LAWCET, PGLCET to be held on June 5 at 133 centres
Tirupati: Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) Vice-Chancellor Prof V Uma has announced that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the smooth and transparent conduct of entrance examinations for admission into Law courses across various universities in the State. Addressing the media on Saturday, she said the university has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the Andhra Pradesh Law Common Entrance Test (AP LAWCET) and the Post Graduate Law Common Entrance Test (AP PGLCET) on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE). The Common Entrance Test is scheduled for June 5, from 9 am to 10.30 am, with Prof T Sita Kumari serving as the Convenor. A total of 27,253 candidates have applied to appear for the exams, which will be conducted at 133 test centres across the State. Of the total applicants, 19,973 have registered for the 3-Year LLB programme, 4,794 for the 5-Year LLB course, and 2,486 for the LLM programme under PGLCET. Gender-wise, 17,983 candidates are male, 9,269 are female, and one transgender candidate has registered for the tests. Convenor Prof Sita Kumari urged all candidates to strictly adhere to the instructions mentioned on their hall tickets, which include reaching the exam centres well in advance and carrying valid identification. She assured that the university has made elaborate arrangements to ensure the fair and smooth conduct of the exams across all centres. The results are expected to be declared in the last week of June 2025. Candidates and parents are advised to regularly visit the official website for timely updates. University Public Relations Officer Dr N Sree Rajani was also present at the press briefing.

APLAWCET, APPGLCET to be conducted on June 5 in 133 centres in Andhra Pradesh
Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) Vice-Chancellor V. Uma announced that Andhra Pradesh Law Common Entrance Test (APLAWCET) and Post Graduate Law Common Entrance Test (APPGLCET) are scheduled to be held on June 5 (Thursday) from 9 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. Addressing the media along with LAWCET Convenor T. Sita Kumari at the university campus in Tirupati on Saturday, she said that the entrance test will be conducted in 133 test centres across the State. A total of 27,253 candidates have applied for the exams this year. Out of these, 19,973 candidates have registered for three-year LLB course, 4,794 for the five-year LL.B. course, and 2,486 for the LLM programme (PGLCET). Gender-wise, 17,983 candidates are male, 9,269 are female, and 1 transgender applicant has registered. The candidates belong to a diverse spectrum of social categories. The highest number of applications have been received from the Open Category (7,849) and Scheduled Castes (6,770), followed by BC_D (3,675) and BC_A (3,094). The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the university's commitment to ensuring a smooth and transparent examination process. The university has taken comprehensive measures to ensure fair conduct and logistical arrangements across all centres. The results of the exam are expected to be declared in the last week of June. Prof. Sita Kumari urged all candidates to carefully follow instructions issued on their hall tickets, which include reaching the centres well in advance and carrying valid ID proofs. The candidates and parents are advised to keep visiting the official website for timely updates.

NTR remembered for cultural legacy, welfare reforms
Tirupati: Former Chief Minister and legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao was remembered with deep respect on the occasion of his 102nd birth anniversary, observed as a state festival on Wednesday. District Collector Dr S Venkateswar paid floral tributes to NTR's portrait at the District Collectorate on Wednesday morning. Earlier in the day, the Collector also offered garlands at the statue of NTR near the Town Club in Tirupati, honouring the iconic figure who elevated the pride of Telugu people on a national and international stage. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Venkateswar hailed NTR as an ideal personality and a great leader who brought glory to the Telugu community. He noted that NTR's portrayals of mythological characters such as Lord Rama and Lord Krishna left an indelible mark on the hearts of the Telugu people. As the Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, NTR introduced numerous welfare schemes that changed the lives of the poor. He also emphasised NTR's pioneering role in empowering women, including the establishment of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) in Tirupati and his move to grant equal property rights to women. District Revenue Officer G Narasimhulu, along with other officials attended the event. At SVIMS, Director Dr RV Kumar garlanded the statue of NTR and highlighted that it was due to NTR's initiative that the super-specialty hospital was established. He further stated that N Chandrababu Naidu is firmly committed to enhancing advanced medical facilities for patients coming to SVIMS. Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswavidyalayam (SPMVV), which was founded by NTR to empower women through education, also marked the occasion. Vice-Chancellor Prof V Uma and Registrar Prof N Rajani paid floral tributes to NTR's statue and remembered his vision for women's education. Sri Venkateswara University conducted a commemorative programme at the Senate Hall. Vice-Chancellor Prof Ch Appa Rao, Registrar Prof M Bhupathi Naidu, and College Development Council Dean Prof N Chendrayudu spoke on the occasion, recalling NTR's pioneering welfare schemes that benefitted millions. At SV Medical College, in-charge Principal Dr Venkateswarlu highlighted NTR's lasting contributions to the development of Tirupati and Tirumala. Faculty members including Dr Manohar, Dr Jayachandra Naidu, Dr AS Kireeti, and Dr S Subba Rao participated in the programme and paid their respects.

