Student allowed to retake exam after saving friend's life

A STUDENT in China's Shandong province who missed his Gaokao exam after trying to save his friend's life, was allowed to retake the paper, China Press reported.
On May 10, Jiang Zhaopeng from Shandong Urban Services Vocational College was making his way to the exam venue when his classmate on the same e-hailing ride suffered a seizure and stopped breathing.
Jiang immediately administered CPR as the e-hailing driver rushed them to the nearest hospital.
Despite the Gaokao being an important exam which could determine a student's entire academic and career future, Jiang said he did not regret his actions.
Many netizens pleaded with the Education Ministry for Jiang to have a second chance at taking the exam.
Their pleas were heard as the Shandong Provincial Education Admissions Examination Institute allowed Jiang to retake the exam last Sunday.

The daily also reported that the 22-year-old first placed RM4,478 in an online investment platform which offered lucrative returns in just 24 hours.
He realised he had been scammed after finding out that the platform charged exorbitant fees to withdraw his investment.
With the help of a friend, the student contacted a lawyer from Hong Kong who claimed he was able to recover the money.
The student followed the lawyer's instructions and transferred a total of RM23,700 to a local bank account before realising he had been scammed.

Kitchen damaged in dumpling disaster

The woman, who lives in China's Zhejiang province, intended to reheat the dumpling, which is often eaten to mark the Dragon Boat Festival. Identified only by her surname Li, she said she had previously seen her grandmother reheating dumplings using a pressure cooker. When Li tried to do the same last Wednesday, the pressure cooker exploded and caused a hole in the ceiling. Some of the kitchen tiles cracked as well. Quick-thinking boy rescues siblings from house fire

ARAVINTHAN A SEVEN-year-old boy has been hailed a hero for his quick-thinking action in saving his two siblings trapped inside their burning house in Taman Seri Kota, Alor Setar, reported Harian Metro. In the incident on Sunday morning, Muhammad Danial Fitri ran to a neighbour's house to seek help after his two siblings, Puteri Khaira Irdina, 4 and Muhammad Hakim Zikri, 3, were trapped upstairs. Their father Mohd Nazmi Mohd Hanifa, 30, said the children were alone at home at the time as he was out working at a mechanic shop while his wife, Siti Norziana Yusof, 23, went to a clinic. 'Danial was sleeping upstairs while his two other siblings were in the other room. 'He was awakened by the strong smell of smoke and, upon seeing flames engulfing the lower floor, quickly ran to a neighbour's house to get help. 'They then quickly contacted the Fire and Rescue Department,' Mohd Nazmi said. He said that his family had rented the place for almost 11 years. He also did part-time mechanic work at the house. 'When I got home, I was relieved to hear that my children were safe, but devastated to hear that our Proton Wira and eight of my customers' motorcycles had been destroyed,' he added.
