Man jailed for trespassing canteen

Kota Kinabalu: A 19-year-old was jailed two months by the Magistrate's Court, Tuesday for trespassing on a school's canteen. Presley Oliver pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offence at the canteen of SJK(C) Lok Yuk, Manggatal, on June 18, this year, at 8.30pm. The charge under Section 448 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM5,000, or both, on conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Akaash Singh, in tendering the facts of the case, informed the court that Presley was seen behaving suspiciously by the school's security guard before being apprehended and handed over to the police. Police investigations revealed that Presley confessed to trespassing on the school canteen area with the intention of committing a crime, but was unable to carry it out. The magistrate ordered Presley to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

Supriadi Arjo, 41, and Roddi Mahulaha, 43, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to having syabu weighing 0.08gm and 0.12gm, respectively, on April 21 and April 24, in Putatan and Manggatal. Having syabu under Section 12 (2) of the DDA provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, or up to five years' jail, or both, on conviction. The men were ordered to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest. In another case, a 26-year-old woman was fined RM1,300, or jailed one month for having illegal gambling paraphernalia. Disi Johuron admitted to having two pieces of 'Wah Hui' lottery tickets without a licence and RM60 in cash on March 6, this year at 5pm, in front of a restaurant in Taman Kepayan Ridge here. She was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, or a jail term of up to six months, or both, on conviction. The court ordered the seized money to be forfeited to the government.
