RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat lauds Tamil Nadu adheenams for preserving dharma, cultural values

COIMBATORE: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat praised the Adheenams of Tamil Nadu for their historical role in preserving dharma and culture, and for imbibing values in the minds of the people. He was speaking during the centenary celebrations of the RSS and Saiva spiritual leader Perur Aadheenam Seervalarseer Shanthalinga Ramasamy Adigalar, at the Thavathiru Santhalinga Adigalar Arts, Science and Tamil College in Coimbatore. Bhagwat, along with Adheenams and other spiritual saints, participated in the Shiva Yagam. In his address, Bhagwat said, 'Hinduism is not merely a religion but a way of life. In today's volatile global climate, Hindu values provide the only path toward peace and harmony. True happiness comes from within and not from external possessions.' Bhagwat expressed his gratitude for the simultaneous centenary celebrations of the Adheenam and the RSS. Further, he said that whenever the world forgets dharma, it is our duty to remind, and we should not translate dharma into English and call it religion. There is no equivalent term for dharma in foreign languages, but the concept of dharma holds meaning in all Indian languages, Bhagwat added. 'Our children must learn their mother tongue. If we lose our language, we lose our tradition and everything that comes with it. Some things must be preserved, and while some ideas may become outdated and need to be removed, our core values should be preserved. We must make our nations prosperous. To do that, we need to be self-reliant. An independent nation must also be a disciplined nation,' he further said. Bhagwat, along with the Adheenams and other dignitaries, was honoured by political figures. AIADMK MLA and former minister SP Velumani, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran, BJP leader K Annamalai, BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan were present. SP Velumani and his brother Anbarasan presented Bhagwat with a silver spear (Vel) and an idol of Lord Murugan.

Velumani says he didn't attend RSS event in Coimbatore

S P Velumani COIMBATORE: Former AIADMK minister S P Velumani said he participated in the centenary celebration of Perur Aatheenam Shanthalinga Ramaswamy Adikalar here on Monday and did not attend the RSS function as he had not been invited to that. He added that false information was being spread that he participated in the RSS function held in the same venue. Addressing reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport on Monday evening, Velumani said Perur Aatheenam had brought pride to the Kongu region. 'We went to attend the centenary celebration of Santhalinga Ramasamy Adigalar as we were invited to it. But we were not invited to the RSS event.' When asked whether a silver Lord Murugan idol and a silver spear (Vel) had been given to the RSS chief to show that the AIADMK and the BJP were one, Velumani said, 'Mohan Bhagwat was invited as a special guest to the Adigalar programme. Since it was held in my assembly constituency, he was given a Lord Murugan idol and spear as gifts.' He said, 'The AIADMK would form alliances with many parties for election. But the party would not compromise on its policy of self-respect for that.' He said Siruvani dam water level had been raised to 50 feet during the AIADMK regime. However, the water level was reduced after a landslide in Kerala and the water level at the dam is not being kept above 40 feet now. 'The water level should be raised to 50 feet immediately, and the frequent water release should be stopped. Otherwise, the AIADMK will stage a protest within 10 days,' said Velumani.

Coimbatore: Thondamuthur MLA and former AIADMK minister S P Velumani received a threat letter from an unidentified person on Thursday, stating that he would be murdered if he failed to leave Rs1 crore in a bag at a waste dumping site located on Kalapatti-Vellanaipatti road between 2pm and 2.30pm on May 25 for his person to pick up. He said Velumani was out of town for 10 days and noticed the letter, which was sent from Kalapatti post office on May 15, only on Thursday. "There will be a bomb blast in Coimbatore before July 30, 2025, and we have plotted to kill you. Our people are stationed near you, and our organization needs money. We have people inside the police department. We have proof of the illegal possession of black money," the letter read. Velumani was asked to pay Rs1 crore to the organization or face dire consequences. Based on the complaint, the Kuniyamuthur police have begun an investigation to trace details of the sender of the letter.
