USA TODAY Sports puts Nebraska at No. 21 in 2025 College Football Re-Rank

USA TODAY Sports released its College Football Re-Rank for the 2025 season, taking a look at all 136 FBS teams and determining the appropriate rankings ahead of the first game of the season. According to the re-rankings, Nebraska is now ranked No. 21 on the list. The Huskers finished last season 7-6, earning their first trip to a bowl game since 2016 and taking down Boston College 20-15 in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl. Although it marked Nebraska's best season since 2016, the team, which finished above .500, fell just short of the final top 25. The Huskers received 23 votes in the AP Top 25 poll and 19 votes in the AFCA Coaches Poll. But USA TODAY Sports placed Nebraska at No. 21, becoming one of seven Big Ten teams to find itself in the top 25 at the start of 2025. The list also includes ten from the SEC, three from the Big 12, three from the ACC, Boise State of the Mountain West, and Notre Dame, which remains independent. The top of USA TODAY Sports' preseason rankings aligns with the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll. Bowl Projections also vary for the Huskers heading into the season, with ESPN projecting Nebraska to play in the SRS Distribution Bowl while CBS Sports projected the team to head to the ReliaQuest Bowl. Regardless of the rankings, the Huskers enter the season with high expectations. Nebraska will open the 2025 college football season on Thursday, August 28, when the Huskers face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Nebraska football faces unique opponent in latest bowl projections

The college football season is almost upon us, and bowl projections are rolling out. ESPN released its list on Friday, and Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach have the Huskers going to the SRS Distribution Bowl on December 31 to face the Utah Utes. This would be a unique matchup. The two teams have not faced each other since 1992, when the Huskers won by a 49-22 margin. All four matchups between the two programs have taken place in Lincoln, with the Huskers winning each of them. The first matchup came in 1968, when the Huskers shut out Utah by a 31-0 margin. Utah finished the 2024 season with a 5-7 record, while the Huskers finished 7-6 with a win over Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl. Las Vegas would certainly not be a bad location to view a bowl game. Husker fans always seem to show out wherever their teams play. Allegiant Stadium is certainly not a bad venue. Nebraska will open the 2025 college football season on Thursday, August 28, when the Huskers face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
