplined preparation and spirit, highlighting this milestone as a testament to the school's growing netball programme.
'In the future we want to grow Netball at Saints by playing in more competitions against top level schools. We have invested a lot in our coaches as well to get them to the next level. We want to play in the Super League against the best in North-West,' stated Lucas.
Soccer Stars Make Their Mark
The u/19 girls' soccer team made Saints history once again by winning the SACSSA Senior Soccer Tournament for the third consecutive year on Saturday, 24 May. It was an all-Saints final, with the B-team edging out the A-team in a gripping extra-time finish, thanks to a decisive goal by Tshwanelo Mathang. Coach Dikeledi applauded the girls' determination, saying, 'We wanted to change the narrative… The girls had a point to prove.'
The u/15 boys also delivered, conceding just one goal throughout the tournament. Despite a narrow loss in the penalty shootout, they finished fourth overall, highlighting the depth of talent across all age groups at Saints.