Tirupati hosts ‘Yogandhra 2025' to promote month-long awareness drive
Tirupati: In a spirited lead-up to the International Yoga Day on June 21, a curtain-raiser event titled 'Yogandhra 2025' was held at Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) in Tirupati on Wednesday. The event aimed to generate extensive awareness and momentum for the upcoming global celebration of yoga. District Collector Dr S Venkateswar, Superintendent of Police V Harshavardhan Raju, City MLA A Srinivasulu, Joint Collector Shubham Bansal, and other dignitaries formally inaugurated the programme and participated in a 45-minute yoga session alongside yoga instructors and public representatives. Speaking on the occasion, Collector Dr Venkateswar said that yoga should become an integral part of everyone's daily life. 'While global interest in yoga is steadily increasing, there is still a need to spread greater awareness about its benefits for both physical and mental well-being,' he noted. He added that the state government has declared a month-long yoga campaign from May 21 to June 21 to reach all sections of society. Dr Venkateswar stressed the need to promote yoga in urban wards, mandals, village panchayats, and even in remote areas of the Tirupati district. 'It is our collective responsibility to educate the public about the positive impacts of regular yoga practice,' he said. City MLA A Srinivasulu said that yoga should not be restricted to June 21 alone, but be embraced as a daily routine. He shared that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan plan to mark International Yoga Day with a massive event in Visakhapatnam involving five lakh participants. He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the event. 'After Surat's Guinness record in 2023 with 1.53 crore participants, Andhra Pradesh aims to set a new record with two crore people,' he added. SP Harshavardhan Raju urged people to participate in mass yoga events to enhance the state's prestige. 'Yoga must be made a lifestyle choice by everyone,' he said, echoing the call for widespread awareness. The event was also attended by SPMVV Vice-Chancellor Prof V Uma, Registrar Prof N Rajani, DRO G Narasimhulu, RDO Rammohan, among others.

Tirupati takes first step towards achieving ‘YogAndhra Pradesh'
The district administration on Wednesday launched the curtain raiser for YogAndhra-2025 campaign as a first step towards achieving 'YogAndhra Pradesh'. The event marks the first day of a month-long campaign launched by the government ahead of the upcoming International Yoga Day on June 21 to be celebrated at Visakhapatnam on a massive scale. Tirupati MLA Arani Srinivasulu, Collector S. Venkateswar, Joint Collector Shubham Bansal, Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju, SPMVV Vice-Chancellor V. Uma and others participated in the Yoga session. Mr. Srinivasulu said that many people from across the globe have started embracing yoga to control the body and mind. Mr. Venkateswar urged everyone to make yoga an integral part of life, with a dedicated time slot to ensure a balanced living. 'There is still a greater need to create awareness among the public as the message on well-being through yoga has not percolated to the masses at the desired level,' he said. SPMVV Registrar N. Rajani, District Revenue Officer M. Narasimhulu, Revenue Divisional Officer A. Ramamohan, State Yadava Welfare Corporation Chairman G.
