(Melaka Tengah police Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Police are tracking down the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident that injured a teenage motorcyclist and her eight-year-old brother on their way home from school in Bukit Katil, Melaka, yesterday. Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said the incident occurred at around 1.30pm after the 17-year-old girl picked up her younger brother from SK Demang Hussin. 'The victim was riding her motorcycle along the left lane heading towards Duyong when a car with an unknown registration number suddenly struck them from behind, causing both to fall,' Bernama reported him as saying. The collision occurred shortly after they left the school area, during heavy traffic, as many parents were present to pick up their children. Patit said the teenager suffered minor injuries and bruises to her legs and hands, while her brother sustained a puncture wound to the right side of his forehead, facial cuts and swelling around the eye. Both victims were treated at Melaka Hospital.

According to Sinar Harian, the two girls were on a return trip from eight-year-old Nur Qasyifa Hazlina Mohd Hayider's school when their motorcycle was struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle. 'The collision caused the two siblings to fall and sustain injuries before being rushed to Melaka Hospital for further treatment,' Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit was quoted as saying. Nur Qasyifa suffered facial and eye injuries, leaving a deep wound on her forehead. Police have launched a search for the driver and urged witnesses to assist the investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The incident reportedly occurred around 1.30pm.
