ATM issues extra cash, incites chaos

The incident began when a man noticed that the ATM gave out an extra 1,000 rupees (RM50) when he withdrew 3,000 rupees (RM150). The same thing happened with the man behind him and both found that their accounts had not been deducted the extra 1,000 rupees. News of this spread rapidly and people rushed to the ATM to try their luck. The crowd soon swelled and spilled onto the road causing traffic to be held up. Police had to disperse the crowd by beating and pushing them away with batons. Bank officials who were able to finally check the ATM found technical glitches and shut it down. Axia driver carrying car-sized load arrested

ARAVINTHAN THE man who went viral for dangerously driving a Perodua Axia with a load nearly the same size of the car strapped to the vehicle's roof has been arrested. He was nabbed while driving along the Dengkil-Banting road, Harian Metro reported. Sepang District police chief Asst Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said a video of the driver and vehicle was posted on Facebook at 10am on May 19. 'Following the viral video, police managed to locate the vehicle about an hour later on the same road,' he said. Initial investigations revealed that the 59-year-old driver possessed a valid driver's licence and the vehicle has all the necessary documents. 'The driver claimed that he was unwell at the time,' ACP Norhizam said, adding that further checks revealed that the driver had sustained head injuries from a road accident several years ago. The man has since been released on police bail, while the vehicle has been seized for further inspection. > A cattle farmer in Terengganu is all smiles after securing advance orders for 20 premium lembu sado (muscular bulls), including from customers outside the state, ahead of Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations, Kosmo! reported. Student allowed to retake exam after saving friend's life

ARAVINTHAN A STUDENT in China's Shandong province who missed his Gaokao exam after trying to save his friend's life, was allowed to retake the paper, China Press reported. On May 10, Jiang Zhaopeng from Shandong Urban Services Vocational College was making his way to the exam venue when his classmate on the same e-hailing ride suffered a seizure and stopped breathing. Jiang immediately administered CPR as the e-hailing driver rushed them to the nearest hospital. Despite the Gaokao being an important exam which could determine a student's entire academic and career future, Jiang said he did not regret his actions. Many netizens pleaded with the Education Ministry for Jiang to have a second chance at taking the exam. Their pleas were heard as the Shandong Provincial Education Admissions Examination Institute allowed Jiang to retake the exam last Sunday. > A university student in Kuching who tried to recover the money he was scammed through a 'lawyer' only ended up being scammed again. The daily also reported that the 22-year-old first placed RM4,478 in an online investment platform which offered lucrative returns in just 24 hours. He realised he had been scammed after finding out that the platform charged exorbitant fees to withdraw his investment. With the help of a friend, the student contacted a lawyer from Hong Kong who claimed he was able to recover the money. The student followed the lawyer's instructions and transferred a total of RM23,700 to a local bank account before realising he had been scammed.
