Vadodara hosts first ‘Prithvi Namaskar' eco-spiritual tribute

Vadodara: Vadodara on Sunday witnessed Prithvi Namaskar for the first time — an eco-spiritual tribute to Mother Earth conceptualised and led by Praveen Maripelly. The event brought together 100 participants from across the country, both in person and online, at the circular FC Arena 360 in Kalali. Participants stood in a circular formation, symbolically offering love and gratitude to the planet. Maripelly, founder of SN Foundation, described Prithvi Namaskar as a 14-step practice combining mindful breathing, chanting, and multi-planar body movements to express reverence for the Earth. "Among these steps, the Bhumi Namaskar specifically invokes a deep sense of appreciation for Mother Earth, who sustains all life," he said. "Unlike traditional yoga practices, this sequence was performed directly on the bare ground — without yoga mats — to symbolise a profound and personal connection with the soil, nature, and the planet's energy. Forgoing mats emphasised humility, grounding, and an embodied sense of interconnectedness with the natural world," he added. What made the event distinctive was that each participant completed the 14-step sequence 108 times, offering their breath, motion, and energy as a sacred tribute to nature. "This was not just a yoga session — it was a moving prayer, invoking gratitude and environmental consciousness," Maripelly said, adding that the practice also served as a call for collective responsibility to protect the planet. 700 people to perform spiral surya namaskar

Vadodara: Around 700 people cutting across ages will mark with spiral surya namaskars on June 20, a day prior to International Yoga Day. Spiral surya namaskar is a dynamic and evolving practice consisting of 124 integrated steps that unfold across multiple planes of movement. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The perform the spiral surya namaskar with Maripelly Praveen, an avid yoga expert and founder of the SN Foundation. They will perform 14 asanas in spiral surya namaskar. "A distinctive feature of the spiral surya namaskar is its opening chant—a two-minute recitation that includes a Sanskrit śloka followed by the twelve sacred names of the sun. This sonic ritual generates positive vibrations within the body, helping to realign energy pathways, harmonise mind-body coordination, and cultivate inner calm," he said. "From this grounded state, practitioners move into the spiral sequence, synchronising rhythmic breathing with fluid, multi-planar movements. By weaving sound (chanting), breath, and movement into a unified flow, spiral surya namaskar preserves the core of ancient wisdom while offering a uniquely modern, integrative practice for the whole body. Each new spiral round begins with this up to two-minute chanting ritual," he said. "Before starting the second or any subsequent spiral, practitioners once again recite the twelve names of the sun. This recurring chant serves as a moment of reconnection—deepening inner awareness and preparing the body and mind for the next cycle of movement," he added.
