Scot accused of murdering wife joked he would ‘kill her and move to Thailand'

His lawyer said it was nothing but a "quip" 'KILLING' QUIP Scot accused of murdering wife joked he would 'kill her and move to Thailand' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SCOT accused of murdering his wife while kayaking joked to a friend that he would 'kill her and move to Thailand' if she left him and took half of his pension, a court has heard. Graeme Davidson, 56, was charged over the 2020 death of Jacqueline Davidson in May after arriving back in Australia from Thailand. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Ex-Army captain Graeme Davidson is accused of murdering his wife Jacqueline in November 2020 The ex-Army major had moved there several months after his 54-year-old wife drowned, and later married a Thai resident. Mrs Davidson's death at Lake Samsonvale, north of Brisbane, was initially considered to be an accidental drowning but was later deemed by detectives to be suspicious. Davidson, originally of Glasgow, was also charged with fraud and attempted fraud, in relation to insurance claims he made totalling more than £500,000. He is making a bid for his release on bail in Brisbane's Supreme Court. Defence lawyer Craig Eberhardt told the court the Crown's case against his client was "fundamentally weak". He also insisted the case against Davidson may be "non-existent," at worst and "arguable" at best. The court heard claims that the only piece of evidence the prosecution could refer to in its case was the statement of one of Mr Davidson's friends, relating to an alleged conversation in mid-July 2017. Mr Eberhardt said they were talking about another friend, whose wife had left him on the day of his retirement, took half of his pension and one of the parties moved to Thailand. The court heard the statement alleges Mr Davidson replied and said, "oh sh*t yeah, I'd kill her and move to Thailand too," but his lawyer said it was nothing but a "quip". Mr Eberhardt said when put in context, the statement is "not nearly as sinister as it sounds" and said police were told of this conversation eight years after it is said to have occurred. Mum-of-two 'raped & murdered by coercive ex-fiance' at hotel after agreeing to celebrate his 60th birthday He added: "And so, one wonders if firstly, if that is reliable, secondly, if it's even admissible." Mr Eberhardt argued there was no evidence to suggest Mrs Davidson had told her husband she intended to leave him or take half of his pension. But the court heard some witnesses told police she had raised the idea of separating with him, after she learned her husband had an affair with a local woman during an army posting in Papua New Guinea, which caused "significant matrimonial upset". However, Mr Eberhardt said Mrs Davidson later told friends that she wanted to stay to try and make the marriage work. The Supreme Court was told Davidson did move to Thailand after his wife's death, and remarried in 2022, but was in "constant communication with the coroner's office and police," and came back to Australia twice between when he left, and when he was arrested. The defence will continue its submissions next week where prosecutors are expected to oppose Davidson's application for bail.

"Approximately half-way into the swim portion of the race, swim safety personnel noticed and responded to an athlete in difficulty. "The athlete received immediate medical care while being taken via boat to a designated extraction point on the harbour, where further treatment was administered." Their post continued: "Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the athlete." But before Scotney jetted off to the Big Apple for her unification bout against Yamileth Mercado - she put the hard yards in camp with coach Shane McGuigan. And perhaps the most exhausting task of all was simply getting to McGuigan's Kent gym for the Queen of Catford. She told SunSport: 'Listen, still on the busses and the trains! Two trains, a tube and a bus. Ellie Scotney's Ms TFL out here.' But fortunately, Paul's right-hand man and MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian did check his messages. Scotney, 27, joked: 'He's actually read it now! That's even worse. I'd rather be in his requests. But Nakisa came through and he opened it. "I just dropped Nakisa a message and everything kind of fell into place for me. It's been a bit of a mad one but I'm enjoying every second.' 4 CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS Scotney will find herself somewhat conflicted on Friday's trilogy bout main event between Taylor and Serrano. Katie Taylor takes on Amanda Serrano in dramatic rematch at Madison Square Garden Serrano met Scotney in New York after her signing was announced. And Scotney revealed: "She embraced us and told me she's someone who's like, 'Look what I've done - I want you to go on and do more.' 'She's that sort of character and I think that's shown one, in her boxing and two, how she represents herself outside. 'She's taken us all under her wing and she's a wholesome soul.' Scotney has her eyes on undisputed glory at 8st 10lb - and believes she is in the right place to achieve it - but it starts on Friday at Madison Square Garden. She said: "I think it's everyone's dream and I'm two fights away but I've got a hard fight in front of me July 11th and I'll be going in to make a statement. 'Although I'm a unified champion, I never really got what comes with it. Whereas this is supplying that. 'It's one thing saying you want it, now it's in my hands I've got to run away with it and that's what I'll be doing July 11th.'

I was spending £400-a-month on takeaways – now weight-loss jabs are helping me reach a big goal

JAB JOURNEY I was spending £400-a-month on takeaways – now weight-loss jabs are helping me reach a big goal Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SCOT has told how he went from spending hundreds of pounds on takeaways every month to using fat-busting jabs to improve his health. Michael Monaghan, 40, gained weight during the Covid lockdowns gained over three stone while shielding during the pandemic. He decided to try Mounjaro jabs and said it will be helping him achieve a goal. Michael booked a trip to Florida and wants to shed 18 stone by the time he steps off the plane in the Sunshine State. He told Edinburgh Live: "The deciding factor was health. I was shielding during Covid and I gained a lot of weight. "I think it was 3.5 stone I gained, and then I kept putting on weight because I kept eating. What can I say, I enjoy food. And I basically just decided to start Mounjaro because everything else failed. 'I was waiting for weight management for a year and a half on the NHS, I couldn't believe it.' And he revealed he is actually saving cash after getting the jabs privately. NHS patients in England are able to get fat-busting jabs like Mounjaro but it hasn't been rolled out in Scotland. So Michael decided to take the cash he was spending on fast food and use it on the injections. He added: "England have started doing Mounjaro on the NHS but it's not up here yet, they haven't decided how that's going to happen. I've lost nearly 6 stone in 9 months on fat jabs - trolls call me 'lazy' & say it's the 'easy way out' but I don't care 'So I decided to pay for it privately out of my own pocket, I was spending £400 a month on takeaways. Just Eat, Uber Eats, whatever. "If I take that money and put it into the jag, which is about £140 a month, I'm actually saving money. So that really changed my mindset." And he has already seen some success from his weight loss journey, having shed two stone in just four weeks. He is documenting his weight loss on a YouTube channel where he said he has been inundated with positive comments and support. Michael has set a goal for his trip to the States, where he plans to visit Disneyworld in Orlando, and it comes with a big motivation. He said: "I'm a big Disney fan, I'm an annual pass holder for Paris. I love the rides, and if I don't lose weight then I won't be able to do them all - it's a target. "I've got asthma and sleep apnea, and I've been told if I lose a bit of weight I might be able to get rid of that. 'It was getting uncomfortable, and this was the time to make a change and that's exactly what we've done." Mounjaro works as an appetite suppressant by helping the body produce more insulin. The jabs were initially developed to treat people with diabetes but have been marketed by the weight loss industry. The jabs also reduce the amount of sugar produced by the liver. It also slows down the rate food is digested. Mounjaro jabs were approved for the NHS in December. They are available for patients needing to be treated for obesity. They can get the jabs if approved by their GP. Some patients in Scotland can get them, but the criteria is different.
