Sandisk has announced a major leap in storage technology with the demonstration of its high-capacity 256TB1 NVMe enterprise SSD. This innovation was made possible through Sandisk's new enterprise-grade UltraQLC™ platform, delivering breakthroughs in capacity, performance, and power efficiency.
The company revealed that the platform integrates BiCS8 QLC CBA NAND, custom controllers, and advanced system-level optimizations. It is built to support evolving workloads and business demands in the AI era.
The new SANDISK® 256TB1 NVMe™ SSD is designed for data-intensive and AI-driven workloads. These include data ingestion, preparation, and fast AI data lakes, all with improved performance and lower power usage. Sandisk also highlighted the SSD's role in reducing TCO for hyperscale cloud environments.
Khurram Ismail, Chief Product Officer at Sandisk, stated, 'Our UltraQLC™ platform is the result of years of work to develop a flexible architecture that achieves extraordinary capacities and maximum performance while maintaining efficiency.'
The SANDISK® UltraQLC™ 256TB1 NVMe™ SSD aims to set a new benchmark for hyperscale flash storage. It features: Direct Write QLC, enabling power-loss safe writes without SLC buffering
BiCS8 2Tb QLC die, which doubles storage density
Dynamic Frequency Scaling, projected to offer up to 10% higher performance per power level
Scalable multi-core controller, ensuring high throughput and endurance
Data Retention (DR) profile, which reduces DR recycles by up to 33%, boosting drive reliability
The SANDISK® SN670 128TB1 NVMe™ SSD and UltraQLC™ 256TB1 NVMe™ SSD will be available in U.2 form factor in the first half of 2026. Additional form factors will follow later in the year.
