Police register cases over provocative SM posts

Mangaluru: Police continue to maintain a close watch on social media accounts posting content that promotes hatred and threatens public peace. A case was registered at Uppinangady police station after objectionable content related to the recent murder of a youth in Bantwal surfaced on the Instagram account 'Maikala Trolls'. The posts were allegedly aimed at provoking communal disharmony. As the content poses a potential threat to law and order, a case was booked on Monday under Sections 353(2), 55, and 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. In a separate complaint filed by Dhanush, a resident of Kuriyala village in Bantwal, it was alleged that a photo of him with a youth who was murdered, originally shared on his personal Instagram account, was misused by miscreants. The image, along with communally provocative captions, was shared on Instagram handles named 'Troll Abraham', 'Maikala Troll', and 'Karavali Official', falsely portraying the complainant as an accused in a murder case and fuelling communal hatred against him. Following this, Bantwal Rural police registered a case under Sections 353(1)(B) and 353(2) of the BNS, 2023. Meanwhile, Mangalore South police have taken cognisance of another social media post that was allegedly inciting unrest. Head constable Manjunath, while monitoring Instagram accounts on Sunday, noticed that the user 'troll_master.__' shared a post threatening public servants and urging people to protest. The post also featured photos of Bharath Kumdel, Sharan Pumpwell, and Srikanth Karkala and included provocative messages calling for a gherao of Mangalore City Police Commissioner's office if the 'three mastermind accused' were not arrested. The post also appealed to the public to gather in large numbers and participate in a protest organised by the SDPI on Monday.

SDPI demands SIT probe into murders of Ashraf, Abdul Rahiman

Mangaluru: Abdul Jabbar, brother of mob lynching victim Ashraf from Pulpalli Village, Sultan Battery taluk, Wayanad district, Kerala, said that the family is yet to get justice even after meeting speaker UT Khader, district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, and chief minister Siddaramaiah. Jabbar was speaking at a protest organised by the SDPI demanding justice for Ashraf and Abdul Rahiman in Mangaluru on Monday. "They (those who lynched Ashraf) played cricket after killing Ashraf. Imagine the mindset of those people. Anyone will try to shift a person to the hospital if found in critical condition. Moreover, they tried to portray it as an unnatural death. We have no other option but to fight for justice," he said. Demanding stringent action against the accused in mob lynching, Jabbar said that Ashraf was killed just for one reason: that he was a Muslim. "We have trust in police here. Take stringent action against the accused in all murder cases, be it the Ashraf murder or any other murder. Make every effort to make this a peaceful district. No such instances should recur in this district," he added. Anwar Sadath S, SDPI Mangaluru Rural District unit president, said that police and the district administration should take a tough stance against all leaders who make provocative speeches. "The murder of Abdul Rahiman would not have taken place if police had taken appropriate action against those who deliver hate speeches. The govt should give a free hand to police. We have faith in police, who are capable of maintaining law," he said. SDPI state committee member Riyaz Kadambu said that the party will continue its constitutional protests against the murders. He urged the govt to form an SIT to investigate the murders of Ashraf and Rahiman.

