5 things on Netflix almost nobody has watched this year
Chloe Johnson Published August 5, 2025 11:43am Updated August 5, 2025 11:43am Link is copied Comments While we're flocking to the cinema to watch the new Superman, Fantastic Four and anxiously awaiting Freakier Friday, there's also plenty to get stuck into at home. When it comes to streaming, Netflix reigns supreme, with films regularly racking up eye-watering viewing figures. The platform recently released its 'What We Watched' report for the first six months of 2025, compiling the data to show movies like Back In Action and STRAW taking the world by storm. But there are also a lot of things almost nobody is watching, leaving them thousands of entries down the list with the lowest viewing figures recognised by Netflix (rounded to 100,000 views). Curious? Here are a handful of big titles that have flopped on Netflix so far in 2025... (Picture: REUTERS) Underworld: Evolution is an American action-horror film series for fans of an edgier Twilight, complete with vampires and werewolves. With actors like Michael Sheen, Kate Beckinsale and Bill Nighy, you would think that this one would do more numbers, but it appears that, along with the prequel and sequel, this series isn't doing so hot in the Netflix chart (Picture: Screen Gems/Kobal/Shutterstock) With horror doing great numbers all around right now, you would think this Spanish supernatural horror would follow suit and yet it's left languishing at the bottom of the table. If you're wanting to give it a try, here's the premise: a couple's son begins exhibiting disturbing behavior and playing fantasy games shortly after the family revamps and moves into a formed orphanage. It's very highly rated by both critics (87%) and fans (86%) on Rotten Tomatoes (Picture: PicHouse/Everett/Shutterstock) With a cast including famous singer Hayley Kiyoko and Modern Family's Sarah Hyland, XOXO seems like a good fit for the platform - but this film has not done the numbers other Netflix original films have done. Rotten Tomatoes critics score it at 71%, so maybe you should be one of the few to give it a chance... (Picture: Sara Swaty Roger/Netflix) Unicorn Store is the perfect feel-good movie to stick on in the background of a rainy day - and with Brie Larson at the helm (both starring and directing), it should be getting more views. But, nada. Again, it has a respectable 66% on Rotten Tomatoes, so the viewers who are finding it clearly find it worth their time (Picture: NETFLIX) Starting Hilary Swank and House of the Dragon's Olivia Cooke, The Good Mother follows a journalist who, after the murder of her estranged son, forms an unlikely alliance with his pregnant girlfriend to track down those responsible for his murder. A quick thriller to put on at the weekend, it's strange that this movie hasn't clocked more views. So what did well?... (Picture: Everett/Shutterstock) 1. Back in Action - 164,700,0002. STRAW - 102,900,0003. The Life List - 95,500,0004. Exterritorial - 87,500,0005. Havoc - 86,900,0006. The Secret Life of Pets 2 - 74,500,0007. The Electric State - 74,200,0008. Counterattack / Contraataque - 71,300,0009. Ad Vitam - 69,800,00010. Despicable Me 4 - 69,800,000 (Picture: AP) 1. Adolescence: Limited Series 144,800,0002. Squid Game: Season 2 - 117,300,0003. Squid Game: Season 3 - 71,500,0004. Zero Day: Limited Series - 61,300,0005. Missing You: Limited Series - 58,000,0006. American Murder: Gabby Petito: Season 1 - 56,100,0007. Ms. Rachel: Season 1 - 53,400,0008. Sirens: Limited Series - 53,300,0009. The Night Agent: Season 2 - 53,200,00010. Ginny & Georgia: Season 3 - 48,100,000 (Picture: AP)

Netflix's chilling new doc has cracked the top 10 already — and it's made me never want to attend a music festival again
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Live music is one of my greatest passions in life. Even as I write this article, I'm furiously refreshing my phone trying to score tickets for an upcoming concert, and my weekend plans? Seeing Sam Fender's huge homecoming show at my favorite soccer team's stadium. My summer breaks are typically filled with various music festivals as well. Yet after streaming Netflix's new documentary that chronicles the tragic events that unfolded at 2021's Astroworld festival during rapper Travis Scott's headline set, I suddenly feel a little hesitant to wade deep into a crowd of thousands of people again. The doc is called 'Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy,' and it explores the crowd crush that occurred during the Houston-based event attended by over 100,000 people. It resulted in the tragic deaths of 10 people, with 25 more hospitalized and injury numbers in the hundreds. Netflix subscribers are clearly responding to the documentary as well, with "Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy" breaking into the platform's top 10 most-watched list already. It currently ranks at No. 5 and with such a quick rise up the chart, I suspect it might dethrone Tyler Perry's "STRAW," which currently holds the No. 1 spot It's certainly not the most entertaining watch, even if the presentation is as slick as you'd expect from a Netflix original, but it's a feature-length doc that has impacted me, and if you're also a dedicated gig-goer, then I think you need to stream this right now. Like many documentaries of this ilk, 'Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy' begins with the 'happy period' as we see numerous Travis Scott fans give talking-head interviews