Student allowed to retake exam after saving friend's life
A STUDENT in China's Shandong province who missed his Gaokao exam after trying to save his friend's life, was allowed to retake the paper, China Press reported.
On May 10, Jiang Zhaopeng from Shandong Urban Services Vocational College was making his way to the exam venue when his classmate on the same e-hailing ride suffered a seizure and stopped breathing.
Jiang immediately administered CPR as the e-hailing driver rushed them to the nearest hospital.
Despite the Gaokao being an important exam which could determine a student's entire academic and career future, Jiang said he did not regret his actions.
Many netizens pleaded with the Education Ministry for Jiang to have a second chance at taking the exam.
Their pleas were heard as the Shandong Provincial Education Admissions Examination Institute allowed Jiang to retake the exam last Sunday.

The daily also reported that the 22-year-old first placed RM4,478 in an online investment platform which offered lucrative returns in just 24 hours.
He realised he had been scammed after finding out that the platform charged exorbitant fees to withdraw his investment.
With the help of a friend, the student contacted a lawyer from Hong Kong who claimed he was able to recover the money.
The student followed the lawyer's instructions and transferred a total of RM23,700 to a local bank account before realising he had been scammed.

KOTA KINABALU, July 29 (Bernama) -- The owner of two timber lorries was fined RM1,600 after they were found trying to move 59 logs without a removal pass in an operation in Kampung Randagong, Ranau at 1.30 am last Wednesday (July 23). Cops nabbed over alleged RM110,000 bribe to shield drug activities
Pahang MACC director Shukor Mahmud confirmed the arrests of four men when contacted. PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Pahang has arrested two senior police officers and a retired officer for allegedly soliciting and receiving RM110,000 in bribes to protect drug and ketum distribution activities in the state. Bernama reported that a source said the three men were arrested at around 8.30pm yesterday after arriving at MACC's Temerloh branch to provide statements. A fourth suspect was arrested earlier. MACC believes all four colluded in the illegal activity from 2022 to 2024. 'One of the suspects is believed to have received monthly bribes amounting to between RM4,000 and RM5,000 through bank transfers into his personal account, which he then distributed to others,' the source said. One of the suspects had been released on MACC bail after his statement was recorded. The remaining three are currently under a seven-day remand order until Aug 4. Pahang MACC director Shukor Mahmud confirmed the arrests when contacted.

Lorry owner fined RM1,600 for moving logs without pass in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU: A lorry owner was fined RM1,600 after being caught transporting 59 logs without a removal pass during an operation in Kampung Randagong, Ranau. The Sabah Forestry Department (JPS) and General Operations Force (GOP) detained the two lorries in a late-night operation last Wednesday (July 23). Sabah Forestry Department chief conservator Datuk Frederick Kugan confirmed the logs originated from Sipitang district, with royalty payments of RM4,732.70 already made to the state government. 'The commercial value of the logs is estimated at RM31,600. Following the offence, the licensee was fined RM1,600,' he said in a statement.
