Auburn baseball remains No. 10 in latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll

Auburn baseball remains No. 10 in latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll Auburn remains a top 10 team ahead of this weekend's regional play In the latest USA TODAY Baseball Coaches Poll, the Auburn Tigers remained at No. 10 in the rankings despite failing to win a game in the SEC Baseball Tournament last week in Hoover, Alabama. Auburn lost 3-2 to the Texas A&M Aggies in the second round last Thursday. However, the Tigers did receive good news. They were rewarded as the host of the regional round for the third time in four seasons. Joining the Tigers for the Auburn Regional are NC State, Stetson, and Central Connecticut State. The new rankings saw some movement at the top. The North Carolina Tar Heels jumped to No. 1 from No. 3 the week prior. After winning the SEC Tournament Championship over Ole Miss, Vanderbilt jumped five spots from No. 9 to No. 4. Ole Miss saw a big jump going up five spots with a ranking of No. 15. LSU dropped from the No. 1 ranking to No. 3 after their semifinal exit to Ole Miss in a 2-0 loss. The remaining SEC teams in the rankings were Texas (No.2), Arkansas (No. 5), Georgia (No. 6), Tennessee (No.16), Florida (No. 18), and Alabama (No. 20). The Tigers struggled with the bats in their 3-2 loss to Texas A&M. Auburn only had six hits and did not score a run until the fifth inning. Lucas Steele and Eric Snow did hit two home runs in the game. Auburn will enter their regional game against Central Connecticut on Friday losing three of four games. They previously had been playing well, winning five games in a row. The game against Central Connecticut will be broadcast on ESPN+ with a start time of 6 p.m. CT. Georgia baseball rises in rankings ahead of NCAA Tournament

Georgia baseball rises in rankings ahead of NCAA Tournament The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team is ranked No. 6 in the May 26 edition of the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll. Georgia rose two spots in the poll, but was eliminated from the SEC Baseball Tournament in their first game against Oklahoma. Georgia is the No. 7 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs will host the Athens Regional and if they win the regional, then Georgia will host the Athens Super Regional. The Athens Regional starts on Friday, May 30. Georgia (42-15) will open the NCAA Tournament against Binghamton (29-24), who won the American East championship. The winner of the Georgia-Binghamton game will play the winner of the Duke-Oklahoma State game on Saturday. The NCAA Tournament is double elimination. What Wes Johnson said of UGA's NCAA Tournament path "I told our guys don't get caught up with what seed we are and focus on we got a game here Friday against Binghamton," said Georgia baseball coach Wes Johnson. "We've been fortunate enough to have a good season and get a top eight national seed. You don't need to get caught up in all the noise about what seed you are and that's how you don't make it out of your regional. We got a good, challenging regional, and we better be ready to play Friday." Georgia's opening game of the Athens Regional versus Binghamton will be played at noon ET (televised on SEC Network) on Friday, May 30. No other team in the Athens Regional is ranked. However, the No. 2 seeded (of the Athens Regional) Duke Blue Devils did receive 16 votes and would have been ranked as the No. 29 team in the country based on the amount of votes they received.

LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson talks Chase Shores no-hit relief outing

LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson talks Chase Shores no-hit relief outing Chase Shores turned in one his best outings of the season in the SEC Baseball Tournament against Ole Miss. In the loss, he pitched 2.2 no-hit innings in relief. The right-hander began the season as the Sunday starter but moved to the bullpen midway through the SEC schedule. In his first full season following Tommy John surgery in 2023, Shores struggled to find his footing. Head coach Jay Johnson called Shores' effort on Saturday "outstanding" and believes the workload in 2025 helped the junior gain meaningful experiences. "I think he just needed time," Johnson said. "The best thing that we probably did for him was start him, get the innings up and experience up. He's obviously incredibly talented and got an incredible head on his shoulders. That's leading to confidence." Shores pitched 18.1 innings as a freshman before undergoing surgery in April 2023. He sat out last season and made his return to the mound on opening weekend. After nine starts, Shores found success as a reliever. Through 54.1 innings, he owns a 4.80 ERA with 57 strikeouts. He hasn't allowed a run in his last three outings.

How far did LSU baseball's RPI fall after loss to Ole Miss

How far did LSU baseball's RPI fall after loss to Ole Miss LSU baseball exited the SEC Baseball Tournament with a semi-final loss to Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers' pitching continued to roll, but the lineup was dormant. LSU was shut out and limited to just two hits all day. LSU's offense had been prone to going quiet at times, but not to that level. Following the loss, LSU still feels good about its chances of earning a top-eight seed in the NCAA Tournament. But the Tigers' RPI took a hit. LSU now ranks No. 12 in the RPI, tumbling three spots from where it entered the day. Meanwhile, Ole Miss jumped six spots, from No. 16 to No. 10. LSU fans shouldn't be concerned. RPI is meaningful, but it isn't everything. According to D1Baseball, LSU is projected to be the No. 5 overall seed. With conference tournaments wrapping up on Sunday, LSU will have to wait to see the bracket. The NCAA will reveal the field of 64 around 11 a.m. CT on Monday. NCAA Baseball RPI Rankings

LSU baseball eliminated from SEC Tournament after loss to Ole Miss

LSU baseball eliminated from SEC Tournament after loss to Ole Miss After holding off a rally from Texas A&M in the quarterfinals on Friday night, LSU baseball fell 2-0 to Ole Miss in the semifinal round of the SEC Baseball Tournament. Jay Johnson used Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson during last night's win, so LSU entered Saturday with its two aces on the shelf. Jaden Noot got the start on the mound. In the top of the first inning, the Rebels got on the board with a solo shot to give them a 1-0 lead. The LSU bats picked up where they left off against Texas A&M. The Tigers failed to even get a hit after the third inning against the Aggies. LSU was held hitless in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the third inning, LSU finally got its first hit as Cade Arrambide hit a single. Chris Stanfield followed that with a single to put runners on first and second with only one out and the top of the order due up. Derek Curiel and Jared Jones weren't able to get a hit, and we headed to the top of the fourth inning still trailing 1-0. In the top of the fourth inning, the Rebels scored again on an RBI single to increase their lead to 2-0. Noot's day came to an end after the fourth inning as Chase Shores entered to pitch. Noot pitched four innings and allowed two runs on three hits, seven strikeouts, and two walks. Shores found himself in a jam in the top of the sixth inning, but Stephen Milam made a great play to bail him out, and he was able to keep Ole Miss from scoring before being pulled from the game in the top of the seventh inning. He finished the day after 2.2 innings. He allowed zero runs on zero hits, three strikeouts, and three walks. Jacob Mayers entered the game to pitch after Shores. As we entered the bottom of the eighth inning, LSU had not gotten a hit since the bottom of the third inning, just like last night against Texas A&M. The difference is, they were behind in this game instead of being ahead. The Tigers still trailed 2-0, and they were running out of chances to make a comeback. LSU hitters went three up and three down, and we headed to the ninth with the Tigers still trailing. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Danny Dickinson grounded out, Jake Brown struck out, Ethan Frey walked, and Josh Pearson entered to pitch hit. Pearson flew out to center field, and the game was over. LSU will now wait to see which teams it will welcome into Baton Rouge for the Regional next week. The hosts will be announced Sunday night at around 7:30 PM.
