Students who qualified NEET and JEE felicitated by Yuvodaya
BHUBANESWAR: The Yuvodaya Institute organised a Achiever's Meet at SOA University here calling upon youths to channel their intellect, vision and determination toward the mission of nation-building. The event brought together students, parents, educators, and dignitaries to honour the meritorious students who cracked the NEET and JEE 2025. Institute officials said the students nurtured and guided by Yuvodaya were felicitated for their outstanding performance. NHRC member Justice Bidyut Ranjan Shadangi, noted neurosurgeon Prof Dr Ashok Mahapatra, leading cardiologist Prof Dr Shishushankar Mishra and former Ambassador Sanjay Panda graced event and lauded the achievements of the students. Yuvodaya chairman Abhiram Dash exhorted the young generation to work for the society and contribute to nation-building. Director Ambarish Dash said every achievement of Yuvodaya's students is a testament to the institution's holistic approach, mentorship and a culture that nurtures both intellect and integrity.

SOA University aims to be one of India's top notch institutions: V-C
BHUBANESWAR: The SOA University is aiming to be counted as one of India's top-notch institutions of excellence, said its vice-chancellor Pradipta Kumar Nanda on Friday. Addressing the foundation day programme of the university, Nanda said SOA has been focusing on quality education, healthcare and focused research, while aiming to be one of the top 10 universities in the country. 'Ranked 14th in the country by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2024, SOA is a category-I university governed by the UGC,' he said. The V-C said over 115 of research projects of the university have been funded by the government. The university has set up 18 inter-disciplinary research centres and 60 laboratories to facilitate the work, he said. Nanda also said that the research publications which were around 300 a few years ago have now increased to 15,800. Around 300 PhD researchers are getting enrolled to the university every year, he said. Speaking on the occasion, director of the Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar Dr Debasis Dash said SOA should think of a project in which researchers from health sciences, engineers and life scientists can collaborate. He also called on researchers to take up projects that are more relevant to the society.

Climate change is reshaping global economy: Foreign diplomats at conclave in Odisha
BHUBANESWAR: Ambassadors and diplomats from eight different countries on Thursday expressed concern over the impact of ongoing climate change and global warming in the world while calling for focused action to save the planet. Addressing a two-day international conclave on 'Climate Change and Global Warming - Issues and Prospects' organised by SOA University, ambassador of Spain Juan Antonio March Pujol said global warming is not a distant threat, it stands as a huge challenge before humanity. Italian ambassador Antonio Bartoli referred to the recent Texas floods saying nobody saw it coming. Italy has also broken the records for extreme weather events, he said. High Commissioner of Seychelles Lalatiana Accouche and Kayshav Tewari, a diplomat with the High Commission of Guyana, said those who contributed the least to climate change were its biggest victims. Underlining that climate change is affecting the economy, IMD director general Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said there is an urgent need for installing early warning systems in regions vulnerable to extreme weather conditions while sustainable development practices should be pursued at the micro level to combat climate change. Ambassador of Uruguay Alberto Guani, ambassador of Peru Javier Paulinich, ambassador of Ecuador Fernando Bucheli and ambassador of Guatemala Omar Castaneda Solares also spoke.

2 from Odisha selected for Yuva Puraskar award, 1 for Bal Sahitya Puraskar
Bhubaneswar: Two from Odisha will receive the prestigious Yuva Puraskar, while another has been selected for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar this year by Kendra Sahitya Akademi. The names, announced on Wednesday, include Subrat Kumar Senapati who won Yuva Puraskar in Odia language for his short stories collection, 'Kadambabana', while Fagu Baskey was selected for the same award in Santali language for his poetry collection, 'Ala Saon inj'. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Rajkishore Parhi was chosen for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his poetry collection, 'Kete Phula Phutichhi', in Odia language. While congratulating the recipients, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi said in an X post, "My best wishes to Rajkishore Padhi and Subrata Kumar Sahabi for the award. This success is not only your personal success but also a matter of pride and honour for the Odia language and literature. May you further enrich the treasure trove of Odia literature with your creations in the coming days." An elated Senapati said, "I am delighted to be selected for the award and my responsibility as a writer will increase after this honour. Through my writings, I try to shed light on the untold emotions of people and characters who were not widely covered in Odia literature, like transgenders, gay and lesbians." Senapati is currently a faculty member at SOA University's Institute of Agricultural Science in Bhubaneswar. Baskey from Bholagadia village in Mayurbhanj district emerged as one of the most promising voices in contemporary Santali literature. He is widely known for his contribution to the digitisation of the Santali language and promoting Santali literature on digital platforms. "I am really happy that my book was selected for the award. This is a recognition of indigenous literature on a national platform," Baskey said. Each award includes a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a citation plaque (memento) and a shawl. A special ceremony will be held in New Delhi where the three will receive the awards.