Hindu groups allege targeted action in Dakshina Kannada

Bengaluru: A federation of Hindu organisations has alleged targeted police action against Hindu activists in Dakshina Kannada district in the wake of the murder of Abdul Rehman in Bantwal on May 27. Representatives of multiple Hindu outfits submitted a memorandum to Director General of Police M.A. Saleem at the State Police Headquarters in Bengaluru on Monday, calling the action a 'one-sided crackdown' and a 'conspiracy to suppress Hindu voices'. According to Hindu Janajagruti Samiti state spokesperson Mohan Gowda, cases were filed against 15 Hindu activists overnight and several others have been issued externment notices. 'Police are entering homes at night, photographing activists without consent, installing GPS devices, and summoning individuals without formal notice. These actions are creating an atmosphere of fear,' he alleged. He further claimed that the Communal Violence Prevention Unit was being used selectively against Hindu groups, while no action was taken against SDPI leaders accused of making provocative speeches. Gowda also alleged that complaints filed by Hindus against hate speech from other communities were being ignored, while swift action was taken against Hindu individuals for comments on social media. 'This clearly shows an attempt to curtail the freedom of expression of Hindus,' he said. Raising concerns over the investigation into the earlier murder of Suhas Shetty, Gowda said there was credible suspicion about the involvement of members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), but instead, Hindu leaders were being booked under pressure from religious and political leaders of the Muslim community. The memorandum also referred to alleged incidents during Abdul Rehman's funeral procession in Bantwal on May 28, including forced shop closures, attacks on journalists, and stone-pelting. The federation said no action had been taken against those involved. Sri Rama Sene founder-president Pramod Muthalik, who was also present during the submission of the memorandum, said that several Hindu leaders in Dakshina Kannada had received threatening audio messages via WhatsApp, allegedly from terrorist groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and originating from countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia. He claimed that Suhas Shetty had received similar threats prior to his murder. Muthalik further said that the sudden mobilisation of large crowds from neighbouring Kerala for protests in Mangaluru was a serious concern. 'Though the PFI is banned, its members remain active under the banner of the SDPI. The government must take strict legal action,' he demanded. The delegation included a number of prominent figures from across the state: Shri Pramod Muthalik (Sri Rama Sene), Advocate Amrutesh N.P., Shri Puneeth Kerehalli, Shri Santosh Kenchamba, Shri Govardhan Singh (Regional Co-convener, Bajrang Dal), Shri Suresh Kumar B. (Joint Regional Secretary, Vishwa Hindu Parishad), and Shri Rajanna (Joint Regional Coordinator, Hindu Jagarana Vedike - South). Also in attendance were Shri M. L. Shivakumar (Vijayanagar), Shri Mallikarjun Raju (Youth for Human Rights), Shri Suresh (Azad Brigade, Ramanagara), Shri Sundresh Naragal (Sri Rama Sene, Bengaluru), advocates Prasanna D. P. and G. M. Nataraj (Karnataka High Court), and Shri Deepak Pawar (Shiva Gharjane Sene, Bengaluru), among others. The federation urged the DGP to ensure that law enforcement acts impartially and that the rights and safety of Hindu leaders and activists are protected.

Sri Ram Sene seeks ban on SDPI, blames Kerala activists for violence in Mangaluru

Sri Ram Sene founder Pramod Mutalik has said that SDPI activists are engaged in communally violent acts and demanded a ban on the organisation. 'We have clear evidence to show that SDPI activists from Kerala are responsible for communal violence in Mangaluru and other places. They need to be arrested. SDPI should be banned, like the PFI,' he said. He was speaking to reporters here on Sunday. He said that caste-based discrimination is deep-rooted and is nearly impossible to eliminate. 'Basavanna fought all his life to eradicate the caste system and establish a new social order. But we have confined him to a caste and we take pride in following the caste system. We are also limiting B.R. Ambedkar to a particular caste. This is deplorable. We should forget all our caste distinctions and announce that we are proud Hindus,' he said. He urged the people not to donate to maths and other Hindu religious institutions. 'They are all well developed. They do not need your support. It is Hindu activists like us who need your support. Most of our resources are spent in fighting cases,' he said. He said that the Love Jihad prevention helpline has received over 5,000 calls in one year. 'We have resolved over 90% of the cases and provided solace to girls. Our activists trace address and phone numbers of Muslim boys who lure girls. They find the girls, convince them of the conspiracy and succeed in reuniting them with their parents,' he said. 'We are not opposed to genuine love. But we will not tolerate fake love and attempts to convert innocent Hindu girls to Islam with false promises,' he said. He said that he is confident that the evil practice of Love Jihad will end soon and the helpline will be closed. Sri Ram Sene South India coordinator Sundaresh Naregal said that the helpline is facing several challenges like logistics, funding and legal problems. All those who claim to be Hindutva leaders do not send their children for protests and agitations. Ordinary activists like us are left to fend for ourselves. Helpline coordinator Basavaraj Goudar said that Sri Ram Sene activists face several problems in battling Love Jihad incidents. Police do not cooperate at all times. Several times, the girls are brainwashed. However, 'we have succeeded in battling all such problems,' he said.
