Community steps up for health and hope in Sharpeville

VANDERBIJLPARK – In a celebration of health, heritage, and hope, the Sharpeville Human Rights Precinct will host the SINAM Wellness Day & Fun Run on July 19, bringing together residents, families, fitness lovers, and community groups in honour of Mandela Month. Hosted by Sharpeville is Not a Massacre (SINAM), a local non-profit organisation dedicated to social upliftment, this year's event is particularly significant as it marks the first Mandela Month since the Sharpeville Human Rights Precinct, old Sharpeville Police Station, and Phelindaba Graveyard were officially designated as Mandela World Heritage Sites by UNESCO – a historic recognition of the area's global significance. The day's programme will include a symbolic Fun Run, interactive fitness demonstrations, health education and screenings, and community engagement activities. Importantly, it is also a platform for giving back. Proceeds from registrations will be donated to provide school shoes and sanitary pads to learners in the Sharpeville community. Director at SINAM, Sechaba Khoaele, says: 'This event is about more than just movement, it is about highlighting the resilience and beauty of a community often defined by its historic pain. The Fun Run is an invitation for everyone to reimagine Sharpeville as a place of unity, wellness, and pride.' Time: Starts at 07:00 Location: Sharpeville Human Rights Precinct Entry Fee: R60.00 Registration: For more information, WhatsApp 084 777 6116 or email [email protected].
