SIBU (July 24): Rajang Taekwondo Club (RTC) returned with a gold and a silver medal from the recent Korea Taekwondo Open Championships held in Chung Cheon.
Desmond Ting Zhong Xiang, 17, from SMK Bandar Sibu clinched the gold medal after beating compatriot Tan Wei Yao, 16, from SMP Catholic High in the Kyorugi junior (65-70kg) event.
RTC adviser Thomas Tang hailed the result as the duo were in Korea more on an exposure trip.
'Again this is another great achievement for RTC exponents in an international level,' he said.
The outing was RTC second international exposure for RTC athletes following the 9th Asian Taekwondo Championships in Nanjing last year when the RTC squad returned with three bronze medals.
The club is planning to send more athletes for the international level competition in future.
Tang also commended the coaches, Tie Ton Hung and Tie Ton Xiang, and thanked Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang for his financial support to the club. Korea Taekwondo Open Championships Rajang Taekwondo Club
