Cops beat elderly vendor for not paying 'bhatta'
An elderly vendor, who was brutally tortured by police in Saddar area, has exposed the reality of police road inspection as a bid to extort money from street vendors. A video of the conversation recorded by a citizen on mobile phone, between the pushcart puller, who sells used jeans on his cart, has gone viral on social media. In the video, the elderly man explains the reason behind the police brutality. He said, "the cops extort Rs50 to Rs100 from me daily. I didn't sell anything on th e day of the incident, so I apologised, but they started beating me instead. Their worth is just Rs50." Citizens present at the scene were also seen condemning this incident of police brutality in strong words. SSP South also remained unaware of the performance of the Saddar police. However, in a statement issued by him on Wednesday, it was mentioned that a cart puller was allegedly tortured by some police personnel during a road inspection in Saddar.

Three cops injured assuspects hurl grenade at police station
Three policemen sustained injuries when unknown suspects, riding a motorcycle, hurled a hand grenade at Preedy police station in South Zone. The grenade exploded with a loud sound and also damaged a high-roof and a car parked in the police station. Panic gripped the area after the explosion. The police called the Bomb Disposal Squad and Crime Scene Unit for necessary legal and preventive measures. Cops injured in the blast were identified as Arshad, Aamir and Riaz. Their condition is stated to be out of danger. Talking to the media people, SSP South Mahzoor Ali confirmed that a hand grenade was thrown at the Preedy police station in late hours of previous night. No organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. He further mentioned that efforts are being made to obtain CCTV footage of the incident from cameras installed in the area to track down the attackers. The attack on the police station was carried out using an RGD-5 grenade, he mentioned. Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar has taken notice of the grenade attack on Preedy police station. He ordered an investigation into the incident and said that the security in the city be made effective. Lanjar also contacted the SSP South and inquired about the details of the incident from senior police officials and CTD authorities. Lanjar was informed that an investigation is already on keeping in view different aspects. He was also informed that CCTV footage of the incident has been obtained.

Nationalists, cops clash on Sharah e Faisal

As the protestors and police came face to face, SHO Saddar and the driver of the SSP South were injured in the ensuing scuffle. The protesters attacked the police with sticks and stones. The charged protesters also damaged three police mobile vehicles with sticks. Police were trying to prevent the rally from heading towards the Red Zone area near Shahrae Faisal FTC, on which they became angry and started scuffling with the police. During this, a severe traffic jam occurred on Shahrae Faisal near Baloch Colony, causing long queues of vehicles. The rally participants refused to take the alternative route suggested by the police, while the police insisted that they would not be allowed to enter the Red Zone. During this, barricades were set up near Gora Qabristan, and the rally was diverted through Baloch Colony, Sindhi Muslim Society, and Shahrah-e-Quaideen. During this, protesters clashed with SSP South Mehroz Ali, attacking him with sticks. Police personnel managed to rescue SSP South and move him to a safe location, but SHO Saddar and SSP South's gunman, Shafiq, sustained injuries. Speaking to The Express Tribune, SSP South Mehroz Ali clarified that he did not attempt to stop the rally but only informed the protesters that entering the Red Zone was against the law.
