Liam Doyle named 2025 SEC Pitcher of the Year
Liam Doyle named 2025 SEC Pitcher of the Year Tennessee junior left-handed pitcher Liam Doyle was named 2025 SEC Pitcher of the Year. He was also a First-Team All-SEC selection, along with teammates Andrew Fischer and Gavin Kilen. Hunter Ensley earned Second-Team All-SEC honors and was selected to the SEC All-Defensive Team for Tennessee. Doyle is the third Vol to earn SEC Pitcher of the Year honors, joining Luke Hochevar (2005) and Chase Dollander (2022). Doyle transferred from Ole Miss and became the Vols' starting pitcher for two combined no-hitters. He was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week three times. Doyle is the nation's leader in strikeouts (137), ranking third all time for a single season in program history. He needs 18 strikeouts to eclipse Hochevar's single-season record of 154, set in 2005. During the 2025 regular season, he led the conference in home runs (22), slugging percentage (.779), on-base percentage (.501), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.281) and walks (56). Fischer has reached base for the Vols in all 56 games and has recorded 141 total bases. He totaled 67 runs and a .337 batting average in the 2025 regular season. Kilen, a Louisville transfer, received first-team honors. He missed three weeks due to injury. Kilen has totaled 14 home runs and 119 total bases. His .365 batting average ranks ninth in the SEC, while his .692 slugging percentage is third in the league. Kilen is tied for fourth in the SEC with three triples. Ensley, the Vols' only senior, earned second-team all conference honors. He was also selected to the SEC All-Defensive Team. The center fielder has recoded career highs in batting average (.350), hits (72), doubles (16), RBIs (60), slugging percentage (.573) and on-base percentage (.423). Florida softball's star outfielder named Collegiate Player of the Year Top 10 Finalist The 10 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award were announced on Wednesday, a list that included Florida Gators senior outfielder Kendra Falby. It is the first time the three-time All-SEC selection from Odessa, Florida, has been among the top 10 in her illustrious collegiate career. Falby earned SEC All-Defensive Team honors over the past two campaigns and was the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove award winner in centerfield. The UF standout is also the NCAA active career leader in hits and runs scored, while ranking in the top-12 nationally this season in hits (82), runs scored (63) and stolen bases (35). She leads Florida in batting average for both the overall season (.439) and Southeastern Conference play (.393) this season as well, currently ranking second in program history in career hits (329) and stolen bases (117) and third in runs scored (251). Lauren Haeger (2015) and Kelly Barnhill (2017) are the only members of the Orange and Blue to have won the prestigious award. The top 10 finalists will be narrowed down to three athletes on May 19, followed by the announcement of the 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year before the NCAA Women's College World Series, which is scheduled to take place from May 29-June 6 in Oklahoma City. Zakai Zeigler makes history with 2nd SEC Defensive Player of the Year award win
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Beloved Tennessee basketball guard Zakai Zeigler wrote his name into the Southeastern Conference history books on Monday after another stellar defensive campaign. The SEC released the results of All-SEC voting from the league's head coaches on Monday with three Tennessee Volunteers earning conference honors. Zeigler was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year in addition to earning a spot on the All-SEC First Team and SEC All-Defensive Team. Tennessee duo Barnes, Mashack honored for character and community service Chaz Lanier received the inaugural SEC Newcomer of the Year award, given to a transfer student-athlete who has not previously competed in SEC action, and Second Team All-SEC plaudits. Jahmai Mashack joined Zeigler on the SEC All-Defensive Team. Zeigler becomes the first player in conference history to earn four SEC All-Defensive Team selections. He is also the just the third player to win multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards. The Long Island, N.Y., native averaged 14.1 points, 7.0 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game in SEC play. He ranks fifth in Division I for assists average and is one of five finalists for the Bob Cousy Award.
