'It put a chip on my shoulder': Texas A&M LB reflects on Texas recruiting snub
On Tuesday, Netflix released its much-anticipated college football series, "SEC Football: Any Given Saturday," which featured several SEC teams' journey during the 2024 college football season, including Texas A&M. While LSU, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina were heavily features, the revival of the Lone Star Showdown after the Texas Longhorns entered the SEC last summer was the primary focus during the second to final episode. However, Aggie fans have correctly pointed out that, outside of LSU's 38-23 loss in Kyle Field, every game Texas A&M was featured in was one of the team's five losses, including South Carolina and Auburn, two games that essentially ended A&M's College Football Playoff hopes. Still, the player interviews alone are worth the watch, starting and ending with Texas A&M junior linebacker Taurean York, who has been the team's starting middle linebacker since his 2023 freshman season. York finished the 2024 season with a team-high 82 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and his first career interception, and is considered one of the top defensive prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft. As an underrated prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the Temple, Texas native, grew up a little less than an hour away from Austin, Texas, but did not receive any attention or an offer from the Longhorns, which was further revealed during his Thanksgiving trip back home before facing Texas that Saturday night. "(The game against Texas) for me, is extremely personal. I grew up 50 minutes away from the university of Texas. I was a top-1000 player. They never really called me, they never really showed me any attention. I had a high school teammate who was recruited by Texas and they flew a helicopter all the way down in Temple. My coach called me in there and sat in that meeting with them, those guys wouldn't give me the time of day. It put a chip on my shoulder for sure, but Texas A&M loved me through and through. They loved me for who I was as a player, as a person. That's when I closed the book on Texas." That's recruiting in a nutshell, and even Mike Elko, who was entering his second season as Duke's head coach at the time, tried everything in his power to lure York to North Carolina, not knowing he would inherit the elite defender just a year later. Texas A&M will travel to Austin this season to face a Longhorns team ranked No. 1 in the first US LBM Coaches Poll, this time on Black Friday. The Aggies defeated Texas during two of the last three games in Austin (2006, 2010). But maybe that's what happens when you have to clear out for the phenomenon that is "Wednesday." The horror comedy spinoff of "The Addams Family" is one of the biggest Netflix originals ever, with season 1 making lead actress Jenna Ortega a star. Season 2, part 1, arrives this week, with the rest of the season coming in September. It's not the only must-watch show this week, though. "Stolen: Heist of the Century" investigates a 2003 diamond heist that remains one of the biggest thefts to this day. You won't want to miss it. As already mentioned, "Wednesday" season 2 is by far the most anticipated show or movie on Netflix this week. A big reason that's the case is Jenna Ortega's performance as the iconic Wednesday Addams. Yes, the writing is fun, the murder mystery of the first season is compelling, but without Ortega, there's a chance that this show doesn't work, let alone become a sensation. Now, Ortega is back as Wednesday and she's back at Nevermore Academy. But this season, she needs to solve a murder before it happens, because she might be the one who is the killer. When it comes to college football in America, though, there's one conference that's synonymous with excellence in the sport: the Southeastern Conference. So, before the 2025 season starts, go behind the scenes on the 2024 season with "SEC Football: Any Given Saturday." Watch on Netflix starting Aug. 5 "Love Life" is a tale of two seasons. The first season centers around Darby Carter (Anna Kendrick), starting with a one-night stand she has with Augie (Jin Ha). It turns into a relationship, but it doesn't last, and the season then continues to follow Darby's love life until she finally meets the love of her life. But this romantic comedy show is an anthology series, so in season 2, it starts over again, this time following Marcus (William Jackson Harper), a married book editor who comes to realize his wife may not have been the right person for him. Here's the thing, though: These two seasons were received drastically differently by critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, season 1 scored a mere 63% with critics but a fairly decent 83% with audiences. Then season 2 flipped the trend, scoring an impressive 95% with critics but falling flat with audiences. You'll have to watch both seasons to see which resonates with you more. Watch on Netflix starting Aug. 5 Speaking of rom-coms that critics and audiences didn't see eye-to-eye on, "Marry Me" hits Netflix this week, and if you love a rom-com, audiences argue that it's a must-watch. If you missed this movie when it came out in 2022, here's the rundown. It's based on a 2012 webcomic of the same title and stars Jennifer Lopez as pop superstar Kat Valdez. She is going to marry her musical partner and fiancé, Bastian (Maluma), on stage at a concert in front of her biggest fans, but right before the ceremony is about to happen, she learns he has been having an affair. Enter math teacher Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson), who is at the concert to spend time with his daughter, Lou (Chloe Coleman). He, too, learns of the affair, and on a whim, holds up a "Marry Me" sign. Totally flustered, Kat sees it — and says yes. You'll have to watch to see if they manage to go the distance. When is Netflix's SEC football show scheduled to premiere? Will LSU be featured?
LSU football will likely be featured in a show spotlighting the SEC's most storied football programs. Netflix announced "SEC Football: Any Given Saturday" will premiere August 5, an eight-episode series that goes inside the conference's iconic programs. Fans will gain access to athletes, coaches, coordinators, and staff as they prepare for and play during the 2024 season. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is featured on the show's advertisement poster, pointing to a likely appearance by the Tigers in the series. He, along with South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers, Florida's DJ Lagway, Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia, and Auburn's Cam Coleman, are also on the cover. The series will showcase the SEC's deepest rivalries and game day experiences for everyone inside the programs. Shots inside team buses, locker rooms and stops along the every day lives of players and coaches will showcase the college football experience. For LSU, expect appearances from Nussmeier, head coach Brian Kelly, offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, and defensive coordinator Blake Baker.

SEC football hits Netflix in August
SEC Football will take center stage in a new docuseries coming to Netflix on Aug. 5. Why it matters: " SEC Football: Any Given Saturday" will share a behind-the-scenes look at college football's powerhouse conference during the first year of its expansion to 16 teams. Behind the scenes: Box to Box Films ("Sprint," "Full Swing") will produce the seven-episode doc. Netflix says the series will provide "unfiltered" access to players and staff on and off the field. What we're watching: The teams featured in the series haven't been revealed, but Netflix says the series will spotlight high-stakes games and rivalry week showdowns.