expressing their excitement and anticipation for the upcoming concert at NRG Park in Houston, Texas. Anybody who knows what went down at Astroworld in 2021 will know what's coming next: a deadly crowd crush would lead to multiple fatalities, and I appreciate that the documentary filmmakers (who also made Netflix's excellent "Trainwreck: Woodstock '99") don't attempt to overdramatise the events. The tone is respectful throughout. I can't claim that 'Trainwreck' offers much in the way of entertainment, but it spotlights a tragedy that deserves to be remembered, and that the live music industry must learn from. The transition from people having fun at a gig to fighting for their lives is shockingly sudden, which likely mirrors the experience of attendees. The audio recordings of desperate 911 calls during the event are particularly stomach-turning and will deeply unnerve you. So while I can't claim that 'Trainwreck' offers much in the way of entertainment, it does spotlight a tragedy that deserves to be remembered, and that the live music industry must learn from. Because what happened at Astroworld can never be allowed to repeat itself. If you're a live music fan or just want to understand how the events of Astroworld unfolded, then I strongly recommend 'Trainwreck.' It's also a pretty trim watch, at around 80 minutes long, which is another strength; the doc presents the situation without unneeded bloat. In recent years, whenever I've attended a live music event (which, as noted, is extremely often), I typically find myself reflecting on Astroworld at some point, and this documentary gave me further insight into a tragedy that really did hit home with me in several ways. 'Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy' is a well-produced and very harrowing documentary, showcasing how what should have been a memorable evening for all in attendance descended into a situation where 10 people never got to return home. It's also the next chapter in what Netflix is calling the "Trainwreck anthology." The first part was the Woodstock '99 limited series, released in 2022, and there are six more documentaries on the way that will "examine some of the most disastrous events ever to blow up in mainstream media." If you're looking for something to raise your spirits after watching 'Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy,' be sure to check out our guide to everything new on Netflix in June 2025, which includes some more light-hearted TV shows and movies alongside more docs. Watch "Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy" on Netflix now New on Netflix in June 2025 Trainwreck: Woodstock '99 is my favorite Netflix show of the year Netflix just added a new dystopian drama

Tyler Perry comes under fire for using women's pain to fuel his films
Does Tyler Perry, pictured, use Black pain in his art a little too much? Image: Instagram/tylerperry Popular film director and mogul Tyler Perry faces backlash from fans and detractors for using women's pain in his movies. This is fresh off the back of his latest release, Straw, which has been the best-performing Netflix original since February. TYLER PERRY PUTS BLACK PAIN IN FOCUS A number of his films rely on the anguish of Black women. Whether they have to endure single parenthood, domestic abuse or infidelity, Perry does enjoy weaving these motifs into his work. Critics say these narratives enforce and perpetuate struggle and hardships. His depictions of Black women flourishing without having to endure are said to be too few and far between. WHAT IS TYLER PERRY'S LATEST FILM, STRAW ABOUT? His latest project stars the always sensational Taraji P. Henson alongside Janiyah Wiltkinson. As you might expect of Perry, in Straw, a struggling single mother has to do her best to keep things together when her entire life unravels in one day. Whose life spirals out of control in a single day? Janiyah Wiltkinson is doing her best to cope with a demanding life. She holds down a low-paying job while looking after her chronically ill child. On the day things get particularly demanding for her, she is confronted with an eviction, and she is then also humiliated at her job. This puts even more strain on her finances. Child Protective Services stepped in to relieve her of custody of her daughter, which is the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. WHAT TYLER PERRY'S RESPONSE HAS BEEN Critics have lamented this plot, and it has made people relook at his catalogue of cinematic offerings, with many finding fault with the actor and director. Perry remains steadfast and defends his approach vehemently. 'I say nothing to those who criticise my films for focusing on Black women's struggles, because they're right. They do. But that's reality, and I want to honour the women who raised me,' he explained in a recent interview. He maintains that these depictions draw from his experiences in witnessing his mother go through abuse. STRAW IS STILL A SUCCESS Straw is doing phenomenally around the globe on Netflix. His leading lady, Taraji P. Henson, whom Perry has worked with on many occasions, came to his defence. 'These women exist. Their stories deserve to be told,' Henson reportedly said. It is the role of art to reflect society, and the stories he tells are regular occurrences, the world over. The debate rests around his using narratives of this nature as a creative crutch and whether this is a slanted representation. WHAT'S YOUR VIEW ON TYLER PERRY'S PREFERRED METHOD OF STORYTELLING?
