Pilikula holds live demonstration of paddy cultivation

Mangaluru: To revive interest in paddy farming among the younger generation, Pilikula Development Authority hosted 'Yantrasri Bhatta Nati', a programme to promote mechanised paddy cultivation. Organised in collaboration with the agriculture department and Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) BC Trust, the programme was held in the Bakimaru field opposite Guthu Mane at Pilikula Nisargadhama. Abraham MK, the regional director of the agricultural mechanisation division of the SKDRDP, handed over seedlings of paddy to Arun Kumar Shetty, in-charge commissioner of Pilikula Development Authority, on the occasion. Shetty spoke about how they cultivate paddy every year in the field in front of the Guthu Mane at Pilikula to educate the public and children about the importance of agriculture. He said that this year, the event is being organised under the joint auspices of the agriculture department and the SKDRDP. Later, he initiated the planting programme by operating the planting machine in the field. A demonstration programme for paddy cultivation was held to create awareness among the young generation. The event was inaugurated by Honnappa Gowda, the joint director of the agriculture department. He said the agriculture department, in collaboration with the SKDRDP, has been conducting many such agricultural demonstrations. Following the wishes of the Pilikula Development Authority, a paddy cultivation demonstration was organised in the fields of Pilikula, he added.

Dharmasthala pattadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade has welcomed the move of the Dakshina Kannada district and the Mangaluru city police in asking every educational institution to form anti-drugs committee to combat substance abuse. In a statement here, Mr. Heggade said the Akhil Karnataka Janajagruthi Vedike formed by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) has been holding awareness campaigns against addiction to alcohol and other substances for the last 33 years. Many prominent personalities have joined hands with him in this initiative of building an addiction-free society. For the last 17 years, SKDRDP has been holding awareness programmes on addictions to tobacco and drugs in educational institutions and has trained 1,145 resource persons across the State. Observing International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as 'Swasthya Sankalpa Abhiyana,' the project has been organising over 3,000 awareness programmes in institutions every year so as to reach at least 3 lakh students. So far, the project has conducted 20,675 such programmes and reached 17.51 lakh students. Everyone, including teachers would be administered the oath of Swasthya Sankalpa on the occasion. The project sets apart ₹50 lakh annually to conduct these programmes, he said.

Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project gets upgraded ISO certification

The National Quality Assurance, London, has upgraded the International Organisation for Standards (ISO) certification issued to Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) from ISO 27001-2013 to ISO 27001-2022. A release from SKDRDP here said the upgraded certificate with regard to information security, transparency, harnessing technology, maintaining banking records, report generation, etc., was presented by ISO representative G.S. Bhargav to the Project president and Rajya Sabha Member D. Veerendra Heggade at Dharmasthala on Tuesday. NQA had evaluated SKDRDP's performance in 109 parameters out of 114 identified ones before upgrading the certification, Project Executive Director S S Anil Kumar said. While over 170 countries were members of ISO, the NQA has been auditing reputed institutions in over 90 countries, including India. He said SKDRD was the first to receive the 2022 certification among charitable trusts in the country. The Reserve Bank of India has mandated that all institutions doing banking business obtain ISO 27001 certification. Consequently, SKDRDP, which has been undertaking banking activities through banking correspondents for members of self-help groups, got its activities audited to avail itself of the certification.
