ED raids Siddartha institutions linked to Karnataka HM Parameshwara

BENGALURU: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Wednesday reportedly raided the premises of educational institutions belonging to Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara, creating ripples in political circles. The opposition BJP linked it to actress Ranya Rao's gold smuggling case, while senior Congress leaders strongly condemned the ED action, terming it a politically motivated move. 'ED, which was investigating Ranya Rao's case for the last 2-3 months, might have had some credible information,' BJP spokesperson Prakash Shesharaghavachar told the media, linking it to the case of gold smuggling by Ranya Rao, who is in custody. ED officials simultaneously raided Siddhartha medical colleges and hospitals at Tumakuru and Nelamangala, on Bengaluru outskirts, and the engineering college at Tumakuru. The searches started around 9 am and continued till evening. The officials verified documents related to alleged 'hawala' transactions, it is said. ED, however, is yet to make an official statement on the raids and seizures. DCM DK Shivakumar defended Parameshwara, saying, 'I am sure that the home minister is not involved in any such case as he is a decent, simple man. Like anyone who met him, the others (involved in Ranya Rao's case) might have also met him. In no way Parameshwara is involved in it.' AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala came down heavily against Prime Minister Narendra Modi government, terming the raids vendetta politics aimed at Congress leaders. 'The ED raids on the Educational Institutions of Karnataka's Home Minister, Dr. G. Parameshwara, one of the tallest SC Leaders, is a frustrated reaction of BJP & Modi Govt to giving of ownership rights to 1 Lakh SC-ST families yesterday at Hospet. The constant assault on Constitution and leaders of SC-ST-OBC communities across India has become a habitual pattern. The revenge seeking against Dr G Parameshwara is part of this sinister design,' he posted on X.

"INC condemns politics of harassment, vendetta": Jairam Ramesh attacks Centre over ED raids on G Parameshwara

New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that the party strongly condemned the raids by the Directorate of Enforcement on Karnataka Home Minister and senior political leader G Parameshwara on Wednesday. Ramesh accused the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi-led centre, of politics of 'harassment, vendetta, and intimidation.' In a post on X, Jairam Ramesh posted, 'The INC condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the ED raids on the Home Minister of Karnataka. Dr G Parameshwara is one of the country's senior-most political leaders who has made great contributions to the cause of education, particularly in the weaker sections of society.' 'The ED actions undertaken at the behest of the PM himself reflect the politics of harassment, vendetta, and intimidation of which he is the master. The BJP is clearly nervous and worried by the achievements of the Karnataka government over the past two years. We will not be silenced. We will continue to hold the PM to account for his multiple failures on multiple fronts,' he said. After media reports emerged about the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids at several locations allegedly linked to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala criticised the Karnataka government's recent decision to grant ownership rights to one lakh SC-ST families. In a social media post on X, Surjewala wrote, 'The ED raids on the Educational Institutions of Karnataka's Home Minister, Dr G Parameshwara, one of the tallest SC Leaders, are a frustrated reaction of the BJP and Modi Government to giving ownership rights to 1 Lakh SC-ST families yesterday at Hospet.' The Congress leader termed this development as a 'constant assault' on the Constitution and leaders of SC-ST-OBC communities across the country, adding that the 'revenge seeking against G Parameshwara is part of a sinister design.' Aiming at the BJP, Surjewala said that the ED raids are 'a desperate attempt to cover up the corruption of previous BJP governments.' Earlier, denying the involvement of Home Minister G Parameshwara in any case, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the leader is a very 'decent' and 'simple' man. Speaking to media persons, Shivakumar said, 'I am sure that in no way my Home Minister is involved in any case. He is a very decent and simple man. No way G Parameshwara is involved in such a type of case.' (ANI)

ED searches on educational institutions linked to Parameshwara leads to political storm

