Kota Kinabalu: A 19-year-old was jailed two months by the Magistrate's Court, Tuesday for trespassing on a school's canteen. Presley Oliver pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offence at the canteen of SJK(C) Lok Yuk, Manggatal, on June 18, this year, at 8.30pm. The charge under Section 448 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM5,000, or both, on conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Akaash Singh, in tendering the facts of the case, informed the court that Presley was seen behaving suspiciously by the school's security guard before being apprehended and handed over to the police. Police investigations revealed that Presley confessed to trespassing on the school canteen area with the intention of committing a crime, but was unable to carry it out. The magistrate ordered Presley to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

Supriadi Arjo, 41, and Roddi Mahulaha, 43, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to having syabu weighing 0.08gm and 0.12gm, respectively, on April 21 and April 24, in Putatan and Manggatal. Having syabu under Section 12 (2) of the DDA provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, or up to five years' jail, or both, on conviction. The men were ordered to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest. In another case, a 26-year-old woman was fined RM1,300, or jailed one month for having illegal gambling paraphernalia. Disi Johuron admitted to having two pieces of 'Wah Hui' lottery tickets without a licence and RM60 in cash on March 6, this year at 5pm, in front of a restaurant in Taman Kepayan Ridge here. She was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, or a jail term of up to six months, or both, on conviction. The court ordered the seized money to be forfeited to the government. KANGAR: A jobless man pleaded not guilty at the magistrate's court today to a charge of assaulting his grandmother in Padang Besar here last week. The 56-year-old female passenger of the Myvi was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 69-year-old driver suffered minor injuries and was sent to hospital for further treatment. Three other men - two in the Hilux aged 60 and 62, and a 24-year-old lorry driver - escaped unharmed. Eight firefighters from Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station responded to the 2.34pm call and arrived within eight minutes. KUANTAN, June 25 (Bernama) -- A smallholder lost over RM239,000 after being deceived by a syndicate involved in a non-existent investment scheme. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the 37-year-old man was initially introduced to the scheme via WhatsApp, with the so-called investment promising lucrative returns. "The victim then made 41 transactions into 14 different bank accounts from March 22 to June 16, amounting to more than RM239,000 by using his savings and loans from his elder brother,' he said in a statement today.
