Clean mission projects in Kanpur under inspection
Kanpur: A team from IEC is scheduled to arrive in the city to examine the work executed under Swacch Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) on Friday, June 13. The team members will inspect and review around a dozen projects associated with the Clean India Mission.
During their two-day visit they will prepare a report after observing the sanitary activities in detail.
In addition, the team will seek feedback from at least ten citizens on camera. Kanpur's swachchata ranking for the year 2025-26 will be released based on the findings. Projects like shelter homes, vending zone, kanha cow shelter home, ABC centre, Kalyan Mandap, sewerage, E pathshala, water supply, rain harvesting system, open gym, Palika sports stadium, Nana Rao park, visitors gallery convention centre, among others, have been raised by Kanpur Municipal Corporation under the Clean India Mission.
The visiting team will review each of these with the mayor and the municipal commissioner.
On Wednesday, before the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) team's arrival, municipal commissioner Sudhir Kumar visited the city to assess the sanitary conditions himself. He inspected the nullah cleaning work, futsal ground, and ongoing road constructions under the C M Grid scheme. He reprimanded the zonal officer when he saw the Fazal ganj garbage dump, noting that drains were choked with plastic bags.
He directed the zonal official to maintain quality during sanitary works. Subsequently, he observed the cleaning at Rafaka nullah near Vijay Nagar crossing, where the nullah was being de-silted by machine and instructed officials to clean the lower bed thoroughly.
Executive engineer SAF Zaidi reported the presence of a fish market near Vijay Nagar crossing, causing fish waste to be dumped into the nullah, hampering proper cleaning and causing foul odours. The municipal commissioner ordered the removal of the fish market. At Karrahi, he reprimanded the zonal sanitary officer after observing heaps of rubbish on both sides of the road and behind the police station. He also inspected CM grid roads, directing that green belts be established prior to the rains and tree plantation conducted.
He instructed that all houses in the area be connected to the sewer line.
