Selangor FC edge closer to FA Cup quarter-finals with 3-1 win

SELANGOR FC took a significant step toward the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory over Malaysian University (MUFT) at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium. Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim opened the scoring just four minutes into the match with a well-timed finish from Muhmmad Aliff Izwan Yuslan's pass. Alvin Fortes extended Selangor's lead in the 24th minute with a composed finish. Faisal struck again before halftime, putting the Red Giants in firm control. Despite dominating possession in the second half, Selangor struggled to break down MUFT's organised defence. Aiman Danial pulled one back for MUFT in the 82nd minute, denying Selangor a clean sheet. The second leg will be held on Sept 13 at the MBPJ Stadium, where Selangor will aim to secure their quarter-final spot. - Bernama

Kinoshi admits big gap remains between Selangor and JDT

SELANGOR FC head coach Katsuhito Kinoshi admitted a significant gap remains between his team and Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) after a 0-3 loss in the Charity Shield. The Japanese coach highlighted JDT's superior game intelligence as the decisive factor in the match. Despite the defeat, Kinoshi insisted his team will not give up in their pursuit to challenge the 11-time Super League champions. 'Of course there's a huge gap so far but we can't give up. We have to make the effort to approach this JDT,' he said. He praised JDT's tactical awareness, noting their ability to make smarter decisions on the ball. 'They know football much better than us, when to dribble and when not to, which foot to control the ball with, even which part of the body to use for the first touch.' Kinoshi stressed the need for sharper training sessions focused on decision-making and ball control. 'We need tougher training conditions, quicker decisions and more touches of the ball. That's the way to follow and approach JDT.' JDT's goals came from Jairo Da Silva (1st minute), Eddy Israfilov (64th), and Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi (73rd). The win secured JDT's 10th Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup since 2015. - Bernama

Selangor FC coach Kinoshi backs new signings for Charity Shield clash vs JDT

SELANGOR FC head coach Katsuhito Kinoshi believes his team's new signings could be decisive in their Charity Shield clash against Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT). The match will take place at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium tomorrow night. Kinoshi acknowledged JDT's strong home record but remains optimistic about Selangor's chances. He stated that while the new players lack M-League experience, their overall experience should help them adapt quickly. 'We have a lot of respect for JDT, they have dominated Malaysian football and they have many international experiences as well but we believe in our squad,' Kinoshi said. He added that the team has spent six to seven weeks integrating the new signings. Among the new arrivals are Zach Clough, Moses Raj, Willian Lira, Omid Musawi, Chrigor Moraes, and Picha Autra. Kinoshi urged his players to stay composed and enjoy the match. 'Just focus and enjoy the match and by that, I don't mean taking it lightly,' he explained. JDT have won the Charity Shield nine times, including seven straight from 2018 to 2024. The upcoming match is a long-awaited rematch after last season's fixture was cancelled. Selangor withdrew following criminal incidents, including an acid attack on winger Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim. JDT were awarded a 3-0 walkover victory as a result. - Bernama
