BUKIT KATIL, May 2 — A Year Two student reportedly suffered severe forehead injuries, while her older sister sustained body wounds, after a hit-and-run near SK Demang Hussin, Bukit Katil, Melaka, yesterday.
According to Sinar Harian, the two girls were on a return trip from eight-year-old Nur Qasyifa Hazlina Mohd Hayider's school when their motorcycle was struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle.
'The collision caused the two siblings to fall and sustain injuries before being rushed to Melaka Hospital for further treatment,' Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit was quoted as saying.
Nur Qasyifa suffered facial and eye injuries, leaving a deep wound on her forehead.
Police have launched a search for the driver and urged witnesses to assist the investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The incident reportedly occurred around 1.30pm.
Nur Qarinah Hazirah was said to be riding a Yamaha Ego Solaris motorcycle to pick up her younger sister from school.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the 39-year-old man was arrested at around 5.45pm after being discharged from the hospital, reported Sinar Harian. According to him, the suspect would be taken to the Gerik District Police Headquarters (IPD) to assist in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. 'We are waiting for further instructions from the State Prosecution Director on whether the bus driver can be charged in court tomorrow or otherwise,' he said yesterday. Earlier, the driver, a local man, had given his statement to the police. He had previously received treatment at Taiping Hospital. On Monday morning, KM53, Jalan Raya Timur-Barat Gerik-Jeli near Tasik Banding, a bus carrying 42 passengers was said to have lost control before hitting an MPV carrying a family of four. The chartered bus was on its way from Jertih, Terengganu, to the UPSI campus in Tanjung Malim after the Hari Raya Aidiladha holiday.

IPOH: The driver of the bus involved in the crash that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students in Gerik on Monday will be charged tomorrow. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the 39-year-old man, who was apprehended after being discharged from Taiping Hospital, would be taken to the Gerik Court. "Tomorrow, after Friday prayers, he will be charged at the Gerik Magistrate's Court," he said when contacted today. Earlier, it was reported that police arrested the bus driver at about 5.45pm after he was discharged from hospital. He will be taken to the Gerik police headquarters to facilitate investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. It is learnt that the man was accompanied by three policemen, believed to be from the Gerik police headquarters, when they left the hospital compound. It was reported that the bus driver was among those injured in the crash. Noor Hisam had said the driver sustained injuries to his hand. On Monday, the bus, carrying 42 UPSI students, was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu, to the university's main campus when it collided with a Perodua Alza at Km53 of the East-West Highway in Gerik. Thirteen students died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries in hospital. The driver, his attendant, the other UPSI students and a family of four in the Alza all sustained injuries of varying degrees.

E-hailing rider dragged 15 metres after being hit by bus in Pasir Gudang KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a case where an e-hailing rider was dragged for about 15 metres after being hit by a bus at the traffic light intersection of Jalan Masai Kong Kong and Jalan Berlian 12 in Pasir Gudang, Johor. Seri Alam district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi, Ishak said the accident occurred after the victim ran a red light, leaving the bus driver unable to stop in time. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. "The accident involved a Hino bus driven by a 54-year-old man and a Honda EX5 motorcycle ridden by a 20-year-old man, who works as a part-time e-hailing rider. "Investigations revealed that the incident occurred at around 6pm when the bus was heading straight through a green light from the direction of Kong Kong towards Masai. "Suddenly, the motorcyclist emerged from the left junction at Jalan Berlian 12 when the traffic light was red, entering the path of the oncoming bus. "The driver was unable to brake in time and collided with the victim, who was thrown onto the road and dragged for approximately 15 metres before the bus came to a stop," he said in a statement. Mohd Sohaimi said the rider, who sustained serious injuries, was taken by ambulance to Sultan Ismail Hospital, where he is being treated in the red zone and remains unconscious. The bus driver was uninjured. He also advised road users to remain patient, and to obey traffic rules and regulations at all times. "Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident is urged to contact the police at 07-3864222 to assist in the investigation," he added.