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday launched searches at 16 locations in connection with the gold smuggling case allegedly involving Kannada actor Ranya Rao. Some of them are premises of educational institutions reportedly linked to Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara. However, sources in the ED did not name any individuals. 'An educational Trust has diverted funds and made a payment of ₹40 lakh towards the credit card bill of Ranya Rao, allegedly on the instructions of an influential individual. No supporting vouchers or documentation were found to substantiate this payment,' an official said, refusing to name any individual. 'Targeted attack' Meanwhile, the searches at the institutions linked to the Home Minister led to a political storm, with many Congress leaders alleging that it was targeted attack on a senior Dalit leader of the party. 'The ED raids on the educational institutions of Karnataka's Home Minister Dr. The revenge seeking against @DrParameshwara is part of this sinister design,' said AICC general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, in a social media post. Similar reactions came from other senior leaders, including Jairam Ramesh and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Illegal foreign exchange ED sources, meanwhile, speaking on the general nature of searches at 16 locations carried out on Wednesday, said that they included those of 'hawala' operators who 'facilitated illegal foreign exchange movement for gold procurement.' 'Several such persons have admitted to dealings with Ranya Rao,' said an official, adding that the buyers conceded that they bought gold allegedly from her and sold it to jewellers. The locations related to 'accommodation entry operators', under suspicion for providing fake proofs of financial transactions and consultation incomes in Ranya Rao's accounts, were also covered. 'They have confessed to routing funds to Ranya Rao's accounts, without any genuine business transactions,' the official said. It is alleged that one company had purportedly shown Ranya Rao as a supplier of construction labour and paid her 'a few crores of rupees'. She also allegedly indulged in money laundering through other companies.

"Frustrated reaction of BJP": Congress MP Surjewala on reports of ED raids at several locations linked to G Parameshwara

New Delhi [India], May 21 (ANI): After media reports emerged about the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids at several locations allegedly linked to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala on Wednesday termed the action a 'frustrated reaction' by the BJP-led central government. Surjewala linked the raids to the Karnataka government's recent decision to grant ownership rights to one lakh SC-ST families. In a social media post on X, Surjewala wrote, 'The ED raids on the Educational Institutions of Karnataka's Home Minister, Dr. G. Parameshwara, one of the tallest SC Leaders, is a frustrated reaction of BJP & Modi Govt to giving of ownership rights to 1 Lakh SC-ST families yesterday at Hospet.' The Congress leader termed this development as a 'constant assault' on the Constitution and leaders of SC-ST-OBC communities' across the country, adding that the 'revenge seeking against G Parameshwara is part of 'sinister design.' The social media post reads, 'The constant assault on Constitution and leaders of SC-ST-OBC communities across India has become a habitual pattern. The revenge seeking against @DrParameshwara is part of this sinister design. Dr. Parameshwara has run Siddhartha Institute of Technology, Tumkuru that was set up 46 tears ago in 1979 and Siddartha Medical College, Tumkuru was set up 28 years ago in 1988 in the rural hinterland of Tumkuru to light the lamp of education. It is indeed surprising that after 46 years of setting up of this institution, Modi Govt is searching for wrongdoing, while BJP's corruption is being actively investigated by the Home Ministry and Dr. G. Parameshwara.' Taking aim at the BJP, Surjewala said that the ED raids is 'desperate attempt to coverup the corruption of previous BJP governments.' 'The ED raids appear to be a desperate attempt to coverup the corruption of previous BJP Governments and stifle the voice of those who champion the voice of the oppressed. The @INCKarnataka will carry forward with the 5 Congress Guarantees undeterred and will follow up more rigorously the 6th Congress Guarantee of giving ownership of 1 Lakh houses to our brother and sisters of the SC-ST communities. Truth shall win. Satyamev Jayate,' Surjewala posted on X. Earlier today, denying the involvement of Home Minister G Parameshwara in any case, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the leader is a very 'decent' and 'simple' man. Speaking to media persons, Shivakumar said, 'I am sure that in no way my Home Minister is involved in any case. He is a very decent and simple man.
