MIRI (Aug 12): Twenty-one mathematics teachers from SMK Pujut recently attended a special workshop titled 'Didik Hibur Dalam Matematik' (Fun in Mathematics) at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri (Pustaka Miri) on Aug 9. The workshop, conducted by Deputy Education Officer of Baram District (Learning Sector) Tang Hooi Joo, was coordinated by the National Professional Qualification for Educational Leaders (NPQEL) 2025 batch participant Charles Ling Soon Kiong. It was organised under the school's Program Intervensi SPM Matematik (PISPMA). During the session, Tang shared a variety of innovative and up-to-date strategies on integrating fun and interactive elements into mathematics lessons, with the aim of sparking students' interest and improve their understanding of the subject. Principal Su Yien Jiong, who present as mentor, expressed her appreciation to SOP Foundation for sponsoring the programme, which also supported efforts to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. 'We are grateful for the success of this event as it will help make mathematics lessons more enjoyable and accessible for our students,' Su said, adding that the initiative was aimed specifically at mathematics teachers by equipping them with practical tools and techniques to apply in classrooms. In her closing remark, Su emphasised that teacher participation was crucial to realising the Ministry of Education Malaysia's education digitalisation policy, which includes raising mathematics achievement from Form 1 to Form 5 ― with particular focus on current Form 5 students who will sit for the SPM 2025 written exam at the end of the year. 'Therefore, I urge all participating teachers to always try new innovations and strategies in mathematics, and to apply the knowledge and skills learned during the workshop,' she concluded. education lead mathematics SMK Pujut teachers
